Things other people do that irrationally annoy you

What do other people do that makes you really mad even though it really doesn't matter. My mum has made me so cross this morning over something that is meaningless. Logically I know it doesn't matter but I'm fuming. 🤣

The crime? She said that my youngest brother has been with his fiancé longer than I've been with my husband. I started dating my husband before he started school and got married just as he started secondary school so it isn't like she's slightly out. See, doesn't matter and yet grrrr.

Also middle brother announced his engagement at oldest brothers engagement party. Oldest brother and his wife are the most chilled people you have ever met (unlike me clearly) so didn't seem to mind but I was furious as it's such bad form.

Also the cat is a dick. She has several water bowls and fountains but won't use them. Put a mug of water down someone and her head is straight in there. We've taken to leaving water mugs in various places (which inevitable end up getting spilled) and drinking out of lidded travels cups.

Whooping.

We’re watching a comedian on Comedy Central and there’s WHOOPING every time he makes a joke.
I take part in races fairly often; support is great when people actually shout words of encouragement but the WHOOPING - to be honest it makes me run faster just to get away from it.
Go to a concert - more WHOOPING
Any typical Saturday night televised talent show - WHOOPING

WHOOoOoo!!! Fucking stop it!

Yes this. I actually stopped going to a Zumba class because of a person who whooped earsplittingly loudly and often. Just. So. Fucking. Annoying.

Hypocrites.
You know the kind.
I can do what I like but I'll look down on you for doing the same.

My MIL Grin when DD was born she expected us to have her christened and she got the hump when we didn't. She openly mocks Christians and the church etc. Her other DIL got her son christened because she does go to church and MIL takes the piss out of her for it 🥴

She had a lot to say when we booked our wedding "What's the point? It's just a piece of paper! All it will do is ruin your relationship!" She wanted me to sign a pre-nup.

All in the same year she proceeded to divorce FIL, met some guy online, got married and she went MAD when he asked her to sign a pre-nup beforehand. Theirs is the most toxic relationship I've ever personally witnessed. They've been together since 2015 and he's moved out and back in so many times she should just install a revolving door at this rate.

Lately I've been getting irrationally annoyed at a few people I know referring to anything Christmassy as 'tat'. It feels like such an overused word lately and kind of insensitive when it's in reference to a gift.

Vannymcvan · 27/11/2022 09:17

Furbabies

Mini me when referring to their daughter. Fuck off.

Tess Daly. Everything about her. Can't watch Strictly anymore.

Adults cycling on the pavement.

When I talk about my son's behaviour (very autistic) and the parent of a neurotypical child says 'oh yes, my ds does that'. No they don't.

notnowB · 27/11/2022 18:17

Sniff often and loudly on public transport and in other public places. It particularly annoys me when men do it (sorry), as my own father always carries a handkerchief and would never do this. It's so uncouth.

petridishmystery · 29/11/2022 17:24

I don’t think it’s entirely irrational but does annoy me more than it should, especially as it comes from a good place but if I or anyone else says they wish there was a certain service/activity/shop etc and someone says “so set one up!”

for instance I was saying I wished there more local writers events here and a friend suggested i set one up. Yes it’s a good idea but I don’t want to set one up and have all the work involved with organising etc. I want someone else to organise it so I can just pitch up and enjoy it!

People who are constantly negative everything has to be a drama, doesn't effect me in the slightest as I zone out but it does get on my nerves.

Also people who take up the whole Aisle in the supermarket and don't move when I've said "excuse me" 50 million times.

This!😂😂😂😂

Relationship advice from my mum who is in a miserable relationship herself and the things she's suggests are very outdated - what are you having for dinner? Oh are you not going to cook for partner? No because we don't live together and he is perfectly capable of feeding himself. Why are you in your slacks (At 9 at night) isn't partner coming round tonight? Yes but I'm not going to put a full face on and an outfit to go to bed Hmm

Lol 😂 😂

Wrinklydinkly · 29/11/2022 19:58

People in front of me in a coffee shop, saying "can I get"when they mean "may I have" .

MinnieMountain · 30/11/2022 06:21

@Wrinklydinkly my DH does that. Made worse by the fact that he’s otherwise pedantic about grammar.

potniatheron · 01/12/2022 14:37

My pet hate is grown adults who use twee and self-infantilising language about themselves on social media. "I did A Thing!" "Heckin' cute!" etc etc.

Why do they do it?

I love my mum but she is constantly repeating herself. She's been doing some washing for me over the last 3 weeks as my machine packed up. I can't count the amount of times she's told me her machine has a 9kg drum and that it spins on 1400rpm. Normally it's 900 but if she wants to hang it out at this time of year she gives it an extra spin and that's when it does 1400.
Shut. UP!

Maybe your Mum is thinking Take.Your.Washing.To.The, Laundrette, Ungrateful, Offspring

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/12/2022 18:50

People who stay in their nightwear all day. It's irrational because it affects me not one bit ... but it still annoys me.

superplumb · 01/12/2022 20:15

I just hate people generally. The noise smell, being stupid..list is endless.

ImOutOfTouch · 01/12/2022 23:10

@MeowMeowPowerRangers

'Also people who take up the whole Aisle in the supermarket and don't move when I've said "excuse me" 50 million times.'

I find if you say 'excuse me' in a busy shop people are shocked you are using the most effective means of making it known you need to pass by. I'm convinced people would rather you shove and shuffle whilst muttering 'sorry'.

LiveatCityHall · 02/12/2022 07:17

@slowquickstep believe me if she was thinking that she would have told me. She does not hold back

ImustLearn2Cook · 04/12/2022 04:41

When someone says long story short but launches into a very long monologue loaded with unnecessary details. 😡

the80sweregreat · 04/12/2022 05:47

I always want the short version of a story.
Not the one where nobody gets to the point !

NoNameNowAgain · 05/12/2022 07:29

With stories, there’s also a connectedness rule. The more distantly connected to me the subject of the story is, the more interesting the story needs to be. Boring stories about friends of relations of friends drive me mental.

Havehope21 · 05/12/2022 07:36

People who drag there feet so you can hear it on the floor.
People who jig their leg on the train.
People who walk slowly and hog the middle of the pavement.
Couples who take up the whole pavement so you can't overtake.
People who don't understand that when you are walking, people going uphill have right of way so they need to move!

I do number 1, 2, 3 and 4. All due to disability. I fucking hope beyond all hope you get stuck behind me one day.

I hope they don’t, I worry they’d push you out the way.

TigerRag · 06/12/2022 12:08

People who call you when they could have just text instead. It was my GP who were told to text me

xogossipgirlxo · 06/12/2022 12:19

I wouldn't say it's irrational, it's quite reasonable, but I hate when people talk too much. They talk about something mundane for 10 minutes, whilst it could have been wrapped up in 1-2 sentences. Ugh.
