"You know me....I'm laid back"

Is always said by the people who are categorically not at all, not even in the slightest bit, laid-back?

Furthermore, I have now reached a point in my life when anyone "declares" themselves to be an 'insert adjective' following the sentence "you know me" - I can be absolutely certain they are indeed the exact opposite. Some examples,

You know me...I like to be organised - said by someone living in chaos
You know me...I always look on the bright side - always constantly moans
You know me...I just get on with it - while kicking and screaming and complaining the entire time
You know me....I just go with the flow - is actually a complete and utter control freak

AIBU? 😁

Oh yes, XP who described himself as "just a happy person really, I never really get down".

Has a laundry list of anxiety, depression, abusive behaviour which he blames on the anxiety, threats of suicide, missing his weekends to have the kids because he's having another mental health episode and "can't possibly cope", etc etc....

What's common in all these is the seeming need to declare yourself. Why on earth do that, let the buggers find out in their own good time. This is why I would find OLD hell as I wouldn't know how to say the kind of person I am in such a sweeping way.

This is my mother!

’You know, I’m laid back’ or ‘I’m patient’…… my ENTIRE childhood disproves this statement!!!

Reminds me of a friend's wife who several times has said something to me like "You know me, I'm very sensitive to other people's feelings". It just sounds so pretentious, as though she's somehow superior to the rest of us, and of course, she's always whinging and seems very selfish.
It could be worse. She could describe herself as an 'empath' 🤢.

The most frequent ones surely has to be:

"The know me, I just hate drama" - loves drama, their own and involving themselves in other peoples.

If you have to declare you are something, then you are not that something

'And when you express annoyance about my total failure to contribute, do my fair share or think of anybody but myself, I'll turn it onto you by complaining that you're soooo negative, it's you bringing me down and making me hide behind my dolphin charms and Fairies instead of doing anything remotely useful'

I found this particularly with teachers. The ones who sang their own praises were idle, useless bastards. The particularly annoying thing was how many people believed them.
I also think sometimes people get hang ups in childhood. If you are told you’re bad tempered, you become a doormat. My mother was constantly claiming to be untidy. I think she spent her life compensating for this supposed inadequacy.
It obviously works in reverse for some people who somehow think they don’t need to try.
