Things other people do that irrationally annoy you

What do other people do that makes you really mad even though it really doesn't matter. My mum has made me so cross this morning over something that is meaningless. Logically I know it doesn't matter but I'm fuming. 🤣

The crime? She said that my youngest brother has been with his fiancé longer than I've been with my husband. I started dating my husband before he started school and got married just as he started secondary school so it isn't like she's slightly out. See, doesn't matter and yet grrrr.

Also middle brother announced his engagement at oldest brothers engagement party. Oldest brother and his wife are the most chilled people you have ever met (unlike me clearly) so didn't seem to mind but I was furious as it's such bad form.

Also the cat is a dick. She has several water bowls and fountains but won't use them. Put a mug of water down someone and her head is straight in there. We've taken to leaving water mugs in various places (which inevitable end up getting spilled) and drinking out of lidded travels cups.

Actually. I've got a few more.

People who aren't accountable. If you can't do something, say you can't do it. Don't tell me you can do it and then 3 months down the line claim you can't when it's too late and the project falls flat on its face. Ditto people who try and change the task to cut corners when we have specifically agreed not to cut corners because it will lead to the problem we are actually trying to sort out with the new task.

Also DHs inability to recycle properly. Stop putting plastic wrapping in the glass recycling. Stop putting minging takeaway trays that are still covered in food in. The bin men won't take them!!!!!
I adore my husband but I swear to god that will be the reason that goes on the divorce papers.

Oh dear - I think I'm guilty of the first one! In fairness, I was being put under pressure by manager to deliver and was trying to do something that wsasn't really my job..

OhDearODear · 18/10/2022 15:45

People who gloat that they don’t like sweet things, don’t like to be overfaced with huge quantities of food on one plate, like to sit around the table for ages after dinner, open their presents in a deliberately slow and civilised way.
People who talk as if their parents were the fount of all wisdom.

You did say irrationally.

SpookyWookyBoo · 18/10/2022 15:49

Mine is so in the morning.
I leave stuff out for the kids breakfast.
He keeps putting stuff back in fridge/press/ freezer.
Leave it out.

My kids asking me to wash a t shirt at 9.30 at night for the morning.
That really annoys me.

Huntswomanonthemove · 18/10/2022 15:51

People who sound an h when saying some words. For example conshume. 😱

The Woman this morning who's got into our apartment building with her survey and is wandering around door-knocking. NO.

There's an intercom security system at the front door for a reason. If you're welcome at the door of our flat we'll buzz you in, if you're not then buzz off.

Also people who say 'oooh you're being good' when you decline their offer of a biscuit. No, I'm just not hungry nor do I especially like biscuits.

And people who have phone conversations in public using earphones / headphones with their phone not even in their hand. I've got no idea why but it really irritates me Grin

The phone thing drives me mad! Someone walking towards me talking, I'm inevitably going to think they're talking to me so I look towards them, trying to work out if I know them and what they're saying, then spot the earpiece and duh!

Also, people walking while texting annoys me irrationally - possibly because I would fall over or walk into things if I tried!

Eating while walking! Bonus points if you hold everyone up in Gregg's by stopping in the doorway on you way out to take a massive bite of your pasty! Just get somewhere you can stop and enjoy your food! Worst was a young man running for a train while forking some Chinese noodle dish into his mouth!

We have a drive at a sharp angle to the road. When coming down the road, it's easy to go in. When coming up the road, the only sensible way is to swing across the road, then back in.

So when I'm driving up the road, I indicate that I'm pulling over in plenty of time. Then I pull into the side of the road and wait until it's safe to pull across the road.
The number of cars that ignore the indicator and, as I pull up next to my drive, pull in behind me so closely that when it becomes clear I'm not going to drive on they have to reverse to get round me-normally with gestures that imply they think I'm in the wrong for stopping.

slowquickstep · 18/10/2022 15:56

People that don't use tissues, people ( normally women) that use the palms of their hands to wipe their nose whilst make a god awful noise. People who walk into a shop and stop dead in the doorway and people that walk out a shop and stop dead in the doorway.

UnderCoverFieldAgent · 18/10/2022 15:57

When people write any of the following things on social media:

’so blessed to have been able to put something into the food bank today. It’s the little things 💗’

’To my darling baby boy, have the most fantastic birthday. I love you so much, I can’t believe you’re ONE’ FFS, I doubt he can read, let alone have a FB account!!!

