To think this woman with ‘psychic abilities’ is a nasty scam artist?

My DS came home from work yesterday and told me that he was writing out an invoice (car related) for a customer who was sitting at his desk, when she suddenly said to him out of the blue ‘there’s something not right with you, I don’t think you’re very well’ .
DS asked her what she meant by that, and she replied ‘ I sometimes get these visions and feelings when I look at people, and I urge you to see your Doctor because I think somethings wrong with you’.

My DS was obviously taken aback by her sudden outburst, but he just tried to ignore her. The woman (in her 70’s roughly) then continued with her claim that she believes my DS is ill and she also involved his colleagues by saying to them ‘don’t you think he looks pale?’ No one took her on though.
She then pointed to her throat and ran her fingers down to her stomach and added ‘it’s something around this area but I don’t know what’

She then offered my DS her phone number, just so he could let her know whether she was right about him if he saw the Doctor, and her number was stuck on the back of her phone, almost as if she gives it out a lot I think. My DS copied the number, he doesn’t know why.

The woman then left but before she did, she also said to my DS ‘you need to be careful driving too’ . WTF!

Anyway, when he told me, her words had clearly played on his mind all day, but myself and his work colleagues told him that she’s a fraudster.

Now I’ve just received a call from my DS, on his lunch, to say that the woman’s been back in today ( she’s having work done on her car), approached my DS and said ‘oh I know what’s wrong with you’, as she took his palm and added, ‘it’s your white blood cells because you’ve got all these white dots’ … we’ve no idea wtf she’s talking about!

My DS decided to play along with her and ask what she could do for him, to which she replied that she’s a ‘bit of a healer’ and that ‘mediums always contact her asking her to join their groups but she declines’ apparently.
He asked what she charged, to which she replied she doesn’t, she just ‘tells people what she visualises in them because she’s got empathy’

Now I’m fuming on my DS’s behalf. How TF can someone say all this bollocks?
I believe she’s a scam artist, but what does she get out of it if she doesn’t charge?

thoughts please.

I'd test how psychic she was and throw a stapler at her head out the blue. If it hits he's a scam artist and if she dodged it I'd go the doctors.

My grandmother had a real hatred of mediums because of what she saw following WW1, when such things were very prevalent.

Her analysis on how they worked was- seeing a young woman in black without a wedding ring; sweetheart or brother. Young woman in black with ring; husband, possibly brother. Older woman in black; son. If you think about this they would be pretty good leads to work from in the context of the time.

She considered them "vultures feeding on grief" and I don't think she was far wrong.

That’s what I said too, we all need to be careful driving!

So true.
It's just a Barnum statement.
One of the most stunning things Derren Brown did was to do a Psychic reading /atrology reading for a group of people.
They all said how perceptive and accurate he was.
He said ''Now swap the readings, and see if you can tell who is mentioned in each reading.''
All of them got their own reading back.

Because all readings were the same.

All of us have to take care crossing roads/driving/cycling..Plus the stuff about 'Health' was so far off the mark as to be nuts.

Vague, and what caucasian person isn't ''Pale'' at this time of year!..
People mentioning how certain illnesses have a 'Scent' to them, this is very different, Parkinson's &c and diabetes.

That is a physical ability, not 'Psychic'.

Years ago I was told by a Fairground fortune teller that I'd have two children and a daughter I'd be very proud of
I have a son, no daughter.

She also said I'd die at 86!

That sounds quite a good innings if true. But she was a paid fortune teller...at the time, in early 20's I was worried about a breast 'lump.'..

The wise old lady advised I see a doctor as soon as possible.

{It was ok}

EmeraldShamrock1 · 04/11/2022 00:18

I didn't believe in psychics but my friend went to one recently using her married name to book, no SM, I don't know how the phychic/medium done it but she knew some much in great detail.

The huge losses in WW1 saw the first 'Boom' in 'Mediumship', because of the shocking losses incurred by nearly every street and family in UK {and Worldwide}.

It was literally taking advantage of grief.

When a relative died, we did a specific thing so that if a psychic mentions what we did, We'll know it couldn't be guesswork!

As yet, no one has mentioned it.

Fraaahnces · 04/11/2022 00:26

These people are dangerous. She DOES want money from him though. She gave him her card. She wants him to make an appointment and presumably pay her. Disgusting.

Speaking as someone whose intermittent chest pain was diagnosed (correctly) as asthma by someone gazing into the irises of my eyes, I do think that some people can instinctively know when something is amiss, and can often have good idea of what it is.

