Pay increase

Shamelessly posting here for thoughts .

Can anyone help me. I work in a school 26.5 hours per week .37 weeks per year. We have been told that we will be getting the pay increase of £1925 per year for staff working 52 weeks per year , and this will be pro rata for us.
This will be back dated to April . So my questions are how much per month does this equate too and how much for the months April-November combined as the backdated money is being paid in November.
Thanks in advance ( I’m trying not to spend it already 😁)

The usual two options are 38 weeks if you attend just the same days as the children or 39 if you also attend all staff training days. The annual leave calculations do vary from council to council but based on the standard rate the pay rise for 26.5 hours per week would be

38 weeks - £1153 = £96 per month = £768 in November

39 weeks - £1179 = £98 per month = £784 in November

You use 52.142 instead of 52 weeks as that is 365 days per year divided by 7 days a week

For teachers, not all schools will pay it - if you’re an LA school then the governors will need to agree to pay in line with national agreement. Most will, but some may be in dire financial straits and as a pp has said, there’s no more money coming into schools to cover it.

Do you mean they may not pay back pay or that they may not increase the rate going forward? Would this include all school staff or just teachers?
Not heard from our school about it at all and they can be quite frugal with what they pay out for so wondering if their silence means it'll be a no from them.

Use the net salary calculator online.

@Teapleasebobb I mean they might not pay the increase - I think this applies to all school staff in a maintained school, because it’s the schools who decide how much to pay even when there’s a national agreement. Most will just agree to pay in line with whatever is agreed nationally but if they can’t afford it then they won’t be able to (very risky strategy though as highly likely to lose staff!). Hopefully yours will pay 🤞🏻

Ah ok, thank you!
I'll put the feelers out on Monday then.

Has anyone in a school had it yet? We are apparently getting it next week.

Tinkerbyebye · 18/11/2022 07:05

I work in the same sector, basically it’s a £1 an hour increase,

We got the increase in last month’s pay. Back pay to April will be in this month’s. It works out at £29 a month for me, so while it’s better than nothing, it’s not exactly going to put a dent in the gas bill.

Oh, is that all? I was hoping for more. I work 27.5 hours

If your contract is 27.5 hours, you will get more.
I work around 20 hours most weeks, but I’m only contracted for 12.

Whatever it is be mindful if you hit the next pension bracket. I work for the NHS and in September we got our 6 month pay arrears from our "payrise". Mine was meant to be £700 but £682 was taken due to pension arrears!

£18 for 6 months hard work! Absolutely fuming but nothing I could do about it.

HowmuchcanispendatChristmas · 24/11/2022 13:08

After tax, pension and national insurance I took home an extra £592 this month so well chuffed . My hourly rate has gone up by £1 too.

Yay OP - congratulations! eagerly awaits payday

Hippywannabe · 25/11/2022 22:07

Yay, I got mine today. I think I ended up with about £550

ChickenNugget86 · 25/11/2022 22:18

After deductions I got around £450. Very disappointing in my opinion. I feel the pay increase isn't enough.

Teapleasebobb · 26/11/2022 09:48

I came out with an extra £500 ish, I don't earn enough to pay tax so it was a nice bonus for us. It'll all be gone in a blink of an eye on Christmas prezzies though and whatever's left will go on bills
