to expect Alexa to play the song I want and not just similar songs that it thinks I might like (Amazon Prime rant)

I have an Amazon Prime account. I used to be able to ask Alexa to play a song (or even an album) and it would play that song if it was included with Amazon Prime. There were times it couldn't do that as it was only available on Amazon Music but there you go. I even had some playlists.

Not anymore. Now it has been upgraded.

The good news - 100 million songs are available

However, you ask for a song and it will play a song maybe by that artist (or a similar genre). Then it shuffles similar songs.

Just asked it to play the Rolling Stones Paint it black. I got another Rolling Stones track and then a bit of Bob Dylan.

I don't mind these songs but they weren't what I asked for

I'm pretty sure it is a change Apple made recently to the onboard operating systems. We just bought a new Alexa Dot so now we have 2 Alexa's in our home, the new Echo Dot 5th Gen (the sphere) and we also have the 3rd Gen (the hockey puck). The 3rd Gen still says it will play the playlist or artist I asked for, the 5th Gen says it will play that and similar selections. I really hate that Apple did that. What a terrible decision- though there is probably a financial motivation behind it.

I find Spotify works really well with Alexa. Plays exactly what you want and has some amazing playlists.

After much of a similar rant , I signed up for 3 months of free Amazon “actually play the bloody music I ask for “ . Once my three months are up I will cancel and work around another way . What irritates me most is that it no longer plays the music I actually purchased from Amazon , eg auto rips of CDs etc when I ask for them .

I will be switching to Apple Music and not using Amazon Prime anymore (we don't have an Alexa but do use the music app on phones)
