Vomiting blood-34 weeks pregnant

WellFuck3 · 30/10/2022 21:48

NC. Posting for traffic! Now OBVIOUSLY 111/A&E is what I should be doing, I’m 34 weeks pregnant, felt awful the last few days just tired/drained/nauseous. Tonight I was laying in bed getting DD to sleep when I just knew I was going to vomit, just about made it to the bathroom in time and it was pure bright red blood and a lot of it🤢 still feel sick but not being sick, headache. Also freaking out as I’m on clexane but admittedly forget to take it some days, in fact all of last week I took it once when I remembered (I know). Although I HATE taking it as it gives me nosebleeds and have bleeding coming out my ears when I take it (been to pregnancy assessment unit about that, the haematologist said it was fine to continue taking them).
But here is my dilemma! I have 5 young children here all asleep, my go to’s are DH and my mum, DH is away with work for the week, DM is 7 hours away visiting family, I live rural without a neighbour for miles, and no one else I could call! Wtf do I do? Could it of been a one off from the strain of vomiting causing the bleed? Also don’t particularly want my children to wake up and find me dead…
I basically need someone to tell me I am going to be fine until tomorrow when I can ask DH or DM if it’s possible to travel back so I can be seen.. please🙏🏼

Definitely sounds like a review in A&E is appropriate, anticoag use and the blood you describe could be quite a nasty ulcer.

I would suggest though that if you're currently walking around the house/not feeling dizzy or about to collapse in a sweaty puddle would you be better just heading to A&E by taxi? Just being logical about it, you're going to hospital because you're concerned about a heavy uncontrolled bleed in your stomach. If that is what is happening why on earth would you want to sit waiting 1-2 hours extra before getting on the way to hospital?

In this instance there isn't any treatment an ambulance crew could provide, they won't be able to give you any drugs to stop bleeding or reduce the acid in your stomach, and the only fluid to give IV if your blood pressure was low is one that dilutes your clotting factors and increases acidaemia - basically could be very bad for you.

I was working today on he ambulance and in my area the 1-2 hours delay the call takes read off the script as the eta for cat2 jobs (which yours probably is) has been 6-8 hours, then 3 hours to hand over into the hospital if you're unwell - (low blood pressure, tachycardia, actively vomiting blood). However if you're obs are normal then you're just taken into the normal reception for you to book in as normal and we don't do any handover with hospital staff. Hopefully your area isnt so bad/busy, but i'll give you the same council I'd give to any friend or family member, if you think you're having a life threatening emergency, but are able for someone to get you to the hospital to do so as in most cases you'll arrive and be seen by hospital staff several hours earlier then you would have done by using the ambulance service.

I'd have come round if you'd joined me so you did the right thing. Take care

Hope you’re ok!! Just one thing to check with the medical professionals. I was on therapeutic clexane during my pregnancy but unfortunately they calculated it on my pregnancy weight rather than my pre pregnancy weight, which means they’ve overdosed me by quite a lot and led to massive internal bleeding. So it’s worth questioning/ double checking your dosage and which weight they’ve based it on.

Pieceofpurplesky · 31/10/2022 00:56

Hope you get seen soon OP

Thank you everyone. Not much to update I’ve had IV fluids and a quick scan of baby, he seems to be doing well thank god! I think they’re arranging a camera down the throat, still vomiting pure red blood, am absolutely exhausted! Will update when I’m any wiser as to what could be going on! Thank you all again really appreciate the well wishes!
