If you buy something from a retailer for £15 one day and the next day theyre selling it for £9, would you be pissed? This sort of thing has happened more than once and it feels illegal somehow

I dont really believe its illegal

I'm always annoyed when this happens, even if it's clothes in HM and it's two months later. I know thy clothes won't always be available and will probably be reduced eventually, but I still get irritated Grin

Coconutcream123 · 14/11/2022 20:00

Contact them, they might refund you the difference or give you a voucher

WireSkills · 14/11/2022 20:02

That's why I like John Lewis. They'll give you a refund if this happens.

Good idea but be careful- some stores have individual barcodes, which can tell you when something was purchased

This is such a good idea if it wofks

Pasc611 · 14/11/2022 20:07

No, I wouldn't be pissed. It's not worth getting drunk over.

Buy another one at £9 and then take it back with the receipt for refund of £15.

I've done that a few times! We once bought

JudgeJ · 14/11/2022 20:11

whhoops, posted too soon.

We once bought something for a grandchild's birthday which was reduced before the big day, we went in with the original in a store bag, bought another at the reduced price, swapped the receipts and returned one of them.

Brilliant !!!!!!!

Beneficialchampion2 · 14/11/2022 20:12

I normally complain if this happens, and 9/10 they've credited the difference. If they don't I say I'll take the product back and repurchase it, and then they credit the difference anyway.

This- alot of shops have this now so I wouldn’t bother anymore.

Do people do this for £6? My time is worth more than that

Irritating isn't it !!!

bingotime · 14/11/2022 20:22

@pocketvenuss

£6 would be worth my time but then I'm a carer to my sen children and only get £67 a week carers allowance to do that.......

Zilla1 · 14/11/2022 20:24

If the retailer increased the price then came round to your house and asked for the difference in cash, would you happily pay up or is it only one way price changes that annoy you?

Herejustforthisone · 14/11/2022 20:29

eelieza · 14/11/2022 19:26

Do you set fire to your money for fun?

Do you not see how mental it is that you believe retailers shouldn’t be allowed to reduce the prices of items, purely because you had shit timing for a purchase?

Anyway, I like the genius poster’s idea of buying a cheap one and returning it on the old receipt.

Glitteratitar · 14/11/2022 20:35

Be careful about buying a new item and returning it with the old receipt. Some stores have individual barcodes for every item so it will flag if the tag doesn’t match the receipt. I know Next and M&S have this system in place.

Bluekerfuffle · 14/11/2022 20:35

Yes, I find it annoying and think they’re greedy bastards for selling it at the higher price when they can obviously still make a profit at the lower price. (Yes, I know this is what people do and it’s not illegal, but it makes me feel better having a grumble to myself).

Bogglebrain · 14/11/2022 21:01

It’s very annoying! I have been known to send online orders back (post office is within walking distance so not a hassle) and repurchase at the cheaper price. I did phone a retailer once and they honoured the discount. You’ve got nothing to lose.

VeronicaFranklin · 14/11/2022 21:17

So in this instance you can take it back with your receipt and get a refund and then buy it again.

Ocampa · 14/11/2022 21:35

I once brought back jeans to H&M and then bought the same jeans 5 minutes later for half price. I did use a different cashier though.

Moby1canobi · 14/11/2022 21:41

😄 at all the posters saying they wouldn't be annoyed. They'd be delighted to have paid more than they needed to because they understand capitalism.

allboysherebutme · 14/11/2022 22:05

Buy them again and take them back with the first receipt. X

elephantseal · 14/11/2022 22:17

It's a complete PITA with M&S - I tried to return some beauty products I had been given but I didn't like. I was happy to buy stuff to replace the products, but they would not refund anything as they don't refund beauty products without a receipt!! Even when they're sealed. Gahhhhh.

LDA123 · 15/11/2022 05:24

I always rebuy the item when this happens - normally online - and then send back the new item with the original receipt. Works a treat!

I just make sure I keep all the original packaging, packing slips etc.

I imagine I’ll be doing this a lot after Christmas (on the bigger stuff)! It feels quite satisfying especially as money is tight right now.

A bit off a faff but worth it, especially if free delivery and free returns.
