To leave 2 under 2 in the house while I walk to get dc no 3 from childminder 5 doors down the road

Quick pulse - as the title says I have 2 under 2 at home with me now. Dc No 1 is school age and gets picked up by the childminder who lives 5 doors from us.

Should I pack up the 2 babies in a pushchair to walk 2 mins up the road to get dc 1 or risk it and leave them in the bouncer while I run up the road to get dc no 3?

WHO is DC 3? How old are they?

Not that it makes any difference....to what you ought to do.

Oh FGS.

Imagine worst case events...you getting run over on the pavement, DCs choking, falling down the stairs, and more.

If anything happened your kids would probably be taken away from you as this is neglect.

What a silly post

children wouldn’t be removed, do you even know how high the threshold is for removal?

guidedbythelightt · 14/11/2022 16:55

Are you mad? I can't believe you even had to ask this.

I'd phone and say send DC1 home now and then stand at the front door and watch them

This is what we did in almost exactly the same situation. In fact I didn't look as she rang to say, "he's coming now," and then he would knock on the door. Amazingly a 5 year survived for 20 seconds on their own.

Peanutbuttermonster · 14/11/2022 16:56

If you can't watch your child walk from door to door, as others have suggested, you'll have to take them with you. I have a 22 month age gap between my two and even now, at aged 1 and 3, I wouldn't trust the big one with the little one, and that's putting aside any other dangers... I know that time-wise it's really not much different to popping to the loo, but you can still hear and keep the door open when you do that.

She couldn’t have made it any clearer.

MakeMineADigestive · 14/11/2022 16:56

@Floatyflip- do you?

If there was a fire and a child died- would that be enough?
Or choked?

Do share your wisdom

Send the 5 year old to walk down. When I was 7 (admittedly a bit old) I walked up the same street to my piano teacher's house alone. I would not leave the babies alone at home even for just in theory 3 minutes and I am a fairly relaxed mother whose twins were the youngest and only chidlren in that year to walk home - up in essence one street - when they were older.

MetellaInHortoEst · 14/11/2022 16:56

She couldn’t have made it any clearer.

No it's not clear.

she talks about DC1 with the childminder.

Then she talks about DC3.

She ought to say collect DC1 if that's what she means.

converseandjeans · 14/11/2022 16:58

How old is DC1? If you can see the CM house from your front door and it's the same side of the street, rather let DC1 walk home alone while you watch.

This 👆🏻

Dalekjastninerels · 14/11/2022 16:59

I would take them with you; they are very little and won't be able to help themselves if things go wrong at home. If the bouncer broke etc etc

You could also be run over and end up in hospital. If you end up unconscious there could be two babies alone for hours

So many things could go wrong.

Mimsy123 · 14/11/2022 16:59

I’m wouldn’t even consider leaving them at home.

guidedbythelightt · 14/11/2022 16:59

Having read previous posts by the OP I am actually less surprised at this question than I was before.

ButterCrackers · 14/11/2022 16:59

Be pleased that it’s just a few minutes walk with your under 2year olds. Other people have long journeys by foot or public transport to collect their kids. Just take your kids with you to collect your child at the minder.

creamwitheverything · 14/11/2022 16:59

Shakes her head and cannot honestly believe someone would ask this..

LoraOldSpot · 14/11/2022 16:59

Omg of course you take them with you!

Mimsy123 · 14/11/2022 16:59
  • I wouldn’t even consider…
b8tes7sw · 14/11/2022 17:00

Is there a line of sight, could you wait at the door if you can see the oldest coming? Otherwise I wouldn't leave 2 babes alone.

RFPO77 · 14/11/2022 17:01

I'd actually leave them and do it, you'll be in sight of the house at all times, just get CM to meet you at the door, you'll be a minute!

AcrossthePond55 · 14/11/2022 17:02

I walked home from school at age 5, albeit small town USA, 2 (long) blocks with no streets to cross, no business areas, AND in the early 60s. A child these days should surely be able to manage 5 doors down unless it's a majorcity street where they might get lost to view in pedestrian traffic or there were roads to cross.

Can't believe OP is so freaked about her DS1 walking 5 houses yet blasé about two 2 years old being left alone in the house!

Crumpleton · 14/11/2022 17:03

Maybe not your best choices.

Who knows you could get way laid chatting to a neighbour.

NoGoodUsernamee · 14/11/2022 17:05

I have 3 under 5 & understand the frustration of having to get them all ready to pop to the corner shop for milk or something. I’ve never left them of course but I wouldn’t forgive myself if something did happen, although probably unlikely. I agree surely call the childminder and then stand on the street outside your house to watch DC1 walk down? Don’t really understand the dramatic reactions though, it’s 5 doors not 5 streets!

Dreamwhisper · 14/11/2022 17:06

I'm confused about why your DC is at the childminder if you have 2 babies at home?

No you can't leave them but I'd be getting onesies and throwing on sliders - if they're not going far it shouldn't take that much effort to get them ready to walk down the street

mam0918 · 14/11/2022 17:06

So you would leave a baby and a toddler home alone before suggesting a school age child could walk the distance of 5 houses... can you see how batshit that is?

As others have said if its 5 house you should be able to stand at the door and see him.
