Halloween costumes in work

I know someone who works in a pharmacy and they are all dressing up on Monday for Halloween. Now I don't know if I'm a big spoil sport here but if I went into the pharmacy to ask about medication for my dying relative or wanted advice about contraception and the staff were dressed as zombies or witches or something, then I would be pretty appalled. Is this on or not?!

I stand corrected! I am not a Halloween kinda gal at all and would be embarrassed if I were made to dress up. I work in a different medical setting and it would not be allowed there. Interesting to see everyone's points though.

Who is making anyone dress up?

Blocked · 27/10/2022 22:13

Sounds fab. I'd go as the grim reaper.

I'd happily discuss my verruca with a witch or any other of the standard Halloween characters. They'd have to be dressed as Harold Shipman or something for me to raise an eyebrow.

😂😂😂

Yabu.

But I am the type of person that would find it funny if I went into the pharmacy to collect meds and was served by the Grim Reaper. Especially if they were end of life meds !

forevercooking · 27/10/2022 22:35

Blimey some people are so miserable

Not made to per say but if everyone else is going big and I didn't join in or didn't get it right, id be really embarrassed. I would be embarrassed dressing up anyway but obviously I am in the minority! we just never DID Halloween where I grew up as much as they do these days.

Its performative rubbish I agree OP.

Stop.forcing Halloween into people's life's who aren't interested, it's bad enough you knock on doors

Shiningstarr · 27/10/2022 22:43

YABVU and miserable. It's called having fun.

Clevererthanyou · 27/10/2022 22:44

Totally off topic but all the staff in my local branch of Spar go for Halloween in a big way and it's a very cheery time, they do a raffle and give cakes etc to all the kiddies, it's lovely and had a real community feel. They even smile!

YouAndMeAndThem · 27/10/2022 22:48

See retail workers etc that doesn't seem to be the same. I think it's the fact it's a pharmacy that doesn't sit right some how! But I will be sure to remove the stick from my ass and maybe I'll go in and donate to their charity in support

I spoke to my GP while she was in a tutu. Not a costume, a pink tulle skirt. I didn't give a shit I jus wanted my prescription.

You don't have to agree with it.it's ok not to be ok with stuff even if other people are.

YABU
Do you feel as bitter when the staff wear Santa hats at xmas too?

ButterflyAi · 28/10/2022 00:46

It wouldn't bother me. What DOES bother me is seeing plastic severed hands and heads at eye-level for kids, with gruesome detail - really horrible and upsetting for many kids. I wish supermarkets would at least put them at adult eye level - not mixed in with the kids costumes.

Ericaequites · 28/10/2022 01:55

Grownups dressing up at work is not fun for most of us. I was in McDonald’s today and the employees were dressed up. Not everyone celebrates or appreciates Halloween.

Malfi · 28/10/2022 02:17

I think it’s completely inappropriate in a medical setting dealing with members of the public.

How on earth is that remotely the same thing?

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 28/10/2022 02:27

I don’t actually think dying people look like zombies so I wouldn’t be offended. Yay for them for getting excited enough about anything to make a effort. Having said that if my job required me to dress up at halloween I would probably find another place to work.

AWholePatchOfPumpkins · 28/10/2022 02:28

It’s a bit of fun for charity, I think it’s fine.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/10/2022 02:50

Well, if it's a pharmacy and I saw them dressed like that I would be tempted to go in and ask if they can recommend a linctus for my coffin!

AlwaysLatte · 28/10/2022 03:09

It wouldn't bother me. Now being stopped late at night by a policemen dressed as a clown with a machete would though!

whiteroseredrose · 28/10/2022 05:41

I'd think it was silly and unprofessional but it wouldn't upset me.

Suzi888 · 28/10/2022 05:49

1 I doubt it’s the pharmacist who is dressing up, as they’re generally the manager also. I doubt they would want to deal with a serious complaint dressed up as a witch or goblin.
2 YABU if you think you get advice from a chemist about medication for someone who is dying.

Sceptre86 · 28/10/2022 06:20

I'd be interested to know where they work. We get to wear Christmas jumpers and that's about it in terms of dressing up.

Tlolljs · 28/10/2022 06:27

I wouldn’t like it either. But then I don’t like dressing up.
Banks too seem off somehow. All the red nose shit winds me up as well.
