Halloween costumes in work

I know someone who works in a pharmacy and they are all dressing up on Monday for Halloween. Now I don't know if I'm a big spoil sport here but if I went into the pharmacy to ask about medication for my dying relative or wanted advice about contraception and the staff were dressed as zombies or witches or something, then I would be pretty appalled. Is this on or not?!

It's perfectly fine.

ObiTwo · 27/10/2022 21:28

I think it’s funny, I’d love to go to a GP appointment and be greeted by Frankenstein or Michael Myers.

I'd happily discuss my verruca with a witch or any other of the standard Halloween characters. They'd have to be dressed as Harold Shipman or something for me to raise an eyebrow.

lannistunut · 27/10/2022 21:31

I think it's unusual for a pharmacy, but it wouldn't offend me. I find people dressing up for work weird full stop, they can just have a dressing up box at home.

😂😂😂 now that’s funny

Womencanlift · 27/10/2022 21:33

Appalled? Nope I wouldn’t think that at all, I would just think they are getting into the spirit of the day. If I had a dying relative I doubt it would even register with me what they were wearing or if it did I can’t see me being concerned as I would have other things on my mind

Strange thing to be appalled about

Namesahchanging · 27/10/2022 21:35

I've never been 1 to celebrate Halloween but this wouldn't bother me at all! Infact it would be quite comedic for me .

I had a retail position in a b and m type store where management said please dress up but don't feel obliged to. I put on my teens old Harry Potter cape and glasses, drew a z on my forehead and it was such a fun shift!

Honestly I know fuxk all about H.P but so many kids were excited by my appearance, also many teens and adults and no one was verbally or seemingly offended.

Sorry but I think YABU

fruktsoda · 27/10/2022 21:42

YABU. It's one day! I'd be annoyed if I felt they weren't taking my problem seriously or if they were gossiping about people's medical histories, but that can happen at anytime. A Halloween costume doesn't stop them from behaving professionally.

Revolvingwhore · 27/10/2022 21:44

I wouldn't say I'd be outraged but I do think work is for work and dressing up is not.

Bournetilly · 27/10/2022 21:45

Seriously! YABVU

LizzieVereker · 27/10/2022 21:47

I think it’s very unprofessional, particularly for a medical setting.

Angelofthenortheast · 27/10/2022 21:47

It would cheer me up! Whenever I've been really really depressed, seeing people do silly things like this and remembering that the world is still turning has always been a saviour!

ElizabethBest · 27/10/2022 21:47

If your relative is dying then I guarantee you won’t give a flying fuck what the pharmacist looks like.

PaisleyP · 27/10/2022 21:48

This is hilarious. Who ever just said about Michael Myers serving has done me in tonight. 😂

PinkiOcelot · 27/10/2022 21:50

I work in a care home and the day staff dress up in halloween

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 21:55

I see your point OP but I think a GP would be writing a prescription in those circumstances. So for the general good id say it's okay.

Yes, you are a spoilsport. Maybe it might cheer a sick child waiting for their medication up.

YouAndMeAndThem · 27/10/2022 22:01

I stand corrected! I am not a Halloween kinda gal at all and would be embarrassed if I were made to dress up. I work in a different medical setting and it would not be allowed there. Interesting to see everyone's points though.

LolaSmiles · 27/10/2022 22:06

I wouldn't be outraged or offended, but personally I find fancy dress at work to be a bit awkward and weird in most settings. It's not specific to Halloween.

Trees6 · 27/10/2022 22:09

I guess that the last two Halloweens have been a bit rubbish for people who like to
mark it, so maybe some folk will be going OTT this year. I also think that any kids who go into the pharmacy will enjoy seeing the costumes.