Moving on…those chavvy bows that people put on their baby girls 🤮 and people who use the dreaded phrase ‘full of cold’.

hotdiggetydog · 18/10/2022 15:58

People, and restaurants that say panini when they mean panino.

Dotjones · 18/10/2022 15:59

People who eat food out of a plastic container with cutlery. The distinctive noise the fork makes really riles me.

oopsfellover · 18/10/2022 15:59

People who don’t have their phone on silent on public transport, especially when they’re constantly messaging. A work colleague does the same in our office and I inwardly bristle every time the alert goes off.

followacrowforacrust · 18/10/2022 16:01

People who allow their tiny child to hold up a queue by letting them pay or ask for something and it takes forever and the parent thinks it is terribly cute.

It's not.

followacrowforacrust · 18/10/2022 16:02

Ohh and people who hold one nostril closed and blow snot out onto the ground. And people who spit. Filthy.

Mentalpiece · 18/10/2022 16:07

Performance sneezers. You know the ones....A,AACHOOOOOWOOWOOOOH sniff.
People who laugh like a donkey.

Avastmehearties · 18/10/2022 16:07

When my mother people don't summarise what another person has said or done, they repeat it verbatim.

People who are too intertwined with their families for my liking. Is it my business? No. Does it piss me off irrationally? Yes.

I have a thing with my mum that’s similar to yours OP - my brother is 10 years younger than me and she will totally misremember our relative ages - eg at 21 she thought he was “too young to go to Spain alone” (for a study abroad year, not even moving independently!) and when I said that I was only 20 when I went to New Zealand alone she said “no, you were much older!” Or at 27 my brother is “too young to be getting serious with his girlfriend”, I say I was 26 when I got married, she says “no you weren’t!” Like I don’t know how old I was when I got married?? If I argue she says “oh well you seemed a lot older”. Practically it makes zero difference to my life but every time it winds me up.

Haha that would wind me up too. My mum does that but with ages when we were little, which is at least more understandable because it was 30-odd years ago but it still winds me up that I can remember and she can't. Like she'll say things like "ooh, you won't remember xyz as you were only about 5" and it's like "mum, I was 12." Like how can you get such different ages mixed up? They're completely different, we were at different schools, lived in different places... And it usually completely changes the story too. Coming home from school crying because of silly argument with a friend is a completely different story if I was 7 than if I was 14.

Now I've got a baby she'll reminisce, saying things like "I stopped breastfeeding you when you were 4 months old" or "you were 12 months old when you started walking" and I just try and blank it out because the probability she's misremembered the age is so high that there's literally no point absorbing the information.

Spanielsarepainless · 18/10/2022 16:14

Our postcode has an H in it. The only people who ever repeat my postcode back to me over the 'phone say 'Haitch'. Every single arsing time.

ThreeRingCircus · 18/10/2022 16:18

People that use the right hand lane and indicate right when they're going straight over a roundabout (that doesn't have lane markings.) There's one on my walk with DD to school and the amount of people that do this gives me the absolute rage!

Actually I don't think it's irrational to be annoyed by this, they're an accident waiting to happen!

Ah yes, that's another of my pet peeves. I'm currently undertaking extended treatment through HCA Healthcare and it irks me as soon as the recorded message starts "Welcome to Haitch CA...". Aargh.

KimberleyClark · 18/10/2022 16:20

People in queues who don’t move forward when the person in front of them does so a gap opens up. I’m an awful queuer.

Doubly so when the traffic light has just turned green. I hit near murderous if it stops me getting through lights at roadworks when I've queued for ages. Keep up with the car in front and you can get another 5-10 cars through on each light.

PainterJane · 18/10/2022 16:24

People who stand too close to me , especially when I need to give the person at the desk (doctor, hotel etc) personal details

TabbyM · 18/10/2022 16:36

People who stand at pedestrian crossings and don't press the button so you assume it's already done and end up waiting for ages - just press it ffs and we can all get across the road faster

Lol, I hardly think that's irrational!

Ilovedthe70s · 18/10/2022 16:58

People who put dirty dishes in the sink so when you come to wash up you have to empty the sink before you can start. Makes me seethe with silent rage every single time
