I know it's all in the news but ambulance wait times are ridiculous and I know it's mainly due to people in a&e not being moved onto a ward and ambulances not being able to move into a&e.
I am currently with someone with a dislocated hip and shoulder and we gave been waiting 12hrs. The pain is getting unbearable and I am struggling to reassure and calm and know what to do. They are saying that they have people in same catogory waiting longer to.
I feel bad for the person I'm with but can't help to think people who aren't sat inside or are on there own. I don't know what the answer is but something neeeds to change

Wow didn't expect this many replies !
The ambulance arrived at 6 this morning. We got to hospital and where seen quite quickly for x ray. Shoulder was re located easily but hip will need to be done under anesthesia. They are currently waiting for a bed in a corridor in a&e atkeast one joint is back in though.
Thank you for those who showed concern.
There was no chance of moving them. It is hard enough to move someone with a dislocated shoulder hip makes it impossible and dangerous due to major vessels and damage that can be caused.

How did it happen op?

Social care is the responsibility of families over the NHS and care workers. People need to understand that older parents need to be looked after by living together and caring for each other. Larger families living together, working together helping one another…. Thats what needs to happen to fix the problem of an ageing population.

and yes expect an American style system because the english dont know how to revolt. If this was France with three prime ministers in 3 months people would be out in the streets screaming for a general election. Knowing what the tories have done and standing by, can’t complain can we.

Well yes

Just like all parents could care for their children properly, feed them, stimulate them, love them etc. but we know that’s not going to happen for many children.

so these families are Hardly likely to grow up and be the Brady bunch come old age

Why wait so long? Get a taxi.

Why wait so long? Get a taxi.“

no, terrible advice. Patients with suspected breaks should not be moved.

Why wait so long? Get a taxi.

Try to manoeuvre an adult with a dislocated hip and shoulder into a taxi? Get real.

I hope people remember these threads when it comes to voting at the next General Election.

Things are even worse in Wales where the NHS has been under Labour control since it was devolved.

My very elderly parents have just moved into England so they can get better treatment. Our local hospital trust in North Wales has been hit by scandal after scandal, was in special measures for years and is now in a state of near collapse.

Sadly there are many reasons why you wait 12-plus hours for an ambulance.
As many have said most people who fall over, have an isolated limb fracture you can make your own way to the hospital albeit painful is better than waiting for 12-plus hours.

Equally, 111 are very risk-averse and send unnecessary amounts of ambulances on high-category responses, therefore, pushing people like you down the stack.

Also there is simply not enough ambulances. The service that covers my area covers a vast area. My sister works for them and if you put on 100 extra vehicles on a busy day there will still be 100 people waiting for an ambulance. The amount of people currently calling the ambulance out because they can't be bothered to speak to their GP or want a quick fix is terrible. The show Ambulance doesn't do it justice.

This is also caused by hospitals not accepting ambulance patients and taking hours or in some cases days to take the patient from the ambulance into the emergency department. This has a huge knock-on for patients.

It is going to be a long winter in healthcare!
