If it’s a canapé buffet instead of a meal at a wedding then how many canapés would you want? Wedding is at 7pm

thank you

How many guests?

VictoriaBun · 13/01/2023 16:01

I thought you were about to say whilst photos etc were being taken ,so 30-40 minutes before sit down , I would have answered 4 - 6 .
if you don't want to provide a buffet , how about a pizza van , fish n chips or something like that ?

You say most are getting together out for late lunch or early dinner before the ceremony

a) I’d want to join them and be with them!
b) after eating, drinking, getting together with friends / family night not regularly see over food and wine… It will seem like a bit of a Debbie downer to attend a marriage ceremony
c) some will be tipsy!

I understand. Personally, I could join any of them but I don’t want to. I am spending the day with one friend and looking forward to it.

debbbie downer to a attend wedding ceremony?! Really???? No one is forced to attend.

i hope everyone is tipsy. It’s a day for celebration! I certainly will be

You’re drinking, you’re chatting, catching up, getting in the mood…

and then off to a ceremony (in a church?), will there be photos?

id just want to carry on with dinner and drinks!

and for family and friends to be getting together eating and drinking without the bride and groom present seems sad. People will be toasting you… without you there.

I reckon you are taking the risk with the fun party of the day taking place before you’re married and without you there!

And how could you join them? In your wedding dress before you get married?

Were happy with that. Firstly, not all 80 people will be getting together for meal or drinks and we think it is absolutely lovely that some of our guests will get together beforehand. then we can all party together in the cocktail bar until 1am. It’s perfect for us and our friends and family are super excited.

Enjoy OP!!

It would have been helpful for you on this thread if more posters shared the view of your 80 family and friends, but perhaps this thread isn’t at all representative of your 80 familyand friend

I’m just not very precious about seeing people on the day before the wedding. Originally I was going to invite everyone to my hotel bar for a drink before the ceremony but decided against this due to me needing to then be ready a lot earlier than needed. Our wedding is very “us”. Informal and party atmosphere. No speeches, no first dance, no official cutting of cake, evening ceremony, no bridesmaids or groomsmen, we’re arriving together and walking down aisle together.
weddings are not all about how much you get fed but about the two people making the commitment. If someone is going to feel deprived due to not being fed a standard meal for one evening they probably don’t care enough about us to come to the wedding. In my opinion.

On the “day before your wedding”? I’m referring to the actual day of your wedding… when family and friends are enjoying lunch or early dinner together without you and the bride of groom immediately before your wedding

but works for you, and that’s what’s important

Namechangedfeb22 · 13/01/2023 16:43

Sorry, that’s what I meant too I just didn’t use the right grammar!

I guess we just feel like the whole day isn’t about us. The ceremony is. So the guests can do what they want beforehand and We hope they have a wonderful time

it isn’t the quantity of food that doesn’t appeal to me with your approach. It’s the fact that sitting down with family and friends post ceremony for a meal is my favourite time! Both when I was a bride (we had 40 guests, no photos, 5pm ceremony) and the evening dinner was just utterly wonderful. So much laughing, the speeches still make me smile.

and as a guest…. I bloody love them. That sitting down with loved one and friends and talking about the ceremony, the bridge and groom and…. Absolutely nothing to do with them. Listening to the speeches etc.

but obviously not something you enjoy and it’s your wedding so…

@Ursuala

I think OP meant "on the day, before the wedding" as in on the day of the wedding but before the actual ceremony.

Namechangedfeb22 · 13/01/2023 16:50

Don’t get me wrong, when I’m invited to other peoples weddings and they do the traditional sit down meal it’s nice. It’s just not how we wanted our wedding to be. It’s not about cutting costs, it’s just what we wanted. A lovely city ceremony and then a fun party.

You are delivering exactly what you want and that is so important. Also saves you a packet to splurge on honeymoon, home, savings! So enjoy

It’s completely fine as a concept if that’s how you wish it to be and especially as you mentioned it on the invites, my message about adding a pizza van for ex would be more for peace of mind, if people are dancing and enjoying cocktails until 1am, even if the finger food sharing goes perfectly they might appreciate something like that later into the evening for example ? That way you still keep your concept, it’s just a side. It’s just a suggestion though !
