To wonder why people post dickish comments on FB adverts

I have my own business and I do beauty (specifically microblading and semi permanent make up)

I pay out a fair amount out for Facebook and Instagram advertising

However I'm getting sick of the negative comments. If people aren't interested in what I do then that's obviously fine, not everyone will want to have the treatments I do. But I don't get why some people actually go out of their way to post stuff like this and try and drag small businesses down especially in this climate. It's spiteful

It's not just me ...I see it on other business ads and posts as well. Just so unnecessary. I try not to rise to it but it really pisses me off

I have the same thing. Smart arse comments for no reason. Ads bring in so many sales though that I just take it as one of those things. I never engage and usually just delete them tbh. Don't give them headspace.

Keyansier · 26/10/2022 10:42

YABU. Just because you pay for advertising doesn't mean that you should only expect and be guaranteed positive remarks on a public forum like Facebook. If you want advertising without comment, then turn the feature off or advertise elsewhere.

VapeVamp12 · 26/10/2022 10:45

I don't advertise my own business on FB but I agree with you, whenever someone is selling something there is nearly always a dickish comment.

yerdaindicatesonbends · 26/10/2022 10:46

People for the life of them cannot keep there opinion to themselves these days. I’ll be honest I often get a chuckle when Joan comments on a multi million companies ad saying something like ‘I think xyz is horrible/ugly! Change it!!!’.

PlatinumBrunette · 26/10/2022 10:46

Because they’re dicks. You dealt with that one well, generally never attack them back, never delete them, make your responses funny and they’ll all help boost your ad with their comments 😉

saraclara · 26/10/2022 10:49

Facebook is interactive, so it's a risk you take when you advertise there. Stick to a different type of advertising if you don't want comments. Or turn comments off if that's an option.

Fairyliz · 26/10/2022 10:49

Yes I would go for the funny replies too. You will gain the upper hand and hopefully more publicly and clients.

tirednewmumm · 26/10/2022 11:27

It's really odd isn't it! I've seen some adverts for stuff that is totally not my taste and do wonder who would want that item etc but I would never dream of posting!! Some people would probably hate some of my stuff but I wouldn't expect them to comment lol very odd behaviour

thelobsterquadrille · 26/10/2022 11:35

Well, this is all part of running a business really - you're never going to get 100% agreement no matter what you do.

I assume the adverts get you a decent amount of custom otherwise you wouldn't keep paying, so I'd just ignore the negative comments.

ParentallyUnprepared · 26/10/2022 11:37

I want to get microblading but I'm scared it'll look too harsh on my ridiculously pale face.

Not the point of the thread, I know.

Propagandalf · 26/10/2022 12:00

I block adverts and sponsored posts on Facebook using a Greasemonkey script. I do this because they get in the way.

The people involved here ABU for browsing Facebook with adverts.

I find averts more effective on Google's platform because you're searching for something that you're after and you'll get sponsored results near the top.

How can it possibly be unreasonable to have the adverts? What a strange view, you do you and everyone else will do them.

I agree about stupid comments, it's not only on adverts, they are everywhere and almost exclusively posted by men. I wonder if they realise that it makes them look like massive knobs

sayanythingelse · 26/10/2022 12:13

It's most likely the same people who comment on a post about a celebrity dying saying "never heard of them". If you don't have anything worthy to add to the conversation, just move along Barbara.

ChagSameachDoreen · 26/10/2022 12:32

People are just sick of being sold to.

Squishedstormtrooper · 26/10/2022 12:38

I quite enjoy the snarky comments on ads. If the company has written a witty response to them they also go up in my opinion of them. I’m more likely to engage with a company that responds to all the comments in their ads than one that deletes them or ignores. Quite often I am thinking the comment myself but would never post it- if you can do a good enough response then I would potentially change my mind. Your reply above would make me roll my eyes and move on though…

MavisChunch29 · 26/10/2022 12:42

Some of the comments are justified. Lots are asking reasonable questions about the service. Perhaps if Facebook didn't make two out of every three posts ads then people would skim past them more.

Aussiegirl123456 · 26/10/2022 12:45

I like your response. I like it when businesses leave their negative comments on their ads and respond to them in witty ways.

Some people I guess are just morons. I’ve seen obituary posts where people have left awful remarks. So sad.

AquaticSewingMachine · 26/10/2022 12:46

Neither of the comments you posted are really that dickish. Neither is actually insulting. 6oh would have been better to respond in good humour, or just let them slide off.

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 26/10/2022 12:49

Yeah it's really sad where we live, it's a small town with lots of independent businesses. The things that (also local) people post underneath their posts are horrendous. If they've nothing nice to say, they should just keep scrolling!

imagiantwitch · 26/10/2022 12:50

Think your response makes you sound like an arse to be honest. They asked a question very politely. You could have answered properly instead of defensively.

Chucklefuck · 26/10/2022 12:51

Didn't you post this exact thread a week or so ago?

BeardieWeirdie · 26/10/2022 13:07

I correct ads that use the word “people” instead of “women”.

But been meaning to repost so thought I'd do so today

Because your business is perpetuating the harmful idea that women are not acceptable the way the are. These people are unlikely to seek you out to tell you that IRL but when it comes up in their social media feeds they are allowed to comment their opinions.
