Seriously what is wrong with the priorities of our country? Poor woman!

If treatments and surgery to alleviate similar levels of pain and distress are more accessible on the NHS to biological men than women, then surely there is a case to answer in relation to the equality act?

Livetoplay · 30/10/2022 09:25

That’s not actually true though, is it? Both are hard to get on the NHS and it varies from Trust to Trust whether they do it at all.
but sure, let’s get another trans thread going despite the fact this woman’s problems have nothing to do with that.

vivainsomnia · 30/10/2022 09:28

The only reason she won't have been approved is because of her weight. She's lost 5 stones which is amazing. She needs to keep going and she'll get the surgery.

@Bigtitsbetty said that re weight earlier on but it did not fit into the anti trans agenda so has so far been ignored.

Did have to laugh at you telling someone whose had a diagnosis for 22 years that 'losing weight is a big factor'.

As many women will tell you, it is often the only treatment we are offered and I suspect you don't understand the mechanisms of the condition if you can so blithely put it forward as a 'treatment' option for the hirsutism caused by it. And as for 'the only option for transwomen is laser hair removal', I mean, that's just not true, is it? Those of us with PCOS who have to deal with extensive facial hair due to the condition pluck, bleach or pay for laser hair removal ourselves.

If laser hair removal is considered so vital for the confidence and self image of transwomen that a national document has been produced to underline the necessity that they be offered laser hair removal on the NHS, it seems bizarre that similar hasn't been done for the 1 in 5 women who have PCOS. But then, it's a woman's health condition so unsurprising.

As an aside, I actually don't think that laser hair removal should be offered on the NHS for anyone given the current pressures on the NHS and the long waiting lists for life saving treatment.

Laser treatment is offered for women with PCOS

its even on the link YOU posted to try and reinforce your false narrative

I accept your point to a large extent, but to ignore the misogyny involved in helping men be what they categorically are not, before helping women be women, is wrong.

But they’re not being helped before anyone else

The average wait for GRS is LONGER than the average wait for breast reduction surgery

the woman this ‘article’ is about is over the weight threshold for the surgery, that’s why she is seeing a delay. That is nothing to do with prioritising anyone other than the health of those going under the knife

I have ovarian damage that makes me produce low progesterone and thus a lot of male pattern facial hair. I have to pay to have this removed: NHS does not give a shit.

If I was a man who wanted a natural healthy beard removed because I’d decided I felt I was a woman, the NHS would pay for 8 sessions of electrolysis (that costs me about £800).

The NHS has always put men’s wants above women’s needs and it seems it always will. 🤬

Identify as aman who wants to be a woman. Simple. You don't need anything other than a wish.

This bit? 'Laser removal of facial hair may be available on the NHS in some parts of the UK.' I'd love to know where. No where I've lived in Scotland or England has offered it for women with PCOS. Never been offered any of the medication listed either. However, laser facial hair removal for transwomen is offered at an NHS clinic less than 50 miles from where I live.

I've never been offered any kind of treatment actually.

And 'false narrative'? Mate, seriously.

Yes a false narrative

There are also many trusts where they don’t offer trans women anything, let alone laser treatment

You seem to be blaming the wrong people here and it’s a little sad.

Trans women aren’t prioritised, which was your original point. Those are facts

Ah tell that to @Waitwhat23

she wants cosmetic treatment on the NHS and is moaning about it quite a bit on here

Using an article in the Scum plus misinformation to bash trans ppl. Is that really how ppl spend their weekends around here.

Vile.

You actually have the sheer gall to talk about 'false narratives'? My post on this thread at 9.04 makes my position clear that I think other NHS treatments should be prioritised, particularly at the moment and as I've said in other posts, women with PCOS pluck, bleach or pay for laser hair removal themselves. It's the ridiculous (and predictable) double standards that women are just expected to get on with it while males are prioritised that I object to.

And again, the sheer gall of you talking about critical thinking!

It’s a hobby for many on here sadly

Worse than the daily mail comments section most of the time

Inequalities between NHS trusts has nothing to do with trans people. Instead of getting in a froth about them, why not direct your displeasure towards the people who make the rules? It would be a lot more constructive and more likely to prompt changes.

That’s why I was questioning it. If there is evidence of discrimination in contravention of the equality act, action could be taken to rectify the situation. But wait times for all sorts of consultations and procedures are really long now for anyone at my local NHS trust.
