If you install the M**rcst insurance app. Buy a travel insurance for one person for one night in U.K. You then get 25% off every day in a well known coffee shop

Can you explain why this is a "hack"?

What does that even mean?

Sign up for something and get rewarded with discount. It's hardly a new marketing strategy, and even if it was, how would signing up be a "hack"?

Hacks are what we used to call tips. But hack makes it sound more exciting.

Thank you for sharing OP. 🙂

There's some strange ungrateful people on this thread!

I'm not ungrateful, I genuinely don't get it. If you can make it clear, that would be great.

amicissimma · 19/10/2022 20:19

Less opaquely, if you are within reasonable distance of a Pret their subscription gives you up to 5 cups a day of their handmade drinks for a month for £25. Which is a good deal provided you drink 9 a month or 10 if you take your own cup.

And Waitrose are apparently bringing back their free coffee, with a purchase of any amount, supply your own cup, next month.

Cafe Nero which has not paid corporation tax in the UK since 2007! No thanks.

friedbrainrightnow · 19/10/2022 20:24

I think the point the OP is making is the part about buying a cheap insurance policy to make use of the discounts. I would say that is a bit of a hack!

Really? How do they get away with it!

StopDrivingIntoMyFence · 19/10/2022 20:26

It's not a hack. I think a lot of people don't understand the meaning of "hack".

It's a useful tip. If you like Cafe Nero and want to buy insurance to get your coffee cheaper. It's well advertised, not a hack.

Dagnabit · 19/10/2022 20:27

I think you’ll find it’s m**rcat… 😁

WhatsitWiggle · 19/10/2022 21:04

Aposterhasnoname · 19/10/2022 19:58

I think the supposed hack part is that you get meerkat meals and movies by buying a single night travel insurance which can cost just a couple of pounds. Since you won’t be using it, you can put whatever parameters make it cheaper in. Mine cost £1.50.

This is exactly what I've done to get the meal offer for a team mid week meal at Pizza Hut - spent £2 and we saved £40!

It's useful advice to point out you can buy a very cheap qualifying product and get various different rewards.

Yes. I did not type the full name in case it was not allowed. Thought it was obvious which company it was. So many clever people who enjoy trying to make op's look silly

OP posts:
Unicorse · 20/10/2022 02:34

I think it was the typo in the name of the app that confused people. When some of the letters are missing it really doesn't help that one of the remaining letters is wrong.

urbanbuddha · 20/10/2022 02:46

Thanks for that OP. Thst's very useful.
So many twisted sisters on mumsnet lately - maybe the state of the country is getting to them.

I think that was the problem. Just a bit confusing.

Jeez, the mean girls on mumsnet are so unbearable and incredibly repetitive (you see how two comments would have covered this rather than the boring pile on)

It's not being mean girls. It's having a laugh at a ridiculous post. That's different.

Apologies I genuinely didn't realise until someone else had written it. Is the hack that you buy some thing really cheap? What's the cheapest insurance they do?

CarefreeMe · 20/10/2022 06:27

Some people are so rude.

I do not buy takeout coffees (it must cost a fortune!) but for those that do this will be really helpful.

Whycanineverever · 20/10/2022 06:39

Get an o2 phone. You can get a sim for about £5 and you can get a greggs sausage roll / pizza slice every week plus other bits - pays for itself!

NashvilleQueen · 20/10/2022 06:46

Hi OP. So long as you're not the one selling you're absolutely fine to share the full name of the companies concerned. Even the link if you want to.

There are usually lots of bargain threads around this time of year so you can always repost on there.

Not sure why your well intentioned thread has prompted such a lot of unwarranted meanness.

Spacejamming · 20/10/2022 06:54

Thanks OP. Not sure why people need to be so rude with their comments - they could just scroll on. For anyone who regularly buys a cafe Nero and didn’t know about this offer (I didn’t), this is really helpful.

Bemoredog · 20/10/2022 06:55

I'm not sure why people come on the thread to be so rude and then love to state they wouldn't buy the coffee anyway.

Go and start your own misery thread.. I swear there actually needs to be am actual topic for them all. "Miserable Mumsnetter's." Jesus, some of you are so unpleasant, you seen to love trying to make others feel bad.

Thanks OP and others who have suggested other offers/hacks.

FredaFox · 20/10/2022 06:57

I don't think people are being mean, I've only just realised there was typo in the name so how was anyone meant to get the cryptic message. People need to stop being offended at the slightest thing
Now I know it is meercat i release it's old news but I thank the op for sharing a tip when money is tight for people and maybe somebody will benefit from it

NashvilleQueen · 20/10/2022 08:48

But she said at the beginning she wasn't sure if it was allowed. And then comment after comment ridiculing her followed.

Would you do that to someone in real life?

Hydrangeatea · 20/10/2022 12:19

Christ people, if you don't feel this post helps you just move on rather than criticising the OP
