To be sad at how Charles The King looks compared to how Charles the Prince looked?

Before anyone feels the need to point it out, yes I know he has just lost his parents in quick succession and got dropped into a role of high stress and responsibility. I get that it will affect him.

But I saddens me so much that he looks so much more careworn in such a small space of time. It struck me today when I saw the photos of him, he seems so much more stern, almost angry. I cant really describe it but in years past there was a kindness or empathy or something in his face at such events and that seems to have gone. He looks so so much older than he did just 6 months ago. I feel for him and his family and I say this as a republican, but also as a human being.

There are soooo many people in the world to feel so sorry for that you feel the need to post it online. Don’t break your heart about an incredibly privileged man having to sometimes do things. He won’t waste his sympathy on you in your lowest moments.

Testina · 13/11/2022 22:28

Yeah, that.

MightyAtlantic · 13/11/2022 22:30

He looks the same to me. Confused

DornChorus · 13/11/2022 22:32

I'm sure he'll be grand.

knittingaddict · 13/11/2022 22:32

You're taking all this from a few photos? That 9seems a bit of a reach.

To me it’s odd enough that a republican spends so long studying pictures of royals and assigning emotions to them.

AnApparitionQuipped · 13/11/2022 22:33

I thought he looked emotional today - I imagine he was thinking of his mum. He might be over-privileged and out of touch, but he is still a man who lost his mum less than three months ago.

Nimblesandbimbles · 13/11/2022 22:34

I think he’s just getting on a bit & he’s more visible now as King.

This. This x a billion. Get a grip OP.

Berlinlover · 13/11/2022 22:35

I actually think he looks happier.

hamstersarse · 13/11/2022 22:36

I think he’s always been on the miserable side, cantankerous even.

I wouldn’t worry op

I agree. And more dignified. But today must have been quite an emotional occasion for him.

catsonahottinroof · 13/11/2022 22:41

I actually think he looks completely different in the last few photos I've seen of him - at one point I thought they must be using a body double - different hair, face, and posture. It could be as you say, the stress and maybe he has had some kind of appearance makeover for his new role.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/11/2022 22:42

Oh FFS....I didnt study anything. I was on the BBC news app and thought "Wow, he looks so different." I read the article, saw the other pictures and felt empathy for a fellow human being who has been through an awful lot in the last couple of years and how it showed in his face.

I was just saddened by it, just as I would be if he were my neighbour or a friend.

I am about as low as a person can be at the moment thanks to various issues out of my control and yet I can still manage to not be a dick. Maybe some of you should try it.

I think you'd get better responses if you posted in the Royal Family topic

I am glad I am not the only one struck by the difference. He almost looks like his own older brother if you know what I mean!

I thought he looked sad, depressed and exhausted. As we all would x

PurpleButterflyWings · 13/11/2022 22:46

I am a Royalist, and always have been, but I disagree @PyongyangKipperbang He looks the same as he looked 3-4 months ago, before his mother died. Yes, he has had to do a lot of extra stuff - the funeral was tiresome for him, and ANNE, but he is fine! He'll live! Probably another 20 years!

But he’s not your neighbour or friend. It’s not a comparable situation. You could write to him detailing how awfully terribly difficult things have been for you recently and send him a picture of you at your absolute lowest and (if it even made it to him) his heart wouldn’t be bleeding for you. He wouldn’t feel saddened. He wouldn’t care. So don’t waste your sympathy on assigning emotions to him and making yourself sad about it.

Kanaloa · 13/11/2022 22:48

But yes, maybe the royal family board? People on there obviously like the royals so would be happy to sympathise with him.

tickticksnooze · 13/11/2022 22:49

He hardly got "dropped into" the role he has been prepared for his entire very long life.

SuperCamp · 13/11/2022 22:53

I am really glad I am not starting a really busy job aged 73 when most people have been retired for 7 years already.

CruCru · 13/11/2022 22:53

He’s 73. As my parents got older, there were times when they suddenly looked much older - it wasn’t linear.

Remembrance Sunday isn’t a smiley occasion - and the King would have made an effort to be extra solemn.

Mamai90 · 13/11/2022 22:55

There are so many millions more people deserving of sympathy rather than the King. He's one of the most privileged people on the planet. Yes, he's lost his parents but unfortunately nearly all of us mere mortals have to go through the same thing one day or another.

Crappydoo · 13/11/2022 22:56
