...putting your hand in a sink of old, cold, greasy washing up water to pull the plug out. Shudder.

Closely followed by having to pull the plug out of someone else's, old, cold bath water.

3 days ago I woke up and found blood on my face, washed it to see where it had come from, couldn't find any cuts or anything.

Went back through to my room to find a massive, squashed spider on my pillow. I had clearly rolled over and squashed it in the night WITH MY FACE.

I would rather bathe in a greasy cold sink of yuck than go through that again 🤢🤣

I don't think I will ever sleep again!

Taillighttoobright · 30/10/2022 16:23

This is so true. It is somehow worse than unblocking a toilet with hosepipe, or getting your hand in there avec le Harpic to scrape off the limescale accumulation from the very bottom.
Is it the thought of cold grease? I think it's the cold grease.

Latenightreader · 30/10/2022 16:25

I once went to pick up a courgette from the vegetable rack and my fingers went straight through it. 20+ years on the memory of the texture still makes me shudder.

I hate, hate, hate cleaning the kitchen sink trap after I’ve washed up. The little metal grid is covered in so much yuck.

Isn't this why we have washing up bowls?

Ah, but every member of my family insists on leaving the washing up sponge in the washing up bowl and then it all goes merrily, greasily cold together. To stop the drippy 'splop' of the sponge upon emptying the water, I have to brave the handling of the bastard.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/10/2022 16:27

I'll raise you doing this to find that the other person doesn't scrape the plates off before immersing them in cold water so you have to remove bits of bread, pasta, rice and vegetables from where they're blocking the sink before it'll drain.

See also cleaning the dishwasher filter.

Or (shudders at the memory) the skanky lodger who would shave in the shower room, apparently without actually washing because it would flood due to the results blocking the drain - and you only find this out after they moved on and unscrew the cover to find festering body hair blocking the entire thing.

Knittedfairies · 30/10/2022 16:28

I'd take the cold, greasy washing-up water over scraping dog mess off shoes... That is properly disgusting.

IndiGlowie · 30/10/2022 16:28

CheezePleeze · 30/10/2022 16:02

Thinking the plughole is blocked with a bit of veg and pulling out a fat slug is marginally worse.

I'm still recovering from this morning's ordeal.

Leave the plug in the sink

Sellingstress · 30/10/2022 16:38

Usually when being guests at someone’s house with one bathroom and having the last shower of the morning. Tepid water underfoot in the shower tray. Hairs. Damp shower mat. Nothing feels ‘clean’. Personal hatred. I’d stick my hand down a sink of cold, dirty water over that.

Justcannot · 30/10/2022 16:41

@CheezePleeze you will never recover from that ordeal. I'm sorry!

Changename5054 · 30/10/2022 16:42

No there are far worse things than that such as clearing up piles of sick by scooping them up for one

Tuilpmouse · 30/10/2022 16:42

Aquamarine1029 · 30/10/2022 16:18

I don't understand why you'd leave dirty water in the sink to begin with. Gross.

I don't understand why you'd even have dirty washing up water. 🤮🤢

Isn't that why dishwashers were invented?

Tuilpmouse · 30/10/2022 16:44

Why are you allowing you veg to go off? Haven't you heard of meal planning?

Is that a serious comment? Ive occasionally had veg go off well before it should do, for no apparent reason

Personal hate is fishing hair out of the shower trap when I've forgotten to do it for a couple of weeks and it's slimy...

Missing very slightly with the dog poo bag!

This ^^

Fgs, don't you have eyes? God gave you eyes for many things, one of which is to avoid stepping in dog poo! Besides, in my neighbourhood, we have a zero tolerance for dog foulers so that wouldn't happen.

In the good old days, actually took care and avoided mess - now all this lack of care and absent mindedness, it's an epidemic!

  1. I use a washing up bowl
  2. I use washing up gloves

Not in the spirit of the site

Once found a huge slug in the toe of my wellies. Fortunately, I'd noticed the slime trail, then found the slug, before putting them on, but it was gross.

Someone I knew woke in the night to find a big moth sitting on her tongue and gummed it a bit before figuring out what it was 😳

someone else might have left it

Tuilpmouse · 30/10/2022 16:57

Sorry everyone, my comments aren't to be taken seriously... I get riled up because there's always someone on threads like these who respond in an absurdly prim and proper way such as then poster who "can't believe you actually allow dirty sink water ever to stand!" and just wanted to up the ante for the hell of it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/10/2022 16:57

@Usingthisone, I’d rather do either of your examples than stepping on a slug in bare feet. Or helping dh wash green, runny rotten dead seal off one of the dogs.

Userno63673673636 · 30/10/2022 17:00

This is one of my biggest icks too op. I always clean up and empty water, rinse bowl and clean around sink out etc but dh often leaves the water and then it goes all cold and the grease 😭

both my mother and mil do it. Mil had a bowl full of greasy water that had all separated then went it get a cup of water for the kids 🤢

orbitalcrisis · 30/10/2022 17:01

Treading on a slug whilst barefoot and it's guts firing out and hitting my leg. That was pretty gross!
