To think this woman with ‘psychic abilities’ is a nasty scam artist?

My DS came home from work yesterday and told me that he was writing out an invoice (car related) for a customer who was sitting at his desk, when she suddenly said to him out of the blue ‘there’s something not right with you, I don’t think you’re very well’ .
DS asked her what she meant by that, and she replied ‘ I sometimes get these visions and feelings when I look at people, and I urge you to see your Doctor because I think somethings wrong with you’.

My DS was obviously taken aback by her sudden outburst, but he just tried to ignore her. The woman (in her 70’s roughly) then continued with her claim that she believes my DS is ill and she also involved his colleagues by saying to them ‘don’t you think he looks pale?’ No one took her on though.
She then pointed to her throat and ran her fingers down to her stomach and added ‘it’s something around this area but I don’t know what’

She then offered my DS her phone number, just so he could let her know whether she was right about him if he saw the Doctor, and her number was stuck on the back of her phone, almost as if she gives it out a lot I think. My DS copied the number, he doesn’t know why.

The woman then left but before she did, she also said to my DS ‘you need to be careful driving too’ . WTF!

Anyway, when he told me, her words had clearly played on his mind all day, but myself and his work colleagues told him that she’s a fraudster.

Now I’ve just received a call from my DS, on his lunch, to say that the woman’s been back in today ( she’s having work done on her car), approached my DS and said ‘oh I know what’s wrong with you’, as she took his palm and added, ‘it’s your white blood cells because you’ve got all these white dots’ … we’ve no idea wtf she’s talking about!

My DS decided to play along with her and ask what she could do for him, to which she replied that she’s a ‘bit of a healer’ and that ‘mediums always contact her asking her to join their groups but she declines’ apparently.
He asked what she charged, to which she replied she doesn’t, she just ‘tells people what she visualises in them because she’s got empathy’

Now I’m fuming on my DS’s behalf. How TF can someone say all this bollocks?
I believe she’s a scam artist, but what does she get out of it if she doesn’t charge?

thoughts please.

She isn’t a scam artist.

She obviously believes what she says. She doesn’t want money or anything off him. But she believes it.

Fwiw, I know a few people older people who have their number on the back of their phone so they can remember it.

JKGalbraith · 03/11/2022 15:48

She’s not trying to scam him if she doesn’t charge, obviously. She sounds like one of those people who believe they have a psychic gift and feels the need to share it with random strangers. Weird, not a scammer

Mummieslncorporated · 03/11/2022 15:49

There was someone local to me that was known as a healer. He never took any money from anyone, and I know people that say he did some remarkable things.

Maybe she can see and do things, maybe she can't. But it doesn't sound like she is scamming anyone.

Fwiw for some reason we have trouble believing that some human beings can sense illness, but have no trouble believing that some dogs can detect cancer. I'm not saying humans can or can't - but I am saying that it's not the least believable thing I've heard.

Name99 · 03/11/2022 15:50

She's mentally unwell and if she continues harassing him he needs to call the police

Rowthe · 03/11/2022 15:51

A lot of people believe the crap that comes out of their mouths.

So she might not be scamming, but it's not worth spending too much time thinking about what shes said.

Kanaloa · 03/11/2022 15:52

I’d treat her the same as I’d treat someone who came up to me on the bus and screamed ‘I AM THE MESSIAH!’ I’d presume they were unwell enough to believe this delusion, and wouldn’t tolerate it. I’d say ‘please don’t continue this,’ and if it was in my place of work I’d call security. She’s harassing him in his workplace. It’s not acceptable, whether she thinks she is psychic or not.

cherrysthename · 03/11/2022 15:52

She's mentally ill. How horrible for your son, though.

BigglyBee · 03/11/2022 15:57

Some people do it for cash, some people do it for attention, and some actually believe it themselves. There's no way for us to tell, but your son needs to tell her to stop it.

