A labroder could kill me fairly easily. My cocker spaniel couldnt but could kill my dd.

How do you know the rottweiler was trained fully? Or are you just making assumptions about it?

Alambil · 28/01/2008 20:29

Grow up Quattro - we were having a totally sensible conversation before

Quattrocento · 28/01/2008 20:31

Hercules, you are the experienced dog owner on this thread. How can an unarmed mother drown two fully grown rottweilers without getting savaged and without anyone noticing?

I would have felt scared (very) YANBU

hercules1 · 28/01/2008 20:32

HAve they realised detail yet of why the dog did it and how well the dog was trained? If you want proof then perhaps you could offer proof for this too.

I do think it's a bit naive to assume that the only deaths this recent year from dogs are the 3 cases of teh rottweiler in the news. DOgs have been around for many years and no of course I dont have proof and frankly cant be arsed to look for it, but I think it's a safe bet to assume other breeds apart from rottweilers have been responsible for killing.

Alambil · 28/01/2008 20:33

Labrador Kills 9yr old Boy - why wasn't that major news?? Because it wasn't a "big/dangerous" dog I'll bet

Alambil · 28/01/2008 20:34

oops got the link mixed - dog got killed after seriously injuring child; still the following comment stands though

hercules1 · 28/01/2008 20:34

Hmm, not sure quantro. I have a family member who has a soddin vicious gd and we never visit their house. If you find the answer let me know.

Gawd, children are far worse behaved than dogs.

Quattrocento · 28/01/2008 20:34

GOodness, Dittany. WOuld you really bet money on dogs killing people in a fight That's awful. How can you trivialise such a thing

Or have I just completely misunderstood your meaning...

hercules1 · 28/01/2008 20:38

Yes, I completely agree. It's a breed to avoid.

Alambil · 28/01/2008 20:38

I SAID I got mixed up - Bloody hell can't someone make a mistake?!!!

hercules1 · 28/01/2008 20:39

People can have untrained dogs for 10 years. It also could have been a brain tumour etc.

My relation who has a very vicious german shepherd (dog is 8 years old) have managed to get the dog to this age without it killing someone by simply not taking it out of the house. Kids have been to hospital a few times though.

No, my reactions to both are different too. But I think you didn't bother reading those parts of my posts.

Alambil · 28/01/2008 20:45

but they should be dittany; they truly should be.

Just because a dog is smaller doesn't mean it shouldn't be taken with the same caution/fear as a big dog... honestly.

Any dog can kill - ANY dog. All dogs are still 89% wild wolf; even a pug

winestein · 28/01/2008 20:47

I was talking to my dog's vet the other week and we came on to the subject of Rotties. He said that they are no longer the breed "of choice" (IYKWIM) and as such, the numbers of aggressive Rotties are dwindling. With responsible owners who fully understand the breed they make wonderful companions - but you need the owner to make the dog. My dog knows 2 Rotties, both of whom he adores - and I quite like their owners too.

I can see the connection

Dittany, just because you havent heard of such an event happening it doesn't actually mean it hasn't.

hercules1 · 28/01/2008 20:57

sorry to disprove you
