To be bored by everything Halloween themed

I would love to find some Halloween activities for my children this half term that aren't Halloween themed. I'm not saying that from a religious point of view or anything. It's just that it seems to have become totally saturated with Halloween and it's just kind of annoying tbh. It's obviously fun for children but there are only so many pumpkin patches, spooky crafts and trails you want to do really.

We went to an apple day yesterday at a woodland centre which was really nice. Just an autumn themed event for families. But everything else I've come across is Halloween.

I probably sounds like a right kill joy, I'm honestly not but it's become too much. Christmas can be similar in many ways.

How does this make any sense?

AnApparitionQuipped · 23/10/2022 13:00

I think OP meant Halloween as in, time of year, in her first use of the word.

girlmom21 · 23/10/2022 13:01

Just think up your own activities? Autumn crafts, baking, woodland walks.

Our local museum is doing gunpowder plot activities this week.

Topgub · 23/10/2022 13:01

You want Halloween activities that aren't about Halloween?

Huh?

I don't think you'll have much luck with that one Grin

balalake · 23/10/2022 13:05

I am with what I think the OP means. This is not the 51st state of the US.

Topgub · 23/10/2022 13:07

@balalake

That makes less sense than the op.

Tiredforfive45 · 23/10/2022 13:09

Look out for church activity days.

We are going to one on Tuesday. Donation entry fee, lunch included and autumn activities for 5 hours!

Halloween is huge in the US but it’s not the only country in the world that does stuff for Halloween? I’m in my 30s and remember there were rubber masks and trick or treating when I was a kid in the U.K.

OP, can you organise your own? Maybe some non Halloween themed baking or a woodland walk or something? Drawing and colouring autumn leaves?

JamSandle · 23/10/2022 13:11

I love Halloween! Maybe look at more traditional activities?

PumpkinDart · 23/10/2022 13:11

I think the OP may mean that they would like to do non Halloween themed autumnal activities.

I'd probably make up my own if we didn't fancy Halloween type stuff. Pinterest is great, autumnal walks, puddle jumping, looking for conkers etc

Halloween originated in Scotland.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 23/10/2022 13:13

YABU obviously. Hallowe'en is the best.
But if you're bored of it, you're bored of it I guess.

But - are your KIDS bored of it? Have you asked them? What would they like to do? You may just have to suck it up for a bit longer. Only week left

ColourMeExhausted · 23/10/2022 13:13

I do get what you mean OP. Halloween seems to get bigger every year! We went to a National Trust place yesterday and they were doing pumpkin carving, we did not want to be stuck either pumpkins to carry so had to sneak the kids past it...

I don't mind Halloween but I'm slightly perplexed at how far people take it. Why are we so obsessed??

Needmorelego · 23/10/2022 13:16

Look at church based activities - they sometimes call them 'Light Festivals'.
Some places do Day of The Dead activities too or there's a lot of Diwali stuff around at the moment (not sure what date Diwali is/was but I am seeing a lot still around).

Because this is otherwise a pretty miserable time of year so it's something fun to keep children occupied with?

Well if you are looking for Halloween activities of course they are going to be Halloween themed.

Why can’t you just do what you normally do? Cinema, a big park, swimming, a science museum etc.

NerrSnerr · 23/10/2022 13:27

If you post what vague area you're in people may help. I saw that Perrygrove railway in the Forest of Dean is Halloween free but no use of course if you're not local.

lannistunut · 23/10/2022 13:32

I hear you, it is boring - we just ignore Halloween and do generic autumn things at this time of year. It only last a short while and then it is over thankfully!

So sorry, I meant activities that are NOT Halloween themed. My apologies for it not making sense.

Don't apologise @RookSoup - everyone knew what you meant but some people see giving people a kicking for no reason as a sport

Medoca · 23/10/2022 13:37

Pumpkin patches are more autumnal than Halloween. You don’t have to carve them, you could eat them! Round here all the family activities seem to be dressing up, apple bobbing, pumpkin carving, arts and crafts, etc. so a mixture of everything really. Church event would be less Halloween focussed, personally I love Halloween, makes me feel very autumnal!

bewarethetides · 23/10/2022 13:38

Go collect leaves on a walk then use waxed crayons/paper to do leaf rubbing pictures?

Scavenger hunt with tablets ... take pictures of things they find on an autumn list like different colours, etc

Kissingfrogs25 · 23/10/2022 13:40

I hate halloween - but I have learnt to celebrate the season instead and not have bright orange plastic everywhere but bringing the nature inside and candle light etc. We make pumpkin and butternut based soups and food, decorate the house for autumn not halloween and avoid the ghastly overpriced tat at all costs.

Kanaloa · 23/10/2022 13:47

What type of non Halloween activities do you want? Realistically there are all the same activities that were available in September, which aren’t Halloween themed.
