The hate the gift my DH bought

DH recently bought a huge inflatable armchair for the kids and it's caused me nothing but stress. There's been fights over who gets to use it and thrown around the house like a ball, I've had to move it out of the way from the stairs and doorways. The one time I packed it away it was just taken out again, blown up to a ludicrous size and DS blocked the valve with glue and tape.

I don't hate fun, and I like to think I can take a joke but the fact that that they've actually gone to the point of stopping me from packing it away feels like the last straw. DH doesn't seem to care, and I feel like I'm left cleaning up a mess he created

Be grateful he didn’t buy them several tubs of glitter. ;)

rabbitsy · 29/10/2022 13:28

5 and 9 y/o, I've already asked them to use a rounds system, he gets one round for an hour, then the next hour it's the others round, doesn't help when there's room enough for two to sit on it, or if another uses it while it's left alone and there's been plenty of hassle with the chair being left around the house, there really isn't any room for it as far as I'm concerned

Threads like this are one of thexreasons why I will never live with a partner again. This sounds so annoying.

How old are they? Could they keep it for a few days each in their bedrooms on a rota?

I wouldn't put up with them constantly arguing/fighting over anything. If they can’t play nicely it would be put away (with a pin!)

Echo this..Good idea

Backyard, windy night.

It’ll fly off to oz (like the castle themed pop up playhouse someone gifted my DD in 2015).

Sparkletastic · 29/10/2022 13:41

Kill the chair

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 29/10/2022 13:42

The glue and tape insubordination would have me puncturing it with a sharp knife. How dare he be so disrespectful?

jetadore · 29/10/2022 13:42

Fucking just burst it, do you really need to ask for advice off the internet for this? Put your big girl pants on first if it helps.

MistyFrequencies · 29/10/2022 13:45

I recently took to one similar with a very sharp knife. It was theraputic. Highly recommend.

SuperCamp · 29/10/2022 13:47

Oh god, that’s hideous!

They will tire of the novelty. They will puncture it soon enough.

cushioncovers · 29/10/2022 13:47

Either get another one or pop the one you have.

Herejustforthisone · 29/10/2022 13:47

Stab it.

SuSen · 29/10/2022 13:52

If it causes nothing but arguments, there's no room for it and it's getting thrown about the place, in my house it'd already be in the bin.

Why are you asking your 5 and 9 year olds?

Tell them if they fight over it, they lose their turns and to stop moving it around.

So true. Natural consequences. My dd does an activity 3 days a week. One day a week it’s a bit tight but doable in less time, however, she faffs and is always late. I told her if she continues, she won’t be continuing on that day. This has caused no end of arguments as she doesn’t care. Once I put that boundary in, she instantly agreed to be on time. We shall see…

Mari9999 · 29/10/2022 14:28

The novelty will wear off soon enough, and their interest will move on to something else. Depending upon their ages, you can sometimes reintroduce a toy or item that they have forgotten about, and that becomes the focus of the moment

He only bought it, your DC sharing seems to be the problem. Who’s in charge? You or your DC? Just take it away.

Alternatively, get them one each.

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/10/2022 14:37

I had a bright pink one in my 20’s. It was the only bit of ‘furniture’ that I had in my disgusting bedsit. A friend sat on it one day with his keys in his pocket. End of pink chair.
