To think that this looks absolutely hideous?

It’s Royal Carribbean’s latest cruise liner, Icon of the Seas. Don’t get me wrong, I love cruising, but on ships that look like ships, not floating theme parks or apartment blocks.

Well unless they're going to start rounding people up and forcing them to go cruising against their will, what does it matter?

People like different things and are free to choose a different holiday if that one doesn't suit.

GentlemanJay · 04/11/2022 10:52

Does it matter. You don't have to go on it?

elastamum · 04/11/2022 10:53

I used to think that until I took my 2 DC away on one as a single parent. We had a brilliant time and even I got looked after by the wonderful staff on board.

mjf981 · 04/11/2022 10:53

Maximum capacity 7600 passengers!!!! My idea of hell. Imaging all the viruses all those children will bring aboard.

3peassuit · 04/11/2022 10:58

It looks like Lego crossed with a rat cage. My DGC would think it heaven.

Pinkdelight3 · 04/11/2022 10:58

Looks like a disaster movie waiting to happen. Hellish enough when it's going well, but imagine it going down. Christ. No way would you get me near it.

ouch321 · 04/11/2022 11:01

I found a tour of it on YouTube

CatsAreCrackers · 04/11/2022 11:01

I'm really seasick, even on big ships and I don't like people. So it's my idea of hell, but I know a couple of families who would have an absolute whale of a time on that. Horses for courses and all that!

Choconut · 04/11/2022 11:01

It can carry 10,000 passengers and crew. My idea of hell - imagine norovirus running rampant through that. Also so awful for the environment and does very little for local economies. Personally I think they SHOULD stay out at sea.

I think cruise ships just get bigger and bigger. One can only assume that the more people on board a voyage the more cash they'll make each time they set out and that's what it boils down to.

I'm guessing queueing to get off ships this big when it's time to go on land excursions really eats into docked time.

There are multiple gangways

Razzle5 · 04/11/2022 11:04

To me as a single traveller? Yes. Ghastly.
To me children? Heaven on earth

and because of the latter? I would love too

LunaTheCat · 04/11/2022 11:04

its a giant floating Petrie Dish.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 04/11/2022 11:04

That looks like Hell on the High Seas.

I would hate the level of noise, number of passengers and the absolute tack of it. You’d have to pay me a lot of money to board that monstrosity.

DramaGiraffe · 04/11/2022 11:05

Christ. Where would you go to relax quietly? Would you have to lock yourself in the cabin? Just looking at that gives me a headache, so tacky and that's without thousands of people.

Also, one of the waterslides looks like it's hanging out over the sea?! 😧

beachcitygirl · 04/11/2022 11:06

I think it looks amazing!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 04/11/2022 11:06

Also, I don’t understand it - why pay thousands and thousands to go to a floating theme park? Why do it at sea - why not Disney or the like?

DramaGiraffe · 04/11/2022 11:06

LemonsOnSaleAgain · 04/11/2022 10:28

It looks like an enormous hamster cage!

A very apt description!

These horrible ships are ecological disasters.

I wat he'd a documentary about Venice and these cruise ships are basically destroying the whole city.
The sea water is pushed by these ships through the canal causing the buildings to flood and decay (I'm not sure if that's the right word. The lower parts of the building are crumbling)

Cruise ships paired with motor boats on the canal are causing untold damage. But tourism and consumerism take precedence. Of course.

CloudPop · 04/11/2022 11:08

My idea of hell

SirenSays · 04/11/2022 11:08

It looks like floating butlins. Imagine the sickness bugs and the noise. Wouldn't go if you paid me. I don't even like busy hotels, the best part of the day is when everyone leaves and you can find a nice quiet spot for a cocktail with a book.

Applesonthelawn · 04/11/2022 11:10

The best part of going to a theme park is leaving it. Imagine being there and not being free to leave. Awful.

miceonabranch · 04/11/2022 11:14

Omg I couldn't stand that 😭 😱

ImustLearn2Cook · 04/11/2022 11:14

RoseMartha · 04/11/2022 10:31

I would hate that personally. Not my kind of holiday.

@RoseMartha me too. I would want to relax a bit on a cruise, not be trapped in a theme park in the middle of the ocean with no way to escape.

miceonabranch · 04/11/2022 11:14

I'd pretend to have appendicitis and get airlifted off 😆

It looks like an enormous hamster cage!

It so does 🤣 Takes me back to my youth and the ever growing "habitrail" monstrosity I constructed around the entire perimeter of my bedroom. Used to scream if anyone tried to open the door as it would send hammys tunnels flying, so my mum had to take the door off its hinges and make it opened outwards.
