Holiday in 4 months and I'm not happy...am I being ungrateful ?

My boyfriend has surprised me with a weeks holiday in 4 weeks.
He's booked us to go to Gran Canaria but I'm just not excited at all
My summer feeling has gone and I'm ready for Halloween /Christmas
I just can't be excited for a holiday 6 weeks before Xmas when it's normally freezing and I'm in jumpers.
Think the weather will be around 26/27 degrees and that's hot for me.
The hassle of having to sort through the summer bits again
I just can't be bothered tbh
Am I ungrateful?

What a bastard.
Dump him immediately.
Then give him my number 😜

@badassbaby this exactly 🤣

for anyone who may be reading or anyone who knows me … please note I’ll never be offended at any surprise holidays booked for me ..
I only need enough notice to get to the airport in time .. other than that I’m good to go 😍

I think you're being a bit ridiculous to be honest & are definitely not coming across well.
I'm fair skinned & don't swim but I would take the opportunity to rest, go on long beach walks early or late depending on the temperature , read several books, drink wine & eat good food, lots of siestas & sex with my dh & 10 days away from the hum drum normal - what's not to like?

BadNomad · 17/10/2022 21:06

It's not my idea of a good time either, but it's a gift and given with good intentions, so I would just say thanks and try to make the best of it.

Six weeks before Christmas is ideal. You can "do" Halloween (not sure what that means for an adult, but prob a party?), have a few days to pack, have a fabulously relaxing warm holiday on a beautiful island then return and get your fill of Christmas shopping and Christmas Markets. Sounds lovely!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 17/10/2022 21:25

I think you will enjoy it when you are there.. I recently came back from a cruise and it was so nice just to get some cosy sun!

beetlebrain · 17/10/2022 21:27

Part of the fun of holidays is deciding where to go, looking forward to it and looking up fun things to do. I know how irritated I would be to have something like this sprung upon me- that I hadn't been part of choosing.

userxx · 17/10/2022 21:31

You know the answer to this OP. I think a week in the sun will do you the world of good, sounds like you've lost your get-up-and-go.

@Testina pretty much ,I suggested Manchester for the Xmas markets and we talked about it
Then he said he had booked GC

I still don’t understand what happened.
You suggested Manchester Xmas markets.
Was it then a complete surprise that he booked GC, or did you talk about ideas and then he said, “leave it with me” with you knowing he was going book something and that the ideas were only ideas?

There’s just no way in hell my husband (or any man I’ve ever dated!) would think it was OK to book a complete surprise trip!

If you had no idea, and you hadn’t given him any instruction to go ahead and decide, then he’s potentially been a bit of an arsehole just booking the holiday he wants.

But I don’t want to hang him just yet - as it’s so weird to just book it without you knowing, I can’t help but wonder if you put the choice in his hands. Then it backfired!

WaddleAway · 17/10/2022 21:39

I’d kill for a surprise holiday 😭, haven’t had a holiday in years.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy it when you get there OP.

Exactly! Especially if the chooser chose somewhere I didn’t want to go! I’m amazed at all the PP expecting OP to be grateful because it’s something they would like.

Why would you want to traipse around overpriced markets in the rain. Give me cocktails and tapas anyday.

FaceLikeASmackedArse · 17/10/2022 21:47

God, I wish someone would whisk me away on a surprise winter holiday!

Duchess379 · 17/10/2022 21:48

I'll go. I hate autumn & winter so will cheerfully go somewhere hot 👍🏻

lightisnotwhite · 17/10/2022 22:06

It won’t be a “summer” holiday because they will be doing their version of winter. It’s a respite from the rain, frost and frenzied shopping that will be happening in November.
Go chill, have sex, eat nice food and drink nice wine.

LovePoppy · 17/10/2022 22:19

Dibbydoos · 17/10/2022 20:16

Yes you are being unreasonable! Gran Canaria is a lively holiday spot and you'll get your UV quota so you won't get SAD.

Put some holiday songs on, get your suitcase out and get packing!!!

I dont think thats how SAD works.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 17/10/2022 22:46

Canaries is more like 23 degrees with breeze in November. Maybe he wants to go and you could go for him?
