Peter Kay tickets

jamdonut · 13/11/2022 08:58

Been reading about the thousands and thousands of people snapping up Peter Kay tickets, or , finding it difficult to get hold of them….
But in the same breath , everyone’s complaining about the “cost of living” , that they haven’t got the money for their energy bills/ mortgages/ food , etc, etc, but - Peter Kay tickets? - no problem, money found!
How does that work?
( I haven’t been trying to get tickets, by the way, much as I like him).

If budgets are that tight, where do you suddenly find the money ?

I don't know anyone in real life who is struggling so much that they can't afford a £40 ticket for something that is happening in 2023 or 2024.

I was going to say this. Everyone around me is buying takeaways, alcohol, holidays, clothes, Xmas presents etc. I don't know of anyone struggling yet.

BigChesterDraws · 13/11/2022 14:00

News flash! Not everyone is struggling.

Cheeseandlobster · 13/11/2022 14:01

GiltEdges · 13/11/2022 09:00

I mean, the logical assumption is that the people buying Peter Kay tickets are not exactly the same people who are barely keeping their heads above water due to the CoL crisis. Do you have any evidence to the contrary? Given there are millions of people in the UK, it’s not that hard to fathom. Mind your own business.

This. Is it really so hard to fathom that not everyone is struggling. I have seen similar posts about people enjoying holidays on Facebook. It's very short sighted to assume everyone is the same

glamourousindierockandroll · 13/11/2022 14:02

My sister and I bought them for our parents as a Christmas present. It is November after all.

Abraxan · 13/11/2022 14:02

TeachesOfPeaches · 13/11/2022 09:00

Peter Kay purposely kept the prices very low so they're only £30 / £40 with some dates 3 years away.

That's was only the starting prices.

So the tier 2 tickets at our local arena were about £44 iirr.
First tier were about £57. Floor tickets were in the 80s. VIP started from £150 I think.

I had tickets for the cancelled tour some 12 years back. I can't remember how much they cost me,

Didn't manage to get tickets this time.

Abraxan · 13/11/2022 14:03

You also have to remember that not everyone is struggling at the moment. Lots are, yes, and some are in real difficulties. But there are still a lot of people fairly comfortable.

kitcat15 · 13/11/2022 14:03

They were about 35 quid weren’t they? That’s reasonable for many …..Not everyone is on the bones of their arse….. I was in the Glastonbury ticket sale last week….it was brutal….. no dip in numbers trying for them …..and they have gone up 50 quid to 340

redbigbananafeet · 13/11/2022 14:04

Some people have more money than other people.

MichaelFabricantWig · 13/11/2022 14:04

Kez200 · 13/11/2022 13:28

What's the UK population - well in excess of 60 million?

There will be a tiny handful of those that have money to spend on a night out. Many have waited 12 years to see him after the refund on the tour he cancelled. They have months to save this money. Some would probably sit in the cold and dark for a month if it meant they could go.

It's choices and realising not everyone is in the exact same boat whilst also realising there are millions out there that, despite Peter Kay selling out, would have loved to have gone but are making daily choices between food and heating.

I don’t think there is only a “tiny handful “ of people who can still afford a night out.

Coasterfan · 13/11/2022 14:05

Not everyone is struggling, plenty of people still have money for events. We went to Alton Towers for the fireworks last weekend, tickets were £50 each, all three days were a sell out, 25,000 people a day I believe. The theme parks and theme park hotels have been busy all year.

Me too……I personally don’t know anyone who is struggling….li mean, we are all a bit poorer than we were..but everyone still having holidays and going out

This is one of the stupidest threads I've ever seen on MN.

TheTeddyBears · 13/11/2022 14:08

Not everyone is on the breadline though. Plenty of folk are but plenty can still afford Peter Kay tickets and more.

sophiasnail · 13/11/2022 14:18

We aren't struggling, but have to be careful with money. I managed to get 3 £41 tickets (for 2025!) which will be a treat for us, and part of my Mum's Christmas present.

Well done! ….I got a Glastonbury ticket…but failed miserably to get Peter Kay tickets

Singleandproud · 13/11/2022 14:26

But theatre ticker football tickets ec are all aimilar price or more expensive.

I buy tickets as presents, something that doesnt take up space and is something to look forward to.

In the Spring DD and I are going to Twickenham to watch a womens Rugby match, we're spening a long weekend and doing other touristy things whist there. What we aren't doing is spending £££ and going abroad. The Twickenham tickets are part of DDs Christmas present.

Next week we're going to see the Nutcracker with my mum and having a meal out - I bought those tickets for my mums birthday as she's never seen it although always wanted to.

I'm at the upper end of low income, with proper planning I can still afford treats as I don't waste money on other things.

Againstmachine · 13/11/2022 14:36

Except that's only partially true, the 35 quid tickets were the worst in venue and at an arena can be really bad, and others were a lot more. His stating he was keeping was keeping them at 2010 levels when 35 was expensive for a comedian 12 years ago.

Of course it's all supply and demand if people pay it they will charge which is fair enough people make their chpices

Againstmachine · 13/11/2022 14:38

@CliffordMystery
I think £40 is expensive for a ticket to see a comedian actually. I see loads of comedians (who are a lot better than Peter Kay) and the tickets are about half that. I don’t think £80 for two people to see Peter Kay in presumably a stadium is exactly a bargain!

Agreed it is expensive and I would never see a comedian in an arena, they are terrible for watching comedy.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 13/11/2022 14:40

Some people are on the brink and have had to cut back on all the fun things, like holidays and big nights out - this might be their only ‘do’ all year. Hence the scramble.

JohnsShirt · 13/11/2022 14:41

Lots of other acts have cheap tickets too, Harry Styles started at £67, I just paid £32 for Pet Shop Boys next year and saw George Ezra in June for £16.50.
I haven't got PK tickets, not my thing, but I've seen a lot this year and will be next year, it's what I choose to spend my money on, instead of pretty much anything else, plus DD is grown up and financially independent.

Firefly86 · 13/11/2022 14:43

Is he really that popular?
Stunned at the hype over him.

CherryLongIsland · 13/11/2022 14:45

I imagine people spending on tickets aren't worried about living expenses 🤷‍♀️

People are still spending on entertainment. We've been on a city break this weekend, every pub, bar and restaurant was packed. We struggled to get walk in tables to eat. Students, families, couples, football fans, stag and hen parties, couples, birthday parties and baby showers all spending on food, drink as well as loads of shoppers.

RewildingAmbridge · 13/11/2022 15:01

Didn't get PK tickets, but we're seeing Stewart Lee next year about £30 a ticket, small venue 4th row. Saw Dave Gorman at the same theatre recently, Richard Herring RHLSTP, Romesh Ranganathan before that. we've taken DS to stick man and Tiger who came to tea this year so far. NHM science museum in a couple of weeks. I've been to a series of lectures at the local university.
We go to the theatre, gigs, exhibitions etc quite frequently. We do live in an area not far from London with two really good theatres so that makes it cheaper than going into the west end.
We're comfortable, not putting the heating on as much frankly not because we're on the bones of our arse but because I begrudge giving huge MNCs money they think I can't choose not to. We don't really get takeaways and don't eat out often, we prioritise events etc, but I'm not going to pretend I'm skint.

It's not expensive for someone at the top of the tree like him who everyone wants to see.
Supply and demand also. He won't be touring and making money all his life.

Shows cost alot to put on too

It's the journey and the parking that would put me off more. Trying to find where to park lol. Trying to find a loo on the way. Trying to get off the car park at the end of the evening.

Looking forward to the DVD though.
