Pay increase

Shamelessly posting here for thoughts .

Can anyone help me. I work in a school 26.5 hours per week .37 weeks per year. We have been told that we will be getting the pay increase of £1925 per year for staff working 52 weeks per year , and this will be pro rata for us.
This will be back dated to April . So my questions are how much per month does this equate too and how much for the months April-November combined as the backdated money is being paid in November.
Thanks in advance ( I’m trying not to spend it already 😁)

I work for the local council and we've had the same blanket pay rise across all levels. Yes it's pro rata to 37 hours per week/52 weeks per year

spanieleyes · 11/11/2022 20:01

So, if you worked full time but only 37 weeks rather than 52, you would get 37/52 of 1925 which is 1370.
But you work 26.5 hrs rather than 37, so you get 26.5/37 of 1370 which is 981
So you would get an extra £981 a full year. £981/12 = £81.75 a month, backdated to April , which is 10 months, so £817

I think!

That's gross, your net is likely to be in the region of £650 per year by the time you have paid tax and NI on it all and £572 if you pay around 5-6% pension contributions too. So you can budget for an extra £50 a month in your net pay

April - November = 8 months so that's £400 net in your November pay.

finallydones · 11/11/2022 20:13

It's 7 months back pay

Nope

How many weeks paid are you @HowmuchcanispendatChristmas. You work 37 weeks a year but will be paid holiday weeks on top of that.

Squirrelonwheels · 11/11/2022 20:15

For us (council) it works out as £1/hr extra if that’s helpful!

spanieleyes · 11/11/2022 20:15

Sorry, I counted too many months😥

finallydones · 11/11/2022 20:16

You probably are paid for 41/42 weeks so it's the annul salary prorated for weeks & hours.

I’ve got no idea. I assumed I didn’t get holiday pay as we can’t take holidays and are just off in school holidays. I guess though £50 per month extra is better in my pocket and it’s nice that there will be a small back dated amount this month.

Be careful with any benefits you might receive. Getting 8 months increase in one go might throw off calculations maybe if you exceed thresholds for one month

Good thought for others. Doesn’t affect me.

I get it to £654 before tax, then tax and NI to come off that. The poster above said this was 10 months but Apr to Nov is only 8 months x

EddyF · 11/11/2022 20:19

Even less with student loan payments | Pension | Tax | NI.

Even working overtime it’s sometimes not worth it.

@HowmuchcanispendatChristmas you definitely do get paid holidays! Ask your payroll for your weeks paid

Wine4whine · 11/11/2022 20:23

I've worked it out as £26.51 per working week throughout the April to November period.

1925÷52 = 37.01(this is the weekly, full time rate)
37.01÷37 = 1 (this is the hourly rate)
1 x 26.05 = 26.05 (your weekly pay rise)
26.05 x(working weeks between Apr and Nov) = your back dated pay....clear as mud 🤣

Wine4whine · 11/11/2022 20:24

*typo! 26.05 p/w

finallydones · 11/11/2022 20:24

You can't prorate 52 down to 37 because annual leave is build in to TTO.

finallydones · 11/11/2022 20:25

Anyone else worked in school payroll here? 😆

finallydones · 11/11/2022 20:26

also @HowmuchcanispendatChristmas what's a ft working week in your school? most school it's 36 hours

finallydones · 11/11/2022 20:27

Based on a conservative 41 wks paid (likely higher than that) it will be over £700 gross.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 11/11/2022 20:29

I get 5.6 weeks paid leave.
So 37+5.6 paid weeks
42.6/52 x 26.5/37 x 1925
I get 1129 payrise or £94 a month,minus tax, pension NI.
8 months pay in November payp@HowmuchcanispendatChristmas acket
