We've booked our Christmas do at work. And discovered that it's a two course dinner. (Fine) but it soup and not pudding!! I mean why wouldn't you offer pudding instead of soup. (Lighthearted before anyone whinges)

Take massive cake with candles and make a BIG fuss

muchprefersummer · 27/10/2022 19:07

I'd cancel! No way would I want soup rather than pudding!!

wearethetiny · 27/10/2022 19:07

Nope, no, just no way! I've been living on soup whilst doing slimming world for the last umpteen months - I can tell you now that murder would be committed if some wee lad set down a bowl of soup in front of me on my Christmas night out! Away out of my sight and roll me in the bowl full of sugar that I've been waiting on

Pretend it’s someone’s birthday and take a Christmas Colin caterpillar along for pudding.

That has been suggested!

Take along a big tin of quality street and put them on the table as dessert is not served, make yourself the most popular person in the office.

Runnerduck34 · 27/10/2022 19:12

Yanbu!! Pudding is the best bit!

vincettenoir · 27/10/2022 19:12

YNBU. Ours is 2 or 3 courses. I’m going for 2 courses, just main and pud. I love wintery desserts and eat more desserts this time of year.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/10/2022 19:13

I'd definitely prefer starter and main over main and pudding BUT I dislike soup

CeeJay81 · 27/10/2022 19:14

If there's no mince pies and coffee afterwards, I'd have to bring a bag of fudge in my handbag or something. That's just criminal not to offer dessert.

catmothertes1 · 27/10/2022 19:17

OneDayAtATimePlease · 27/10/2022 18:36

YANBU deal breaker for me, if I'm going out for food I want a decadent pudding! (I don't eat out often)

Same.

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/10/2022 19:18

Raise a grievance.
Phone ACAS.
Start looking for a new job.

The party organiser should be sacked.

RandomMess · 27/10/2022 19:20

@MrsMoastyToasty 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

BMWfries · 27/10/2022 19:22

McFlurry on the way home then

Rebelmcstreettuff · 27/10/2022 19:27

Fuck that!
Always have main and a pudding if eating out.

Bring a box of celebrations for the table, but then you'll probably have one greedy bugger who eats all the malteasers.😀

I think you must be going to the same place that we’re having ours because I’ve said exactly the same thing!

Dibbydoos · 27/10/2022 19:34

My work isn't arranging a Christmas anything this year! Wtf. I'd take a soup starter if I had the chance.🤣🤣🤣

Good job I leave at end Nov then cos I'm arranging my leaving do in Leicester of a Christmas do 😉

Blocked · 27/10/2022 19:37

Is it one of those big Christmas party nights at a hotel where they serve hundreds of people at a time, like weddings? If so, the puddings are always horrible anyway. Little plates of mini dry meringues and wobbly squares of cheesecake.

Pixiedust1234 · 27/10/2022 19:38

😂😂😂

HarrietSchulenberg · 27/10/2022 19:40

They will offer you a dessert menu at the end so you can pay even more money for the pleasure of finishing your dinner properly. Veg soup costs pence to make, much less than a pud, so they're palming you off with a cheap 2 course deal, safe in the knowledge that you'll fork out full price for their menu dessert aswell.
I think the "pretend it's a birthday and bring your own cake" idea is a good one here.

CarefreeMe · 27/10/2022 20:11

Honestly I think me and my colleagues would decide to book somewhere else instead!

I’d be ringing them and asking if they can swap the soup for a dessert and if not you’ll be going elsewhere.

@MrsMoastyToasty the organiser is one of the nicest people you could ever meet!! The RCN have more important fish to fry at the moment apparently.

@Wam90 it's a 999 night at a well known hotel chain. Last time we did it it was £10 for three courses. This time it's £20 for 2. If there was a pudding option I'd have no issue with that.

OP posts:
mackthepony · 27/10/2022 20:21

Not cool.

Options should be :

Christmas pud and cream /ice-cream /custard

Mince pie and cream or brandy butter

Sticky toffee and custard

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2022 21:38

Oooo sticky toffee pudding
