To be fed up with continual requests for feedback...

Firstly, many places only want positive feedback - so that is a challenge.
Secondly, hotels that I have been going to since 2009 should really understand that I like them, feel comfortable and happy there and would definitely recommend them to other people.
Thirdly, I am not convinced that constructive criticism is ever passed on.
Fourthly, yes, I have just had yet another request for feedback.

Fifth, why do they then respond to any improvement suggestions with some mealy-mouthed passive aggressive rubbish that’s longhand for ‘fuck you, valued customer,’ when THEY asked for the feedback?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 18/10/2022 19:18

PS in case it wasn’t abundantly clear I think YANBU!

girlfriend44 · 18/10/2022 19:39

Yes it's a nightmare everything you do now your asked what you think.

I just ignore them.

Keyansier · 18/10/2022 19:56

You've been leaving constant reviews for hotels and other places you've visited since 2009 every time they request one? Of course you're being unreasonable. It's like replying to scam texts and answering scam calls and then complain you're being inundated with more of them.

megosaurusrex · 18/10/2022 19:58

I got this every time I booked a car park at the station when I went to work 🙄 when I ignored the emails they used to follow up twice.

martinisforeveryone · 18/10/2022 20:00

I hear you loud and clear. I was once hounded by John Lewis to leave a review. I wrote a factual and concise one, of the product not the store or service. It was the kind of thing I'd have found useful when choosing what to buy. Not long after I got an email saying unfortunately my review wasn't suitable for publication. If they hadn't written turning me down for a job I'd no interest in applying for, or so to speak, I'd never have known, but I've ignored all further requests.

I'm suspicious of online reviews these days and how many of them are genuine.

Remona · 18/10/2022 20:02

I’m glad this isn’t just me. It’s every single thing you do. If they have your email address, you get a request for feedback. And then when you fail to respond, you get a follow up request.

You get it on texts too and that REALLY does my head in. You ring mobile phone customer services for whatever reason then you get “How did we do? Question 1 of 5” etc. It drives me round the fucking bend.

I just ignore it all but it still irritates the hell out of me.

Remona · 18/10/2022 20:06

And online reviews on the whole are worthless.

I’ve left plenty of good reviews on sites and those, funnily enough, usually stay there.

I have left two bad reviews for products which were dreadful and I explained why in my reviews. Both mysteriously disappeared from the sites in question. Funny that 🤔

I now take all the 5 star glowing reviews with a massive pinch of salt.

PersonIrresponsible · 18/10/2022 20:07

I recently wrote a glowing review on a cat product I bought.

I informed other potential purchasers that "I was astonished the cat liked it because the tiny wanker never usually does."

I am temporarily banned from reviewing other products on Amazon.

Helpful tip for you.

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 18/10/2022 20:10

Yes I hate it. Amazon is pissing me off atm. No I cant review the barbie I brought 2 days ago on sale because believe it or not I'm saving it for xmas.
The worst is when you write a review and it doesn't follow their guidelines so isnt published. Just post the review and I will decide for myself if it's useful.

lannistunut · 18/10/2022 20:11

I ignore every request for feedback, not sure I have ever done one. If I get really good service I send an email to the business owner.

Ragwort · 18/10/2022 20:11

I had this with a local garage ... I had actually had shocking service, which was eventually acknowledged and a half hearted apology was offered; I kept being hounded for feedback which I ignored (because I had put my complaints in writing) eventually someone rung me from the garage to 'request' my feedback, he clearly didn't have a clue about what had gone in, hadn't even looked at the correspondence or dealt direct with the customer service manager with whom I had been corresponding. I almost felt sorry for him but what an absolute waste of time and money.
They even had the cheek to ring me a few months later to try to get me to replace my car and buy a better model .. again, no reference to anything regarding the original complaint.

Couldyounot · 18/10/2022 20:12

"Finally, can you tell us why you gave these ratings?"

No.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/10/2022 20:13

I was going to start a thread about this!

I get that feedback is useful - and I often use it myself when making decisions; but it does put a downer on buying/booking things online when every single thing is followed by a request for a review, especially when you haven't really had time to properly evaluate it, or it's a present for somebody else. I've (finally) managed to get ahead of the game with Christmas presents this year and have already been asked for reviews for items that won't be seen by their new owners for another two months. "Did you like this book about football?" "No, it would bore me rigid to read even one sentence, so I would give it 1 star myself; but I'm sure my football-mad nephew will love it when he opens it!"

It must be difficult if your business and livelihood is in selling boring, mundane things, but as a consumer, I just want to buy bin bags or envelopes without being expected to 'tell all' about my experiences with them and how they have transformed my life.

Quveas · 18/10/2022 20:13

I now give feedback on the truly awful and the truly great. Everything else is deleted on sight.

sandytooth · 18/10/2022 20:15

Have you fed back that they are asking for too much feedback?

Silvercurtains · 18/10/2022 20:18

Customer feedback is very rarely used to actually improve products/services - certainly not in large companies. It’s just used to promote the company or provide reports for senior staff so they can talk about statistics and pretend to more senior staff that they care about customer feedback when they don’t really. I’m a complaint manager for a bank. We’re told to tell customers their feedback/ideas will get passed on. It gets put on a spreadsheet and nothing is done with it. In fairness, many of the ideas are unenforceable for reasons the customer has not thought of. But I’ve seen multiple times over the years where there’s genuine problems that could be sorted but aren’t. All the senior staff care about is how many complaints are closed but fixing the root cause of the complaint has no priority.

lawandgin · 18/10/2022 20:19

@PersonIrresponsible 😂

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/10/2022 20:19

Oddly enough, we stayed at a hotel the other weekend and gave the requested feedback - they wanted it both for their own internal purposes and then again for TripAdvisor. We gave very good (but not perfect) feedback and said we'd definitely stay there again, but we did mention a few minor negative rooms for improvement.

They auto-replied soon after, expressing great sadness that we weren't happy with our stay, and offering us a free upgrade if we would be willing to give them another chance in the future!

Spanielsarepainless · 18/10/2022 20:20

I have stopped leaving feedback on Amazon after a mildly critical review was removed. I do leave it on eBay as that is a reciprocal arrangement. You can opt out of requests for feedback on Amazon. The only emails I now get are regarding my orders up to arrival at my house.

Davros · 18/10/2022 20:23

I really hate "complete our short survey" and every time, two or three points in, I'm asked to write an essay on why I gave the feedback I did. I just stop at that point. I'm willing to tick a few boxes but no more than that

Ffsmakeitstop · 18/10/2022 20:25

I have this from our doctors. You book an appt then get a text reminding you straight away and then at least 3 texts asking for feedback. And then a reminder 2 days before and then the day of the appt. I suppose we should be grateful to actually get an appt at the moment.
I have told them to take my number off my records if I have an app I write it down and stick it on the fridge.
My main objection is I have a son who lives alone and has mh problems. He is usually the only person to message me so if my phone beeps my heart is in my mouth panicking about what's wrong.

Lawandsawdus · 18/10/2022 20:27

I work on a helpline and have to ask if people are happy to be contacted for feedback. I always say it’s voluntary.

I work for a charity and our funder requires that we ask. I never ask if someone is distressed which is the right thing to do for them but leaves us vulnerable to losing contract because funders just look at numbers.

It also allows an outlet for frustration at north getting through to the service rather than just through me - part of it is run by volunteers.

I'm not doubting you at all, but that surprises me. I don't see why Amazon would care if people like a product or not - they can just replace it with another if people rate it low.

YANBU.
