dh thinks im only joking but im very serious about it, i don't want baby growing up hearing machine guns blasting, dh shouting "fcking cnt" and "this gun is sh*t" at the game he is playing. i also don't want my LO thinking its alright to spend hours sitting in a dark room playing computer games.

am i being unreasonable?

yes you are, but he should feck off to the bedroom to play

spokette · 29/01/2008 16:33

Only if you plan to spend hours on MN in presence of said baby

kerryk · 29/01/2008 16:33

yanbu about the bad language and spending hours playing it but yabu about getting totally rid.

how would you feel if he told you to give up mumsnet

frootloop · 29/01/2008 16:36

we only have one tv and it will be over my dead body if i have to spend any baby free time in the evenings sitting on the sofa watching him shooting people to pieces.

i wouldnt get rid of it as babies stop you from doing alot of things and i would of been mortified to have to get rid of my playstation me and dp found this as our sanity

i'm sure you can ask him to keep it down and when babies here i'm sure he would anyway
as it'd come naturally if he wants peace on it then why not

LowFat · 29/01/2008 16:38

Get your DH some new games which are calmer. When DD was little we would often spend evening playing games on the playstation together to pass the time I remember those days fondly.

We have 2 DC's now and there is no time anymore, ahem, I am facebook or MN all the time on the PC.

LowFat · 29/01/2008 16:38

wrong effects

bubblagirl · 29/01/2008 16:39

are you getting rid of the tv or will it be off around baby as worse things are to be seen and heard on there

frootloop · 29/01/2008 16:40

if i spent hours on mumsnet shouting "stupid fcking btch" and other obcenities at the computer i could understand if dh tried to ban it.

im not going to allow tv for baby either, it'll rot his brain and give him square eyes.

lol at fio

Try a spot of guitar hero 3. Once you can scoot through School's Out by Alice Cooper you'll be converted.

Seriously though, DP just bought his xbox and accompanying new big telly precisely beacuse baby is due in a few weeks and we're going to be stuck at home a little more. Negotiate with him about the shooting games though if it bothers you.

There are some really good games you could play together when the baby will be asleep.

Good luck with the birth,

oops, I killed this thread

He could not play it around the child. Our children were subjected if that's the right word to organ fugues at home and piano music which I don't think did them much harm but depends if you think that is better than say an X box.

We have similar issues with the teenage brother and little baby twins who at 9 one of them anyway are as into the wii/xbox stuff as their older brother and presumably would not have been if the older brother were not in the house.

YANBU regarding the language - your child should not be subjected to eharing that. Buts aying that I wouldn't accept DH saying it in front of me either.

Not sure I'd go as far as banning the games station though. Nothing wrong with responsible games playing IMO.

yabu to want him to get rid altogether my dh only plays his when ds is in bed and im reading or on mn.walks off sniggering at rot his brain

Washersaurus · 29/01/2008 21:22

I'd let him keep it if I were you; DH used his game consoles in the middle of the night whilst sat up with crying newborn babies so I could get some sleep between feeds.

The swearing is something to work on if it bothers you though

Washersaurus · 29/01/2008 21:24

LOL at banning TV and square eyes

Cbeebies WILL become your best friend
