Spiralli is God tier

SuperCamp · 17/10/2022 21:09

Tagliatelle, fettuccine and pappardelle rule.

Other pastas are fantastic in their right sauce.

EnormousStuffedMarrow · 17/10/2022 21:13

Penne is the worst.

Goldbar · 17/10/2022 21:14

We like dinosaur pasta best in this house. Alphabet at a push.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 17/10/2022 21:21

It depends on the quality. I don't eat much pasta as I'm gluten intolerant but DH buys organic spaghetti and it is irresistible - it's just so tasty!

Dou8hnuts · 17/10/2022 21:24

Definitely unreasonable tagliatelle is god tier in our house! But yes they do all have a different flavour. The favourite here is lasagne though, closely followed by tagliatelle and then penne. My boys have autism and won’t touch any others they say it’s too strange. I like cannelloni stuffed with grilled vegetables but nobody else does so I have to batch cook it and freeze for other days.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 17/10/2022 21:29

Pasta tastes the same regardless of what is is

forevercooking · 17/10/2022 21:34

I agree.
Also crinkle chips and crisps are shit.
I like a twirl but not a wispa. Don't like the taste of the bubbles.

Darbs76 · 17/10/2022 21:36

Agree, Rigatoni and Cassarecce are my favourite

WonderingWanda · 17/10/2022 21:44

Penne are spiteful little fuckers with that secret store of boiling water/sauce they release onto the tip of your tongue rendering the rest of the meal tasteless.

Foxfeeder · 17/10/2022 21:58

I like Orzo very much but each time I eat it, I breathe in, a piece goes down the wrong way and I nearly choke on it. I try not to eat it on my own as a result.

Spaghetti and Tagliatelle on Shit tier and to be avoided at all costs in public.

TheHateIsNotGood · 17/10/2022 22:07

Ahem - Tagliatelli is Tier 1 - it's the best pasta for Bolognese so say the Italians - and me. It depends what you add to the pasta - some can be good with minimal ingredients and some are just to add bulk, like spiralli, which is best when used sparingly.

caggie3 · 17/10/2022 22:09

With bucatini, does the sauce actually fill the hollow gap? I know it's like a thicker spaghetti due to the gap but I fear it not filling with sauce and instead just being a thick lump of pasta so never buy it, but all these god tier rankings of it is making me question it!

Medoca · 17/10/2022 22:10

Rachel Roddy is the queen, her recipes are amazing and she’s just brought a new book out - the A-Z of pasta. Matches the pasta to the sauce. I’ve just ordered, can’t wait to read it!!

OnBoardTheHeartOfGold · 17/10/2022 22:24

Agree with the theory but not the classifications. I can't eat spaghetti as it tasted awful. Other pasta is good. Penne is the best.

SuperCamp · 17/10/2022 22:28

Orzo is very nasty. Slimy little bits.

FiloPasty · 17/10/2022 22:30

I just hope all of you who say it tastes the same or that it’s tasteless have actually tried some Italian traditional pasta recipes that match sauce to the pasta type.
Pasta grannies on YouTube is brilliant.
Big Shouty letters for this - SALT YOUR PASTA WATER!!!!!!

whatsdiswhatsdat · 17/10/2022 22:47

Spaghetti hoops 🙌🏻

BuryingAcorns · 17/10/2022 23:09

The most disgusting pasta is farfalle -the outer bit gets overcooked and the middle is rock hard. Makes me gag. And tagliatelle is like eating tapeworms.

But fusilli are lovely.

So you are right but got the order a bit wrong Grin

I was wondering if some of the posters saying it’s tasteless don’t salt the water or don’t salt it enough. The water needs to taste nice and savoury. Too little and it’s unpleasantly bland. Too much spoils the dish.

No, the hole just makes the pasta swing round as you try and eat it so it stains your new white t shirt. It also needs much less cooking time than you'd think, given its form so you risk getting flobby overcooked pasta as well.
It's ok, but it's not too tier.
(In my supermarket it's also bottom shelf product so it's not that popular in Italy either!)

Geamhradh · 18/10/2022 08:30

For traditional typical pasta dishes Diane Seed's book (100 pasta sauces or sth) is my favourite. I just sent DD with a copy to university. It's old now and there's no sleb cheffery about it, it's just recipes for the actual pasta dishes actual Italians eat. (pasta and peas, pasta and butter beans, pasta and potatoes etc, as well as Sunday pasta like lasagne and ragu) it's about £3 on Amazon.

You can't suck bucatini pasta - I think that's where the other poster is going wrong. Different technique totally 😂

troppibambini6 · 19/10/2022 09:50

As others have said I think all pasta is great but only with the right sauces.
My family is Italian (from Puglia) and there are definite rules about which pasta goes with which sauce.
Orzo is a soup pasta. Pastina made with orzo is really good. Pastina is like jewish chicken soup for Italians it makes everyone feel better if they are ill. It's also used for bacala at Christmas.
Orriciette is for broccoli sauce
Linguine is for sea food.....
Farfalle are ok in pastina too but I always cook them for longer.

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 19/10/2022 11:56

Spirali is best! Fond of conchiglie as well.
Rotelle is the worst, and I'm not keen on fusilli or penne. Or farfelle.
