to expect Alexa to play the song I want and not just similar songs that it thinks I might like (Amazon Prime rant)

I have an Amazon Prime account. I used to be able to ask Alexa to play a song (or even an album) and it would play that song if it was included with Amazon Prime. There were times it couldn't do that as it was only available on Amazon Music but there you go. I even had some playlists.

Not anymore. Now it has been upgraded.

The good news - 100 million songs are available

However, you ask for a song and it will play a song maybe by that artist (or a similar genre). Then it shuffles similar songs.

Just asked it to play the Rolling Stones Paint it black. I got another Rolling Stones track and then a bit of Bob Dylan.

I don't mind these songs but they weren't what I asked for

This is why I went back to CDs. I refuse to have a computer decide what I want to listen to.

ivartheboneless · 09/11/2022 18:03

Noticed this few days ago with my Alexa.
I de-registered it and then set it up again as if new and now works fine again.

Chickenkorma64 · 09/11/2022 18:04

YES! This is so annoying. Now when I ask Alexa to play MY playlists, compiled by me, she adds other random stuff in. It’s so irritating. I made my playlists because I like those songs. Is there any way round this?

AnyRandomName · 09/11/2022 18:07

So annoying!

It's part of a strategic change by Amazon music and presumably part of a push to have customers pay the £8.99 extra a month on top of the amount they are already paying.

I will be switching to Apple Music and not using Amazon Prime anymore (we don't have an Alexa but do use the music app on phones)

cakeorwine · 09/11/2022 18:08

Now got Sunshine of your love by Cream

And then Jimmy Hendrix

But no Paint it Black

Every time she does it I say, Alexa I want to leave feedback. Depending on my general mood sometimes the feedback is polite!

cakeorwine · 09/11/2022 18:11

I mean, so far these are good tunes.

A bit of the Doors now

I lost it today after the shuffle change.
Not cancelling amazon because of other things I used but bloody hell. If I could cancel just music, I totally would.

CumbrianExile · 09/11/2022 18:15

Yes! I thought there was something wrong with our Alexa. My kids were getting really annoyed the other night because it wasn't playing the song they asked for. I ended up asking using the full title and artist and it eventually played, but its so annoying!

Gwdihooooo · 09/11/2022 18:17

I use Spotify through my Alexa and don’t have this problem. Which is why I changed from Amazon music

That could be the plan.

A bit of The Who now

They piss you off so you upgrade to the premium, it’s winding me up so much at the moment 🤬

Dracarys1 · 09/11/2022 18:22

It also only lets you skip 6 times in 60 minutes so when my DS specifically wanted a peppa pig song (groan) and it kept playing just about anything else, I couldn't even skip it until I found it. Very frustrating.

ferneytorro · 09/11/2022 18:26

Don't get me started I am fuming. Running in the gym, flagging a bit so thought I will put a rousing one on (Safety Dance Men Without hats) I was jabbing away at my phone, nothing happening. It also then seems to play the same ones when it shuffles - it then played one track three times and obviously had just got stuck.

Then - it played a good one, Calafornia Dreaming 0 excellent I thought, then did the playing other songs it thinks you'll like. Beatles - I would never ever put the Beatles on my playlist, I don't need my mind changing I know I don't want it on there.

Sorry that was long and ranty. I am not amused. Spotify you can get for £99 for 12 months so that may be the way to go.

pinkfondu · 09/11/2022 18:32

This has caused my issues as I can't play tge wake up song now for ds

AuntieDolly · 09/11/2022 18:33

It's so annoying! I'm just shouting skip! Skip! Then telling her to stop 😡

Beanbagtrap · 09/11/2022 18:38

This has caused my 3yo to learn the phrase "just fucking stop it you arse Alexa"

RedRiverShore2 · 09/11/2022 18:39

I use Apple Music as I have HomePod and Alexa, if you are having to pay extra, i would probably get Spotify or Apple rather than Amazon, I would be very annoyed about this.

PuppyMonkey · 09/11/2022 18:49

Spotify is the solution, I think you can make it your default for playing music. That’s what mine does.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 09/11/2022 18:58

Mine's fine. Listening to Paint it Black right now. Will this change soon?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/11/2022 19:01

Can also confirm @cakeorwine that oddly enough, Spotify is much easier to use than Amazon Music on an Echo, or so I have found.

You can just switch off any Autoplay.

35965a · 09/11/2022 19:01

Get on Spotify, much better

ChakaKhanfan · 09/11/2022 19:01

Hahahahahahahaha amazing

ChakaKhanfan · 09/11/2022 19:03

I’ve just changed my settings so hopefully Alexa doesn’t piss me off with Amazon music anymore 🙏🏼 It was a close call, she nearly went in the neighbours skip

cakeorwine · 09/11/2022 20:35

I might start testing Alexa with some very specific music tastes and see what happens.