So I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

Technically I could look in to someone's eyes and diagnose an illness. I work doing retinal photography and OCT scans though, so that's kind of the point of my job.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/11/2022 00:49

I thought it all bollocks but jury is out. A woman grabbed my hand on a street and told me I needed to get checked at the doctors as something was growing within me.

Now I had recently moved and wasn't signed up to a doctor. Had a clear smear 6 months earlier. When I signed with new doc (different country) was asked about smear and this woman's voice was in my head so I said I was due one. I had pre cancerous cells - had them burned off.
If I had left it another 2.5 years it may not have been so easy.

So yeah, head says bollocks and heart says maybe not!

MakeItRain · 04/11/2022 01:11

I know someone whose cancer was detected by a reiki practitioner. She was told to see a GP because the healer said she "felt" something in exactly the spot the cancer was. I can't remember exactly what she felt (maybe heat?). The lady with the cancer did get checked out and the tumour was caught early, removed and she's still cancer free a couple of decades later. So I'm open to the idea of some people being able to sense illness.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 04/11/2022 01:19

She is a kook, just ignore.

arctica · 04/11/2022 01:23

Ekátn · 03/11/2022 15:44

She isn’t a scam artist.

She obviously believes what she says. She doesn’t want money or anything off him. But she believes it.

Fwiw, I know a few people older people who have their number on the back of their phone so they can remember it.

Lots of scam artists don't ask for money right off the bat.

Coffeenoww · 04/11/2022 01:28

I suppose if they say to enough people that they have a sense they are ill, eventually someone will be efficiently confirming their ability like gamblers I suppose only talk about the wins

Vanillapeach · 04/11/2022 04:59

She also mentioned the C word when looking at my Sons palms, whilst telling him that she does healing and that what he’s got is treatable, she showed him her palms and pointed to a ‘star’ on one hand (which he couldn’t see) that meant she had this ability apparently ( even though she’d said she didn’t think she was psychic but others did)
The woman also told him that she ‘knows where dead bodies are’ with a laughing cackle.
How can she not be a weirdo who’s making everything up! 😡 … she also freaked out my lads colleagues,

You believe this woman can see white blood cells, do you? Christ.

BigglyBee · 04/11/2022 08:15

Oh, I just remembered my "psychic" experience! I was in a high dependency unit for the last month or so of my third pregnancy (because the previous baby had died and there were concerns about this one) and the woman in the bed next to me kept banging on about her psychic powers and how my mother had a message for me. Apparently, it was too sensitive and personal for me to hear it in hospital, but she wrote down her phone number so I could call her at a later date.

She was on some fairly heavy-duty medication, so I didn't think it was fair to tell her that my mother was not actually dead. And no, I never called her.

EndlessMagpies · 04/11/2022 14:13

Vanillapeach · 03/11/2022 17:44

How could she ‘see a problem’ with my DS’s driving?

How should I know, I'm not psychic. All I was saying was that when it comes to health, some people do seem to have an innate sense of something being wrong. Maybe if she thought he was unwell, then she could have been concerned that he might have a funny turn while driving. I don't think she meant he was a bad driver. But who knows - it is all guesswork.

UnstableCarHouse · 04/11/2022 14:18

It’s all total and utter bollocks.

If your husband is concerned he should get a health check done by a doctor.

If she carries on pestering him, he should tell her, in clear terms, that whilst she means well, it’s not appreciated or wanted.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/11/2022 14:18

‘oh I know what’s wrong with you’, as she took his palm and added, ‘it’s your white blood cells because you’ve got all these white dots’

She needs to go and work for the NHS, she'll save them a shedload of time and money not having to do blood tests and the like if she can diagnose people by looking at their palms.

Yep. It’s called playing the long game.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/11/2022 14:26

So do I. They're called cemeteries. Whoop, I'm a psychic.

xogossipgirlxo · 04/11/2022 14:50

She doesn't want money, I would not call her scam. When my husband was a kid, gypsy decided to take reading from his hand. Why would she do it for free for kid if she was a fraud? She had no interest in it and obviously she knew he won't have money to pay for it!

Probably so he could tell others and generate some custom for her with paying customers.

maybe I don’t have this much faith in kids😂 He didn’t bring her any new customers though. He was too scared to tell anyone. He only told me and it was almost 30 years ago. I will tell you in 30 years if reading was accurate. Might be interesting.

Mentalpiece · 04/11/2022 15:48

If someone could direct me to a psychic who can give me the winning euromillions numbers, I'd be ever so grateful.

1982mommaof4 · 05/11/2022 00:33

I'd be phoning my GP asap 😬😬🫣
