To be in bed by 6 pm some nights

Threehotwaterbottles · 14/11/2022 17:53

Typing this lay down in bed.
I have a 4 year old and alternate bedtimes with Dh, Dd goes to bed at 7 pm in winter.
On my nights, I’ve started going up to bed at around 6 just to get a lie down and break before Dd comes up for teeth, pjs, stories etc at 7. She falls asleep and then I often stay there.
I’m just so tired and look forward to lying down, is this weird, should I have more energy?

I often watch tv on my phone or go on my phone, so I don’t fall asleep until late, I just like the lying down aspect 🙈😅

Not weird at all.

Mine aren't small and are teens and I go to bed as soon as they are home and fed dinner.

Dogsgottabone · 14/11/2022 17:57

Caveat they don't get home till 7ish!

NoWeaponsOnTheTable · 14/11/2022 17:57

I do this sometimes usually at least once a month.
I get knackered when my period is due, my 6 yo goes to bed at 8pm but sometimes we go up at 7pm and I'll lie and read but often just conk out.
If it was every night I'd be worried!

Caiti19 · 14/11/2022 17:59

On the contrary, I think it's very wise.

Threehotwaterbottles · 14/11/2022 18:03

@NoWeaponsOnTheTable Its every other night at the moment 😬never in summer…she goes to bed later or we’re in the garden etc. It’s just warm, cosy and I’m tired
I can’t understand how people can go to yoga, the gym etc in the winter…I should probably make better use of my time.
If it’s not my bedtime with Dd, I basically do the same but downstairs on the sofa-tv or a book

I would love to do this. I did it occasionally pre-kids. Can't wait to be able to do it again.

lobsterkiller · 14/11/2022 18:06

I don't even have kids and do this! Not as early as 6 though, but I've been known to be in bed for 7pm ready to sleep after a tough day.

IntrovertedPenguin · 14/11/2022 18:07

I do this from 7pm in the winter. I love it it's so cozy.

Dogsgottabone · 14/11/2022 18:10

Oh I do it in the summer too. Nothing nicer than going up to bed and closing the blinds and sleeping a warm summer smelling sleep when you know everyone else is still awake. That way you can make the most of the mornings.

bookish83 · 14/11/2022 18:10

I do this a lot. Have very little energy with work and a toddler

How old are you OP?

Singleandproud · 14/11/2022 18:13

I do this but I live in a flat and don't have a partner. I don't really see the point in sitting in the living room to watch TV when I could sit in my bedroom next door and do the same. PJs on in our house after dinner if we aren't going out, especially in the winter

thelobsterquadrille · 14/11/2022 18:13

How does your DH feel about you disappearing off to bed like that? Do you not want to spend time together?

Isitsixoclockalready · 14/11/2022 18:16

If I have an early start then I'm often in bed by 7.30pm. Love it.

CheapWine · 14/11/2022 18:18

I’m the same, can’t believe it’s only quarter past six, feels like 10pm!

when DC were little, I would go up with them, by the time they were settled I never came back downstairs again! DH works away, so there was nothing to stop up for.

these days, it saves energy too 😁

jocktamsonsbairn · 14/11/2022 18:20

I was working from home this afternoon- got in at 2.30, was asleep before 3. Just woken up. I do t have young dc but am just wiped out every day. Could go to bed right now and sleep all night.

ButterflyBiscuit · 14/11/2022 18:21

Check time
lying in bed while child 1 out at activity with DH

Yup. I'm exhausted.

Craigava · 14/11/2022 18:21

What does your DH think? I'd be disappointed if my partner was watching tv on their phone in another room rather than spending time with me watching tv, or at least being in the same room. Occasionally maybe, but this sounds like a regular occurrence.

ButterflyBiscuit · 14/11/2022 18:22

Must admit I'd love a wfh job I could sleep thru...

Or even just a wfh job!!

SeaToSki · 14/11/2022 18:23

Are you up early and feeling refreshed and full of energy? If so then sounds fine. If you are still tired in the morning then I would suggest a check up with your thryroid, iron, ferritin, b12 and vit d levels all tested

Byfleet · 14/11/2022 18:24

I used to do this often when DC were little.

I used to worry that I would be falling asleep at 6pm for the rest of my life, like I had become an elderly women in my 30s. But, little by little I regained my energy as DC grew older and now I have plenty of energy for exercise, going out after work etc.

This is just a phase in your life. It will change.

Hazydayss · 14/11/2022 18:25

On my work days am usually exhausted by 6pm. Currently sat in bed while dh is getting the little one to bed. I love nothing more than getting in bed when little one goes early.

JennyForeigner · 14/11/2022 18:26

Honestly I do the same thing. Three very young children. I'm either in bed the moment our three year old closes his eyes, or slightly before him leaving the house and childwrangling to my husband.

Lots of broken nights, back pain and the constant day time focus. You get wiped out.

Mulhollandmagoo · 14/11/2022 18:29

When it's dark and cold in winter I feel really tired earlier, it's rare we are still downstairs after 9pm. Tonight will be early, I just need to wait for my daughter's bedtime at 7 🤣
