Solid oak extending table with 4 chairs. Original price £1500, only used 6 months and has been wrapped in storage since. Immaculate condition with no marks/wear and tear.

What would you deem a reasonable price for it secondhand?

Looks similar to this picture but plain grey chairs in the same style

£150-200.

TokyoSushi · 24/10/2022 13:10

I expect you'd like about £800 for it, but if you're putting it on somewhere like marketplace, there's no way you'll get anywhere near that. About £300 max.

£150-200.

Sorry ignore me I missed that it was solid oak then my phone died when I tried to correct it. I'd think £400-500. Things are never worth as much second hand as they should be. For context I recently bought an antique solid oak writing desk/bureau in excellent condition for £200.

budgiegirl · 24/10/2022 13:12

Advertised for £350, hope to get offers of £300. Although it does depend on your local area I guess

Amipreg1 · 24/10/2022 13:12

I sold similar for £150 a while ago. I wouldn't expect more than £200

elephantbreathing · 24/10/2022 13:14

£150

Signeduptosimplyreplytothis · 24/10/2022 13:15

£200. You can't go by what you paid for it as a guide price, only what other similar items have sold for in your area. Whoever buys it also needs to collect it so that's an extra cost for them too.

CinnamonSwirl82 · 24/10/2022 13:16

Gosh those are low amounts. It's brand new. £1200-£1400 is a lot of money to lose...

I was thinking I was being unreasonable for expecting £900 for it (not FB marketplace, etc) from a mate. I guess I am! I'd rather keep it in storage than sell it for £150 😕

I think I've got that table. I paid £30 for it.

girlmom21 · 24/10/2022 13:17

I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred for a second hand table and chairs. If I was, I'd want to pick it from a selection.

Begoniasforever · 24/10/2022 13:17

I ended up giving mine away the chairs were leather though.

it’s not worth what you think op, I’m sorry

CinnamonSwirl82 · 24/10/2022 13:18

To add it's extending, which looking online seems to add a good £300-£400 to the price. £150 sounds unreasonable to me 😬 I could understand if it was a veneered cheapy from Argos...

Tigofigo · 24/10/2022 13:18

That style is not desirable or fashionable at the moment. I think you'd be lucky to get £200 for it.

Overthebow · 24/10/2022 13:19

I’d say £300-£400 as it’s extending.

Begoniasforever · 24/10/2022 13:20

Mine was teak

op, it’s only worth what someone will pay for it, it’s quite dated looking and I can’t perceive anyone would pay 900 for it, put it on eBay or market place if you think it’s worth that,

DenholmElliot1 · 24/10/2022 13:21

I agree with PP who says it's an old fashioned style - even if it were a fashionable one I wouldn't pay more than £200 for a second hand table and chairs.

Keeping it in storage means it will decrease in value, not increase in value, so there's really no benefit to keeping it.

Whataretheodds · 24/10/2022 13:21

The table will have held value better than the chairs.

The chairs aren't fashionable so that won't help unfortunately.

Agree that you'd generally be lucky to get more than half price for something even in great condition.

CinnamonSwirl82 · 24/10/2022 13:21

I guess I'll just keep it in that case and find some other use for it!

It's a beautiful set ☹️

MrsMitford3 · 24/10/2022 13:21

Sorry @CinnamonSwirl82 I just don't think you'll get much more that £150-200. Things like that don't hold their value.

If ppl are buying second hand they want a bargain.
Otherwise they'd buy new.

DenholmElliot1 · 24/10/2022 13:22

Why are you selling it?

CinnamonSwirl82 · 24/10/2022 13:22

The chairs are just plain grey fabric. I couldn't find a similar photo of them online, just the shape of the chair.

what’s the point? You don’t want it, you might as well get some money for it. What other use could you find for it? You’re being the dog in the manger

CinnamonSwirl82 · 24/10/2022 13:23

Moving house and there's no room for it @DenholmElliot1

Funnily enough i've been looking at this but with plain grey chairs on fb marketplace where i am. Up for sale for 150, all others 150 too. A few up at 200 but they've been listed a while. No-one wants to pay a lot for 2nd hand, no matter the quality

HollyPupp · 24/10/2022 13:23

I wouldn’t pay anymore then £150-£200 max for a second hand dining set.

If you spent over 1k on it then that was your choice but you won’t even get a quarter of that back second hand!
