Delivery driver just came over full of apologies as he delivered our parcel to the wrong house. He went back immediately and took it from them. They're about 20 doors up.

The woman had physically signed his pad with our name from the parcel label, took it in and opened it up.

Delivery driver said she was angry when he asked for it back but did give it over saying everything was in it still.

Not really thrilled at receiving my baby's first christmas gifts after they've been went through by someone and not entirely chuffed that she's basically committed fraud. I'd like to ask her why she did it but I know in reality that's going to get me nowhere is it?

Don't do it, it's not worth it, you don't know what kind of person she is. I had a parcel delivered to the wrong house once, I had the photo of where it was left with a distinctive door and doormat, I rang the delivery company and they managed to track the road from their delivery drivers tracking device. I found the road and then found the house based on the picture, knocked on the door and said I think you have my parcel. She said she didn't have it and slammed the door in my face. I knocked again and showed her the picture I had on the app of her front door and doormat, she literally yelled in my face that she didn't have my f***g parcel and slammed the door again. I walked home in tears with no parcel. I told the company what happened and they sent a replacement. 2 days later the original was chucked on my driveway, torn open. She'd obviously opened it and realised it was nothing exciting or valuable (bed linen!) And tossed it onto my drive. It was a horrible experience.

SavingKitten · 17/11/2022 11:14

It’s annoying but you got the parcel back, just move on with your day.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 17/11/2022 11:20

I'd find a way to thank the delivery driver for his diligence in correcting his mistake.

Your neighbour is a CF. Don't get too hung up on her opening your baby's first Christmas presents. All's well that ended well.

You're right, I imagine she's not a person I really want to meet!

Very true. Back to cleaning the blinds 😄

Aw he was lovely. I wasn't at all mad at him, I'd hate his job. I told him not to worry and gave him a jaffa cake (I was scoffing a box when I opened the door).

She probably opened it without checking the name, I never check the name on my parcel. Bit of a leap to accuse her of fraud

Did you miss the bit where she signed for it with the OP's name? How can that have been a mistake?

Schlaar · 17/11/2022 11:45

I would probably just sign for a parcel and open it without checking. That’s understandable. But the fact she got angry when asked to return it suggests she was planning to steal it. I wouldn’t confront her though, it’s never wise to confront a criminal!

Have you ever tried to sign a name on those things? At best you get an incomprehensible squiggle

Homemadearmy · 17/11/2022 11:49

Our delivery drivers are still signing themselves, I haven't signed for anything since covid.

Duttercup · 17/11/2022 11:50

Whilst I take your point to an extent, it is a bit dramatic to invoke your baby's first Christmas. She didn't unwrap them on Christmas morning.

She either wasn't paying attention or she's a thief.

Either way, all's well that ends well.

mrsbitaly · 17/11/2022 11:54

To be honest when I get a delivery particularly this time of the year where i am expecting several parcels I don't check the name I would have just signed it and opened it. Maybe it wasn't done fraudulently just a simple error?

maddy68 · 17/11/2022 11:55

I have done this a few times. Parcel gets delivered I sign for it and open it. I don't wear my readers to open the door. I have no idea what the label says.

I'm certain there was no bad motive for doing this

SpinningFloppa · 17/11/2022 11:58

Did she sign your name or did she sign the pad that had your name on it? It doesn’t sound like she actually signed the ops name just a pad with her name written on it, she probably just wasn’t paying attention tbh, you don’t actually know she done any of that Or that she was a very, maybe the delivery guy just told you she was looking for sympathy as he was worried about getting into trouble?

Whataretheodds · 17/11/2022 12:02

With most delivery companies you can now say if there's a neighbour you don't want them to deliver to. Worth updating!

I read that but I don't know how she would know it was signed as the OPs name. Just that it had been signed for they are usually electronic and disappear once they have entered it

OnlyFannys · 17/11/2022 16:14

Valeriekat · 17/11/2022 16:06

She signed the OPs name! Did you read the post?

I find it hard to believe that she didnt just sign it without even looking properly. It sounds more like the delivery driver has hammed this up a bit to look like it wasnt his fault or the op is exaggerating (based the dramatics about "babies first Christmas" mostly)

Valeriekat · 17/11/2022 16:21

Perhaps but wouldnt the delivery driver have a copy?

Roundandnour · 17/11/2022 16:25

I’ve done it before. Several packages delivered. Opened parcels and one wasn’t anything I ordered. Checked the label and oops.

My neighbour and other now think I’m a thief, and if something comes here now other neighbours or even their mates come and collect straight away.

Thats on the rare times I bother taking them in anyway. And cannot remember the last time I signed for a package tbh.

OnlyFannys · 17/11/2022 16:42

Valeriekat · 17/11/2022 16:21

Whenever I've signed my name on those things it comes out as a line or squiggle so doubt it would show much

Shaaameless · 17/11/2022 16:47

The little shit was angry because she’d been caught thieving. You know it, the delivery bloke knows it, & so does everyone on MN now 😆.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 17/11/2022 16:51

The delivery drivers haven't asked for signatures post covid around here and pre covid it was always just a random squiggle as the screens are crap.

I don't know who's lying about the neighbour signing OPs name but it's bollocks isn't it

Wifflywafflywoo · 17/11/2022 20:00

Spoken to the lady... She came around to ask me if I'd be doing anything further about what had happened and apologised saying she knows it was wrong and doesn't know why she did it 🤷

Also for those saying I'm exaggerating and invoking things. I saved bloody hard for my baby's gifts, getting them in a ripped open, soggy parcel with some of the individual packets also ripped into wasn't really ideal. I wouldn't want to receive anything this way.

I'm pleased it's all sorted, we live on an estate that interacts quite a lot, especially in the summer when people do charity bake sales etc. so I imagine I'll bump into her again at some point.
