Just realised I have been sat like this for the past twenty minutes.

AIBU to be abit pi*sed off that one in particular can afford to spend £300 on designer clothes for her baby while saying that its worthwhile because they wont mess them up, when thats about the amount I spend on DC AND myself in a year.

no freekin wonder her daughter couldn't get far enough away esp after she asked her to leave wee harry with her. creepy

viggoswife · 30/01/2008 22:55

Oh Olihan No No No No NOOOOOOOO! Just when I thought it couldnt get any worse. If I was before then I am now. I promise you when I looked at those pictures of the "toddler" a shiver went down my spine. I just find it really creepy now to be honest. I am sure there is something more going on under the surface with that woman - like she has supressed her maternal urges ruthlessly or something and this is how it has come out. All the effort that has gone into dressing and grooming that doll. Also what must her OWN mother be thinking? I would find something like this very hard to go along with I think.

Her daughter battles cancer for 2 years. Their granson nearly lost his mummy.
Mummy is in remission and has the chance of a new life in a country with wide open spaces, clean air, in other words the best place for her health. She probably spent months terrified that she would not see her son grow up.
What a very selfish woman she is.

Did anyone else snigger at the children playing with the reborns' body parts ?

I'm going to get my MIL one of these dolls. Then she can be a mummy all over again just like she's always wanted.

cherryredretrochick · 31/01/2008 10:06

Ok so they had a car seat, Well that wasn't very safe it was a stage 2 car seat, I thought it was supposed to be a newborn. They are just irresponsible.

I think it would be fun to have one. You could do stuff like drive along with it strapped to the roof-rack or have it's head poking out of a plastic carrier bag, and watch as hysterical passers by phone social services.

Hi, I would like to introduce myself, I have 5 reborn babies (cost over £6000 not including clothes - and all have carseats!) I have two grown up girls 15 and 18 and yes I do have maternal insticts but did not want 5 children! I have been happily married for 20 years, have two dogs, I consider myself happy and normal I do not "treat them as babies" but the same as my Mohair Steiff Bears and expensive porcelain dolls. The car seats are to protect and display them, as they are designer works of art - not different to expensive hand made sculptures, I just wanted to add "all that you see on TV is not always TRUE" kind regards, Angela

If the object does actually fill that need then it is worth while.
Does it lovebabes? I have looked at these dolls on ebay and thought I could fancy making one from scratch, I can see the appeal of making it yourself just not of buying one IYSWIM.
Also I think you are very brave to post on here, good on you, every discussion needs different sides to be interesting.

lovebabes · 31/01/2008 12:34

Hi, Trolleydolly, I remember staying at home with my two beautiful girls as the most rewarding hard work that I have ever done! as for the emtional need - its lovely to get something new - shoes, car, painting, A well done baby doll is so beautiful to look at, (as are sleeping babies IYKWIM) I have spent considerably less than my hubby changing cars over the years! I do not see them as "real" I see them as beautiful works of art, and Cherryredtrochick thankyou for your kind words, Yes, there is money to be made if you are artistic enough! a recent well done "reborn" by a well known artist reached a whopping £8100 at ebay auction. when my children were small I stayed at home and made handmade Mohair Bears,(while they slept in the afternoon which I luckily sold, so "reborning" is a good little stay at home hobby too. For anyone interested in the other side of the debate perhaps Go to "Reborn Angels" a friendly forum of kind doll lovers from all over the world, Kind Regards, Angela

Didn't see the programme but after reading this thread in utter I went and found a trailer for it on the Channel 4 website (here). When I opened the page there happened to be an advert for the next Brass Eye overlapping the trailer and I seriously, seriously thought we'd all been had in one gigantic wind-up operation. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to the case... I just feel very sad for these women.

And that woman going round the supermarket asking people if they wanted to BUY A BABY?????