Astrak · 03/11/2022 16:05

I support your son telling her to stop harassing him.
Or, if he feels unwell or anxious about her comments, he could indeed go to his GP and get a check up.

Vanillapeach · 03/11/2022 16:08

The woman said she doesn’t charge, but she could be just trying to initially ‘reel my DS in’ , and then if he did contact her for help, she may say ‘oh well I do all these healing things but I would have to charge a small token etc etc ‘

I mean, what the fuck does someone get out of telling people things like this, not only about my Son’s health, but also his driving 😡
He’s not going to deal with her if she goes back in.

I once went to the funfair and me and my friends got our fortune told, my friends were really positive. Mine was my mam was going into hospital. I spent years worrying and feeling dread and doom. Awful feeling

Onlyforcake · 03/11/2022 16:21

Anyone who believes they are psychic is either scamming or ill. Either way, I hope your sin doesn't pay attention to her

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 03/11/2022 16:22

Your poor son!

These kind of ‘woo’ people are full of ego.

hangryyhippo · 03/11/2022 16:25

But that's because there's an actual mechanism of how they detect it @Mummieslncorporated - they're doing it based on scent changes associated with biochemical differences rather than magic

Humans don't generally have the capacity to detect this

ForestofD · 03/11/2022 16:26

There was a lady on a programme recently. (It may have even been the one about Jeremy Paxman) She's currently part of a trial because she can smell people who have dementia. 100% correct.

A scientist set up a trial and she identified 6 people with dementia. They thought she had 2 incorrect because they were the 'not dementia' category. Turns out they had early dementia and she was 100% correct.

On the other hand, she might just be strange.

My daughter had a “reading” once with a group of friends. She came back full of the information and advice that had been passed on, mostly from her deceased great grandfather on my side , James. Lots of warnings, lots of things she should do, pathways to take, best wishes from the other side, watching over her with love, Guardian angels etc etc.

Except in real life, ie when he was alive, his name was David. No James in the family on either side.

” Oh “ said my dd, “ I always thought he was called James, so when she said did the name James mean anything to any of us I said yes….”

CapMarvel · 03/11/2022 16:30

There are 2 types of "psychics".

People who know it's bollocks but claim otherwise. These people are frauds.
People who actually believe it. These people are deluded.

I bet the ‘reading’ cost good money too!

That’s awful, and it just shows how words can really affect people.

I suspect some people are just desperately looking for a way to be more significant, rather than deceptive.

catchthedog · 03/11/2022 16:41

if he doesn't believe he can just ignore her. if he does, he can get checked by doc and either be ok or they find something that needs help. can't really see any bad outcome of this ..

Georgeskitchen · 03/11/2022 16:52

It's bollocks . She needs locking up. No genuine "clairvoyant/medium" whatever they choose to call themselves, would walk up to a random person and tell them they have a serious illness.
If this woman turns up again she needs to be told to leave and banned from the premises

bathbombaholic · 03/11/2022 16:55

I thought they weren't allowed to tell you anything bad...

That being said, if it was me I would 100% go and see a doctor 🤣

Please please look at Derren Brown and Psychics..and James Randi.

It's all bollocks.

I used to believe in that nonsense, when very young, but none of it came true!
Don't worry.

She is doing it for ego or money.

Birdsofafeatherflocktogether · 03/11/2022 17:05

God,I know a woman like this
i used to do her hair on the side and she really believed that she had ‘powers’
i broke my ankle one day and she came round-wafted her hands over my foot and said I’d be on my feet within a few days and ‘could I feel the heat?’
er,nope-was laid up for 4 weeks and no heat
i was diagnosed with arthritis in my knee and hip and was struggling to walk at work but on painkillers I can hide it well
anyway, she came round about 3 months later and told me I would have issues with my knee and not to worry-painkillers would work and I’d be fine
Turns out she’d seen me outside my work one day,and I was limping as it was really hurting
she didn’t come in that day but filed it away for later

it’s all a con but she really believes it
