What does a fat person wear for yoga and gym classes

I need to lose around 3 stone 😫used to be a gym bunny back in the day, with a great figure and wide range of workout clothes.
I want to get back to yoga etc, but how can I wear leggings? 🤷🏻‍♀️That’s all I see people wearing to do it. They won’t suit me, without a long t shirt over, which will probably look ridiculous and I don’t see others wearing. What do I wear? Can u wear jogging pants for yoga? I don’t see others wearing them. Really want to get fitter and lose this weight , but embarrassed of my body, don’t want to give up because of it, before I’ve even begun/began?

Yoga pants with a fold down waist and a long T shirt?

If I were you and I felt more comfortable with shorts I would wear them with a tight long vest top and a baggy t-shirt over it so if the t-shirt lifts I'd be covered.

@SheWoreYellow I like that, would you wear leggings with that? Does it cover the tum and bum a bit?

For yoga I really like the stuff from BAM. It's made of bamboo fibre. I have some yoga pants from them which are looser like jogging pants, but in a thinner t-shirt-like material, with soft ankle cuffs. I also have a couple of their longer tops. They are loose-ish but slightly ruched/gathered at the sides so that they are not tight on your curves, but aren't loose enough to flop down towards your head, revealing your stomach when you're in downward-facing dog pose! Perfect for yoga and super comfortable. I sound like an advert, but they are honestly great!

Not to be nasty, @Whowouldgoallthatwayforarobbieconcert, but your biggest barrier here seems to be yourself

There's plenty of people of different sizes at my gym. Leggings and a top are absolutely fine.
No one will give you a second glance (unless you wear those awful cycling shorts which go up your bum crack and leave nothing the the imagination and look dreadful on everyone...)

Look on Gymshark. They have all different types of models showing off their bits. Some larger some smaller.

Wear whatever you like. You're at the gym to be happy and healthy, not judged.

@Rogue1001MNer My biggest barrier is honestly my stomach 😫it’s big at the top, hate it. Not too fussed about bum etc, but v uncomfortable in so many clothes because of it

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor Love those pants, look so comfy and could wear normal t shirt with them like the model. Isn’t what I see the others wearing and see them all in standard, tight leggings and tight vest tops, but hey ho

I have several tops from curvissa:
Some adidas, some kangaroos and some Venice beach. They seem to be short of some of the black ones I have though. I wear black as sweat doesn't show up so much on that colour and I am a sweaty person

Wear what feels comfortable, but as a fat person I think sports leggings are essential - they are like a bra for legs and tummy, exercising without them my fat would be flopping around painfully. I wear high waisted leggings and a sports bra or t-shirt.

I'm a size 24 with a very long back and I feel your problem!!!

I wear proper gym leggings and a gym crop top and then cover the lot in a swing vest dress. So it looks like a loose strapped vest

Something like these: they are in between leggings and joggers - thinner fabric than joggers but loose where it counts. You will probably find joggers a bit warm as they are better for exercise outdoors in the cold or warming up.

People go to yoga a whole bunch fatter than you. Just look up clothes in your size and pick something you like.

If the words of your granny - no one is looking at you.

Get over yourself

I wear kick flare leggings / trousers as they don’t cling and a baggy t shirt.

Really not the case that people only wear leggings and tight vest tops, it may be that you are only noticing those on people because it’s something you would be worried at mo about wearing. Plenty of others wearing loose and longer tops and T-shirt’s - the double up tops may be worth a try or for yoga I tend to go with a vest under a looser top. Other exercise loose vests and tops, I tend to buy 1-2 sizes bigger

I wear a long vest top from Next that doesn't ride up and then a top similar to his one over it.

Have a look at Next and search 'Yoga' - lots of options on there for tops and bottoms.

don't worry about what other people are wearing.

I wear a pair of very light cotton trousers with an elasticated waist. cos they won't fall down or expose some part of my bum or tum when in downward dog or plank. But they are loose enough not to show all the bulges.

I also have a double layer t shirt like the one linked above. I tuck the bottom layer in so I don't flash saggy tum. The top layer, not being tight, again I can hope it doesn't highlight bulges.

why do you keep saying ‘that isn’t what other people wear?’ As if there’s a uniform for yoga or a gym class? Just wear what you’re comfortable in, the reason they might not be wearing the same as you could be for a multitude of reasons but none of them are your business really. No one cares what you wear at the gym 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm fat and do yoga and gym classes. For gym I wear plain black lycra leggings with a fitted sports tee and then a long racer back vest over the top. For yoga, same on top but cuffed drawstring sweatpants or yoga pants.

The fitted tee means I show no belly when doing mat work and the long vest means I'm not showing my belly or bum while working out.

Honestly nobody will be looking at what you're wearing or judging you for your size. You really don't want to wear anything too baggy for yoga though, I did once and in downward dog my top fell up over my face and exposed my tummy I'm sure nobody cared but I was so conscious of my post baby skin on my tummy I just couldn't relax so I think you need a top you can at least tuck in.

Well done for getting back to the gym though. I've been there, it's hard but you'll feel so good for it!!
