To think that this looks absolutely hideous?

It’s Royal Carribbean’s latest cruise liner, Icon of the Seas. Don’t get me wrong, I love cruising, but on ships that look like ships, not floating theme parks or apartment blocks.

You couldn’t relax, even. Point is complaining you can’t relax quietly on a deck that’s made to look like a water park just makes you look a bit stupid.

emptythelitterbox · 04/11/2022 13:07

I don't think it would be for me.

I wouldn't mind touring it to see what all it has though.

AsTreesWalking · 04/11/2022 13:15

Looks appalling to me.
Not yhat I would go on any giant cruise ship - I couldn't bear so many people in an enclosed space, and they are a pollution nightmare!

Wheresthebeach · 04/11/2022 13:17

These horrific cruise ships should be banned.

awmum2b · 04/11/2022 13:18

@AlmostSummer21 Thank you :)...and to the poster above that wished us a happy holiday.

The DC will be almost 8 and almost 6 when this cruise comes around, I'm hoping they'll be just the age to start remembering their adventures. My main concern is the 9 hour flight to Miami at the moment, which does sound like hell on earth as there really is no escape!!

Ivyonafence · 04/11/2022 13:18

Should've banned they are shit for the environment

Crankley · 04/11/2022 13:21

Sheer hell. I recently watched a video on Prime about a super cruise ship - it holds 5,000 guests. No matter how many swimming pools it has, all were surrounded by rows and rows of lounge chairs, you could hardly see the water for people and I can't help thinking it was probably more pee than water by the end of the day.

Herejustforthisone · 04/11/2022 13:21

If I had to cruise, I’d much rather go in that one. Looks fun.

Would you apply that to all shipping?

🤣🤣🤣🤣your friends have the measure if you🤣🤣🤣

missing as one 'I can't find my wife' (later found in the salon with a cocktail' yes.

'Missing' as in overboard... don't be so gullible 🙄🙄🙄

I’ve only been on one cruise… but we did lose a passenger overboard. Married woman, they think she ‘jumped’ from her cabin balcony. We spent a day on the ship going up and down looking for her with the help of regional air forces. We were interviewed by the FBI as our cabin was near. (Only briefly, didn’t see/ hear anything, didn’t know them).
When we returned home I googled - the only report I found about it was on an obscure shipping website. I was surprised there was nothing in the normal media. Whilst I don’t imagine it happens on every cruise as the pp claimed, it did make me wonder how often it does happen and how it’s not reported on.

Absolutely hideous!! Imagine being on deck, relaxing and reading with the amount of noise that would be resonating. I'll stick with Arcadia.

You’d just go to one of the many decks not near the water slides.

Or the adults only solarium

Washyourfaceinmysink · 04/11/2022 13:29

Re my wording above ‘married woman’ - meant to say she was on the cruise/in the cabin with her husband, ‘jumped’ off their balcony in the middle of the night.

Blueberrycreampie · 04/11/2022 13:30

I've been on a few, older RC ships but that is one I will not be going on. It's a monstrosity!

Cancelledtwiceover · 04/11/2022 13:40

Showing my age now, but it brings back memories of Timmy Mallett and Wackaday. Would half expect him to be on board singing itsy bitsy teeny weeny polka dot bikini, while unsuspecting passengers that had booked a nice cruise considered how to make it stop.

ClaireEclair · 04/11/2022 13:44

Are you sure it’s even real? It looks like photoshop to me.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2022 13:47

GentlemanJay · 04/11/2022 10:52

Does it matter. You don't have to go on it?

It matters if this monstrosity moors up somewhere and spoils the place for everyone else.

Royal Caribbean don't actually spend that much time in port - one of the reasons I avoid them.

In a two week cruise sometimes you're lucky to get 5 port days. They say the ship is the holiday hence the theme park ship.

I like to cruise but I like to be in port seeing different places so the like of Marella who tend to go into port 6 days out of 7 is more my thing.

I'd never go near something that big

Imagine being trapped on board, day after day, with all that and not being able to escape. The shrieking and screaming. 😱

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/11/2022 13:52

I watched the video linked above. It looked amazing if you like that kind of thing. Magnificent computer generated imaging, but although it does show passengers, there are only a very very few, would be fascinated to see a more realistic version showing how crowded it would be with a full complement of passengers.

It looks very busy, so I get your point. I wouldn't say no though. Although I highly suspect most of my family would spend the time seasick.

You can barely even tell you're moving on a cruise ship, unless you look over the edge and look directly at the water below. I was dubious the first time I did a cruise due to getting really bad seasickness during a Dutch dash and thought I'd be spending the entire week of my cruise with my head shoved in a sick bag. The only times I felt it swaying slightly was in the shower (no idea why) and the time I had to go down the onboard medical centre which was lower down on the ship. That day I felt sick anyway due to tonsillitis so I'm not sure if it made any difference. We always try and book a room around deck 12 the plus side it's higher up and not as far from the pools and buffet place. Downside is during the emergency drill practice and the lifts are shut off and having to climb back up all the stairs again.

I was taken in a cruise as a youngster and someone went overboard. I don’t believe they were found, either. Thy obviously keep it quiet during the passage as it causes widespread concern.

LoobyDop · 04/11/2022 14:29

Is that real?! It looks like something out of Sim City.

GucciBear · 04/11/2022 15:04

My point exactly! - That is why I shall stick to Arcadia and leave this monstrosity - to my mind - alone.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 04/11/2022 15:10

Ugh, imagine having the kind of money to afford that, and choosing to spend it on a dystopian, gas-guzzling, polluting, fibreglass petri-dish.

I guess some people can find no joy or value in the Real World and have to resort to manufactured distractions.

EndlessMagpies · 04/11/2022 15:11

It looks like the Pompidou Centre on acid.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 04/11/2022 15:14

"Does it matter. You don't have to go on it?"

There's always one of the "JuSt dOn'T dO It iF u don'T LiKe iT!!!" brigade.

It does matter. It encourages a culture where holidays like this are the norm. It encourages and normalises a lifestyle of excessive consumption, waste and pollution.
