To wonder why people post dickish comments on FB adverts

interstatelovesong · 26/10/2022 10:38

I have my own business and I do beauty (specifically microblading and semi permanent make up)

I pay out a fair amount out for Facebook and Instagram advertising

However I'm getting sick of the negative comments. If people aren't interested in what I do then that's obviously fine, not everyone will want to have the treatments I do. But I don't get why some people actually go out of their way to post stuff like this and try and drag small businesses down especially in this climate. It's spiteful

It's not just me ...I see it on other business ads and posts as well. Just so unnecessary. I try not to rise to it but it really pisses me off

Yeah it's really sad where we live, it's a small town with lots of independent businesses. The things that (also local) people post underneath their posts are horrendous. If they've nothing nice to say, they should just keep scrolling!

This is the kind of thing I mean. there's just no need is there 😞

If you have unwanted adverts continually clogging up your FB feed then I think you have (one has) the right to comment on them. Not that I ever have, but if something I didn't actively seek out makes it's way onto my phone or computer then I consider it absolutely fine to comment - even if it's a product I'm not interested in.

It's a bit of an own goal from the algorithm perspective, though. All it knows is that you interacted with an ad for an aesthetician, therefore you're probably interested in beauty and aesthetic treatments, so it'll serve you up some more.

interstatelovesong · 26/10/2022 14:14

@AquaticSewingMachine yes that is exactly what happens

To those who dislike sales ads they aren't interested in the best thing is to click hide and then fb learns what you don't want to see

It's most likely the same people who comment on a post about a celebrity dying saying "never heard of them". If you don't have anything worthy to add to the conversation, just move along Barbara.

Hahahaha at "move along Barbara" 😆 exactly

I want to get microblading but I'm scared it'll look too harsh on my ridiculously pale face.

Not the point of the thread, I know.

It won't do if your artist uses the correct shade for you and the best method

It can look extremely natural even on the lightest skin. But do be careful as some artists can be heavy handed and I think these are the types of brows that put people off which I totally understand

Pm me if you'd like to chat more. X

ignore those comments. Any time I see a business owner snarking back on Facebook I cringe because it makes them look so unprofessional and therefore not someone most people would want to deal with

Derbee · 26/10/2022 14:21

I don’t understand why you didn’t just answer that question, rather than the bitchy, passive aggressive response you wrote?

You could have taken it as a genuine question, and provided an answer which shows the benefit of your business.

You’re not better than the people you’re complaining about?

TugboatAnnie · 26/10/2022 14:23

imagiantwitch · 26/10/2022 12:50

Think your response makes you sound like an arse to be honest. They asked a question very politely. You could have answered properly instead of defensively.

I agree. And pp saying it was a good response! Weird.

JanetSally · 26/10/2022 14:23

Some people just cannot keep themselves out of anything. Even if they have no interest in a topic, or can't answer a question someone posted, on they come with their childish, rude or aggressive comments.

You see it on here all the time.

interstatelovesong · 26/10/2022 15:38

It's almost always men that do it

And similar dick men post shit on my friends ads with Botox / aesthetics clinics

It's like they get really triggered by anything beauty / aesthetics

One of my friends who does Botox posted something like " I probably earn more in one morning doing Botox than you do in a week so wind ya neck in Simon"

It was so funny to see as loads of people liked her comment. but I wouldn't do anything that harsh on my own ads 😬

OP posts:
OoooohMatron · 26/10/2022 15:43

Because they're dicks basically. Social media gives them a platform to spout their stupidity and nastiness. Just block and ignore, don't lower yourself by reacting.

embarrassing

interstatelovesong · 26/10/2022 21:53

@healme

sorry, which bit of that do you find embarrassing? That a random man would go out of his way to try drag a woman's business down who's just trying to make a living?

Or that that woman dared stand up for herself and give him some back ?

I know which part I find the most embarrassing.

it’s embarrassing to act so unprofessionally when the smart thing to do would be to ignore comments that make the poster look stupid. but it’s your business, present yourself as immature and passive aggressive if you want, it’s not my mortgage you’re trying to pay

Sleepyquest · 27/10/2022 11:04

My husband gets this all the time. Annoys him so much. It seems to be a certain age demographic and they'll write 'not interested' or 'this is photoshopped' or any old rubbish really.
It's really tedious!

Sleepyquest · 27/10/2022 11:06

ChagSameachDoreen · 26/10/2022 12:32

People are just sick of being sold to.

Then they need to delete all social media because it's all advertising

PotentiallyPolly · 27/10/2022 11:10

I’m actually really curious why someone would do this too, what’s the point? Why do I suddenly need to be worrying about my eyebrows now? I’ve never had them done before but everyone else is getting theirs done so I feel ungroomed. Not enough to fork out for ridiculously expensive and painful treatment though, I rate micro blading the same as I do lip fillers.

I’d find it embarrassing that a business owner (presumably you’re an adult?) is so immature that they’re fighting on social media with random members of the public.

If you can’t explain your business, and advertise, then you’re doing something wrong. People commenting may not like this whole fake looking micro blading/filler/tattooed eyebrows etc and have a right to feel like that. They might think it’s distasteful to make your living from exploiting peoples insecurities? Again, you’re all entitled to your own opinions. But you should concentrate on your business and your customers rather than immature fights with randomers.

Because ultimately, it reflects badly on you. Nobody will remember the name of the random man who comments. They will however remember the name of a business that is run by a petty immature social media fighter, throwing silly insults around.

AnonWeeMouse · 27/10/2022 11:25

Why do people assume Facebook, Twitter, Forums etc are private and will only get positive reactions?

Imagine, instead, that you're in the middle of a shopping centre and you're yelling about microblading through a megaphone at everyone... you think you'd get naught but positivity? Doubtful.

BigDayToday · 27/10/2022 11:36

I think I, like many people, do an internal eye roll when I see dickish comment on a business I might be interested in. It's the owner's responses - if any - I judge (and most of the responses I see do them no favours).

That's your choice , it's not for everyone 😊

Why would you think that you "need to" worry about your brows ? I don't think anyone has said you do.

Lol 😆

I don't think I said I only expect positive comments?

Not everyone will be interested in or need every business and that's fine

I just think it's dickish when folk go out of their way to be negative ...why not just scroll by ? And that's my point

There's plenty of stuff I see advertised that I don't like. but I don't comment because I'm not spiteful and I understand that it is another human beings living

On my local FB pages it's people replying to market price house sales or rentals. So a semi is typically 600k and up so you can imagine the rent. Lots of comments like "good luck with that price! I will give you 300pm tops rent for your detached 4 bed with a drive"

To me they are boasting about being thick and skint. Yes I judge. If you can't offord it why even look forget comment? They seem to think you will come back begging for their under 50% offer when no one else wants the service.
