To think I will be ok 4 weeks after a Hysterectomy??

Hello!

Was due to have an abdominal total Hysterectomy, including ovaries tomorrow.
Caught Covid, so it has had to be delayed.
New date 29th November.

We are hosting Christmas for 12, including family over from Australia.
DH is a great cook, but, cannot cope with more than one thing on the hob and one thing in the oven at a time.
The normal rule in our house, is he in on drinks/canapé/hosting duties, and leaves me to the oven & hob.

This works well.

However, this year, I will have had a Hysterectomy 3.5 weeks before Christmas Day.

Yes I have read all of the various guidelines with what you can, and cannot do - they are confusing.
I am not planning on lifting the turkey, or heavy pans etc....

But from those who have had a Hysterectomy, what will I be able to do?

Just trying to get my head around it all!

Thanks!

@Dixiechickonhols thankfully DH cooks as much as I do, and regularly does the food shopping/cupboard sorting, as well as all of the DIY.
I've definitely got a good one!

He's been waiting on me, as well as doing the cooking, shopping & driving for the last 5 weeks as I've had my big toe fused.

So I think as long as I can supervise & map out the timings for him, he'll be fine!

That’s good. Best wishes.

It took me 3 months to feel ''normal'' again after a partial abdominal hysterectomy for adenomyosis 5 years ago.

During the operation they also had to deal with adhesions between my uterus and other organs due to endometriosis and a big adenoma ( a non-cancerous tumour) the size of a tennis ball at the top of my uterus.

I went back home with a belly full of staples that stayed on for almost 2 weeks and I certainly could not bend over and pick up anything for 3 weeks.

I had to go back to A&E at week 3 because there was some bleeding. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing to worry about.

Then I started recovering slowly and walking around the neighbourhood every day, then in my local park. I did not go back to work until 3 months after the op.

My point is that you don't know how the operation will go, it might be an easy one or there might be, as in my case other issues to fix, and you don't know what the recovery will be like for you.

You certainly don't want to risk any complications because you are not giving your body enough time to recover.

I would not make plans at this stage to be involved in putting together a big family event.

1 aren’t you supposed to wait 7 weeks after Covid before you have a general anaesthetic?

2 also no I don’t think it’s wise to do so much 3.5 weeks after abdominal hysterectomy, you could
do yourself damage and exhaust your self as a minimum

Glad to hear you have sorted out your plans OP.

I am sure you will be fine. Of course everyone is different but having a positive attitude definitely helps and no reason to think you won't be one of the many woman that are fine.

I honestly had no problems whatsoever, no pain relief needed and I certainly could bend with no problems. When we went to the F1 we were camping so sleeping on an airbed. We also stood to watch the race for a couple of hours and I had no problems.

@Allthefoodandwine I wasn’t given much advice about the gym so about 8-9 weeks after the op (also had cervix, one ovary and a massive fibroid removed) I had a few sessions with a personal trainer to find some exercises that wouldn’t put too much strain on my core and then I just gradually worked my way back from there. A year later I can do everything (squats, CrossFit style classes, running) and have no probs with pelvic floor. Am very relieved as wasn’t sure what to expect and I’ve always enjoyed exercise and found it pretty essential for my mental health. Resting and recovering can be hard to stick to, but seriously, for the first 6 weeks, don’t lift or push or pull things! Hope that you have a lovely Christmas…
