How often is an otherwise clockwork period delayed by stress or travel?!

Youngatheart00 · 06/11/2022 20:20

As the message above says

Currently on cycle day 37….a fair amount of emotional stress recently and a bit of travel, but nothing to throw off time zones

I’m 37….too early for peri menopause?

If I’m pregnant that would be a huge shock….struggled with infertility for so long I’ve not even got any tests in the house!!

Every couple of days I get that cramping feeling like something is about to begin and then…..nothing

Sorry also to say regular cycle is 27-28 days and has been for so many years, with the exception of my covid jabs which all made me late by 5 or 6 days

37 is very early for PM. I’m 46 and no sign of PM. Could be stress, but worth testing - good luck

Crispynoodle · 06/11/2022 20:33

You need to test! Fingers crossed

rightkindofwrongg · 06/11/2022 20:39

What did the test say?

Katelyn88 · 06/11/2022 20:40

Around that age, my periods began to dance around a bit. Like clockwork until then.

Around 2 or 3 periods a year were either too early or too late. Emotional stress may have played a role too.

Im 41 now. It’s still the same.

Youngatheart00 · 06/11/2022 20:42

I don’t have any tests at home and medically it’s hugely highly unlikely

I just know it gets referred to that ‘stress can delay your period’ but if it never has before…just trying to understand how common that is

I’ll give it til midweek and then get a test. It wouldn’t necessarily be good news if I was pregnant!

Op that I always got that crampy period type pain when I was v early pregnant.
Im 37 and I’ve had all my dcs years ago but periods still regular , however viruses can through them out a bit. That crampy feeling though was my earliest sign with all my dcs…. Best of luck op

Only happened to me twice and I was pregnant both times

Laquila · 06/11/2022 21:24

The only time I've missed a period in 30yrs was when my best friend had an abortion, miles away and I couldn't do anything to help her - I don't know whether it was the stress/worry for her, but I've been pretty stressed several times since and it's never happened again 😳

Newnameoclock · 06/11/2022 21:26

You can have an anovulatory cycle. If you don't ovulate you don't have a period. I've had more of these as I've got older

Youngatheart00 · 06/11/2022 22:15

@Newnameoclock never heard of that - what happens in that case then, does the womb lining just not build?

feel really off balance and just want to get back to my natural cycle

Stress always delayed my period. When the stressful time resolved, it arrived :-).

Coffeeisnecessary · 06/11/2022 22:18

I missed a period once for no reason they could find, I wasn't particularly stressed and definitely wasn't pregnant, I even had a scan as I'd had pains before so they were checking for cysts. Couldn't find a reason and hasn't happened since.

My period arrived 2 weeks after I ovulate next and is no different to how it normally is. Mine are really heavy by default though.

If you've felt flat and also didn't feel the intense urge to jump the nearest man mid cycle then it's probably you never ovulated and things will reset soon enough.

Newnameoclock · 06/11/2022 22:21

It's the posh way of saying you're stressed out of eaten too much/not enough

OneStepOneStumble · 06/11/2022 22:39

I have missed a period twice in my life, both around stressful periods of my life (uni exams or workplace bullying). Both times I was convinced I must be pregnant, but my period arrived as normal the next month 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stress always delayed my period. When the stressful time resolved, it arrived :-).

This was totally me a few weeks ago. Period was due 10 days before London Marathon - perfect timing. It didn't come (it's not that regular, but regular enough to expect it). The closer it got to the day, the more stressed I was about it as I REALLY didn't want to run it on my period (and I didn't want to take anything to delay it as it would have been a big unknown). It didn't arrive before the big day. A week later, it came along.

My stress levels were sky high in the weeks before the marathon - mainly because I was so worried that I'd get covid (or something else) or some random injury, and all my months and months of training would go to waste. I was like a coiled spring. I think it played havoc with my hormones.

Meltingsocks · 06/11/2022 22:58

Very best of luck OP. FWIW the only times my period has ever been late is when I have been pregnant. 37 way too early for peri,

Flamingle18 · 06/11/2022 23:29

I'm 39 and in PM. Periods began to become irregular around 37. Just been put on HRT after scans and blood tests. Doctor initially said they have had a lot of reports of periods becoming irregular after people having the Covid jab.

nonstoprenovation · 06/11/2022 23:59

Have you had covid?? Or jabs recently.

TrippyLily · 07/11/2022 00:03

Mine was late for the first time ever at 31. Came back and was normal again. No rhyme or reason to it. Guess it can just happen.

Jarstastic · 07/11/2022 10:17

I used to travel for work quite often and if it was before ovulation, would often have a delayed ovulation. Didn’t matter if I was going into a time zone. Must be something about going on a plane or cabin pressure which made my body think no not yet.

GrunkleStan · 07/11/2022 10:46

I once had a real stressful period at work (shitty company) and I had 3 in 6 weeks (a period 1 week and pmt the next x 3).

In the buildup to our wedding I didn't have 1 for 3 months , and then it arrived on the wedding day.

My bodies shit 😂

maddening · 07/11/2022 10:54

I had a period (normally on time) just before my op at the end of September, since then had awful complications and 2 hospital stays with loads of scans and procedures and have not had my next period yet - reckon my body is a bit shocked so not worrying at this point. I am 44 but my mum for example did not get peri menopause till near on 60 so hoping that I am not there yet and this is just a blip.

Backtoreality1 · 07/11/2022 10:57

Mine were frequently delayed by a few days for stress....sometimes it was quite helpful! Currently 4 days late and keeping fingers crossed that I AM menopausal as ready for them to stop now :)
