AIBU to wonder why do my neighbours only go out when I go out?

My neighbours hardly ever leave the house. They have 2 cars, which are always parked outside. I know this because my living room window faces their drive. However, I have noticed that their cars are only ever gone when I've been out and about in my car, which these days is not very often, as I don't go out that much. Initially I thought it was just a coincidence, but it seems to happen all the time, without fail. If I've been out, the cars are gone. I come home and shortly after, they come back home too. It's starting to creep me out slightly.

Has anyone else encountered something like this?

Have you ever helped them out by towing the car, and inadvertently left the rope attached?

Fourcandleforkhandle · 15/11/2022 06:05

If I was you OP I would go out in my Car several times (7 or 8 times maybe) just to see if my Neighbors go out that many times too. And perhaps on 2 or 3 consecutive days do this. If they Car is not there everytime then they are definitely following you.

Looking for tracking devices on car guide.

I'm for driving away and pulling in around the corner. Hanging around and going back in ten mins. If they come back after you be ready to jump back in the car and go out again.

But why would they track her with a device and also follow her? Surely you'd do one or the other.

Whatifitallgoesright · 15/11/2022 09:53

They've put the tracker on so they can follow her. So they're not right behind her because maybe they are crap followers. This is why she has to park around the corner. Then if they go past her she then starts following them.

Why are you so obsessed with your neighbours? How do you know if they go out or not when you're not there? Bizarre.

Have CCTV camera set up so they can review their neighbour's activities?

Surely it must be a coincidence?
What possible reason could your neighbours have to be following you?

ChristmasisRuined · 15/11/2022 10:50

@CrystalCoco Uncalled for. OP has every right to simply ask advice. To call her unhinged is bang out of order. Reported

Rayna37 · 15/11/2022 10:54

If it's NOT a complete coincidence could it be a parking issue? Where do you normally park, and could it any way make it tricky for them to get off their drive?! (Straws, clutching)?

ButterCrackers · 15/11/2022 10:57

Could just be similar habits - thinking what to get for tea, school times, work, going to the post office, local places with set opening hours.

I would do this too, just to clarify in my mind if it was definitely happening or if it was just a coincidence.

What an odd post!

How do you know they don't go out when you are at home? Surely you don't keep such close tabs on them that you know?

Maybe one of the following:

  • If they have taken one of their two cars out
  • If someone has borrowed one of their cars (i often do this)
  • If they are out having a walk somewhere
  • If someone else has picked them up.
  • My Dad before be became too elderly/ill still had his car and would very occasionally drive it 'round the block' because he wasn't ready to give up his car. He certainly wasn't following his neighbours or nothing sinister at all!
AryaStarkWolf · 15/11/2022 11:02

Yeah definitely a coincidence, there's literally no logical reason for them to do that

OldEvilOwl · 15/11/2022 11:02

Are they crap drivers that can only get their cars off the drive if yours is not there?

Jimmini · 15/11/2022 11:05

Do you work for the government? Might they be spies and following you?

You say neighbours, I say stakeout

🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏻‍♂️

Tomorrowisalatterday · 15/11/2022 11:06

Given that it doesn't happen when you walk or use public transport, is it something to do with parking? I.e..is it a lot easier to move their car when yours isn't there? If they are older or less confident drivers, that might be the reason

Can you go out, leave your car round the corner, wait 5 minutes then sneak back in and see what happens?

Haha, I'd try this too!

triggering · 15/11/2022 11:22

This is making me laugh so much.

But maybe OP,

  • they don't feel safe at home when there are no neighbours in.

-they don't want to leave there house while you are at home because they don't trust you and think you are watching them (you are)

  • maybe they are home while you are out but you are not there to see it
Bellaboo01 · 15/11/2022 14:09

Maybe they have installed a secret underground bunker so they can escape and go out partying, for a walk, see their family without being watched and monitored by their neighbour!

NoDoor · 15/11/2022 14:16

I’d get a ring doorbell just so I can record if they leave and arrive at the same time as me. I would be concerned too
