To be in bed by 6 pm some nights

Typing this lay down in bed.
I have a 4 year old and alternate bedtimes with Dh, Dd goes to bed at 7 pm in winter.
On my nights, I’ve started going up to bed at around 6 just to get a lie down and break before Dd comes up for teeth, pjs, stories etc at 7. She falls asleep and then I often stay there.
I’m just so tired and look forward to lying down, is this weird, should I have more energy?

@thelobsterquadrille We see each other before as he’s home for dinner etc and I don’t do it every night, but does feel more often at the moment. I think he’s probably quite happy with the tv to himself and what he wants to watch 😅

not at all unreasonable. I am now in my bed after work, conducting all my business from the comfort of my super king size bed. Like Marie Antoinette with some Reece's peanut butter pats and some cheesy puff balls. Bed is where it's at these days!

UneFoisAuChalet · 14/11/2022 18:45

Oh god no! There’s nothing wrong with that!

After I had Covid, for about a month, I was getting into bed pretty much after the school run. I’d get in, sort out a few things, take a shower and get into bed. DH was doing the cooking, tidying and bedtimes. I concentrated on taking the kids to school, work and collecting them. Bare minimum.

However, once recovered, I’ve decided to get myself up to bed earlier, particularly when it’s dark by half four. Once supper is done and tidied, maybe a wash on, I’m in bed. It’s bliss. I get out to make sure the kids are sorted but the youngest is ten so apart from making sure their actually in bed, I have very little to do. It’s revolutionary OP. I read, I watch tv, I scroll AIBU. By half nine, ten, I’m fast asleep.

@SeaToSki Usually still quite tired as I don’t fall asleep until late…it just seems that’s the only time I get to myself and to be quiet without answering to anyone

@UneFoisAuChalet Yes, very similar 🤣
I make sure dinner is done, washed up, reasonably tidy downstairs then into bed

I think it’s unusual to be fair. I get we all feel knackered sometimes (I’m counting the days until retirement believe me!), but heading off to bed at 6pm each night is pretty extreme.

What does your DH think? I'd be disappointed if my partner was watching tv on their phone in another room rather than spending time with me watching tv, or at least being in the same room. Occasionally maybe, but this sounds like a regular occurrence.

OP should be putting herself first here, not her partner! No wonder mums are so overwhelmed and stressed these days...too many people to look after. It's not the 60s.

Igmum · 14/11/2022 18:50

Sounds absolutely lovely OP. YADNBU as long as I can do it too

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/11/2022 18:54

I find it pretty odd to be honest, but I'm clearly in a minority so you needn't worry what I think!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/11/2022 18:55

You'd only be slumped on the sofa otherwise, so might as well be comfortable whilst you're resting.

I've stayed before now in an effort to appear 'up', but all it's done has made me uncomfortable and antsy until I've gone upstairs instead. Does you good to chill in darkened room - less 'input' or stimulation.

Can I suggest that you try a bath with the lights off once your DD is asleep? That's even better for decompression.

I get into bed when my daughter goes to bed and just watch tv/read etc. Quite often we will both go up early and get into my bed for an hour before she goes to sleep. We like hanging out together in bed and just watching tv or messing around on our devices. I'm always in bed before 9pm.

jolies · 14/11/2022 19:00

I do very similar, just me and DS through the week as DP works away. I give him his bottle at half 6 then get him to sleep and then retreat into my bedroom for the night from around 7 with my big hot water bottle and some snacks. I love it, especially in winter.

Gandalfsthong · 14/11/2022 19:01

Also 44, kids are 8 and 10, work full time and generally do most house and garden chores as husband works long hours, in the winter my energy levels feel much lower. After I’ve fed the kids, tidied, got bags ready for school and walked the dogs I’m desperate to get into bed!!!

Whydidimarryhim · 14/11/2022 19:12

Hi op. - I’d just get my thyroid checked and vitamin D as lack of these can make you tired. Also iron levels. Life is tiring though.
Youve all actually made me feel better. I’m 58 work part time with a teenager. I’m tired!!!

stopbeeping · 14/11/2022 19:13

We get into bed once we have put them to bed at 7
We have three kids
