What does a fat person wear for yoga and gym classes

I need to lose around 3 stone 😫used to be a gym bunny back in the day, with a great figure and wide range of workout clothes.
I want to get back to yoga etc, but how can I wear leggings? 🤷🏻‍♀️That’s all I see people wearing to do it. They won’t suit me, without a long t shirt over, which will probably look ridiculous and I don’t see others wearing. What do I wear? Can u wear jogging pants for yoga? I don’t see others wearing them. Really want to get fitter and lose this weight , but embarrassed of my body, don’t want to give up because of it, before I’ve even begun/began?

Don't wear anything loose for yoga, it's miserable with stuff flapping around. Shirts will end up around your neck etc. Tight vest is good if you can't do crop tops. Take a baggy shirt with you and take it off when you start put it in when you finish if you are nervous. Trust me nobody will care what size you are or even be looking!

Real talk. Get a really good sports bra, when you go in downward dog and your left breast makes a leap for freedom it can really throw your ujjay breath off!
I'm flat chested and I still have my moments so if you're carrying any weight on your chest then support is realllyy important. I won't suggest any specific product here as I'm pancake chested.

I, like you, went from converse to trainers so was used to a very thin sole with more feedback grom the ground. I now wear adidas adizero adios 5, they don't have super thick soles but fit really great, they are the most comfortable shoes I own by a long long way. It's worth mentioning I also run and do very long distance walking (30+ miles this weekend) and I don't have any other trainers that could keep up. They are my favourites.

If you want to practice at home as well. A yoga mat is all you need. I follow some online videos, I do one every day without fail. If you make it part of your routine it can be such a stress reliever too. On youtube, i like sarahbeth yoga routines. She does all levels and 10, 20, and 30 minute sessions. I'm not suggesting you replace the gym class, just that if you wanted to do some at home as well these are great. My balance has improved so so much since following her videos.

You can do it op. I lost 12kg and am gym fit now. I didn't even know my body could look like this! It was hard work but the key is consistency. Just keeping going back to your yoga matt every day. Even the days you dont want to, make it part of your routine. Something you do for yourself every single day.

Wear what everyone wears to the gym, just in your size! Nice compression leggings might make you feel more confident and wear a black flattering t shirt, baggy if you like.

I know it sounds silly but I always feel more confident at the gym if I do a nice workout hairstyle and a little bit of makeup

I was wearing leggings and t-shirt when doing yoga at size 22. I'm still wearing leggings and t-shirt when doing yoga at size 16. I suspect if I lose any more weight, I'll still be wearing leggings and t-shirt to do yoga.

People mostly won't be looking. They'll be too busy concentrating on what the teacher is doing and what they're doing. They'll be thinking, omg, my balance is totally shot today, there's no way i can do that on one leg. They will not be thinking about what the person on the next mat is wearing.

Thanks all, I have black, tight vest tops, so I’m thinking one of these under a looser, slightly longer top could maybe work with leggings 🤔

Now, trainers..! I’m used to my converse and jeans, but this is obviously different, I remember loving some Nike black ish trainers some years ago that would be perfect, but can’t seem to find online the exact ones I liked. Anyone know what these are?

Also, what bag do you use?

I have a pair of Asics trainers, I have broad feet so they fit well and are comfy and supportive. There's an outlet near me where I get them over half price off which is great because they are dear otherwise. I don't generally bring a bag to yoga/pilates as I go straight home after and get washed and changed there. But I bring my mat with a little carry strap and a bottle of water. If I was bringing a block or blanket or cushion if its a meditative class then I'd probably just bring a rucksack or whatever bag I have lying around the house. I generally do yoga at home in bare feet because it's much easier but I did get some grippy trainer socks in next that I quite like although I still find I slide a bit in them. Honestly op, see once you go a few times you will see that noone will give it a second thought what you bring/ wear and everyone in the class/ gym will be doing something different. I don't know if it would make a difference to you but I know in my hometown there's some women's only gyms... might be worth looking into if you'd feel more confident in that type of environment- I don't know how common they are though, I go to a mixed gym myself.

Leggings and a sloppy vest top. I'm a gym beast. I don't notice anyone else at the gym. I'm too busy working out. You can do it 💪

Sweaty Betty power leggings are thick and stretchy enough to really hold you in and are (I think) way more flattering than thinner jersey which clings to any lumps and bumps. For yoga I wear power leggings with a BAM flow top, and for Body Pump/Zumba, I wear a sturdy sports bra with a loose racer back vest from Gap over the top.

Yoga/Body Balance is done in bare feet so you won't need actual trainers for the workout, just getting there. Maybe have a nice pedicure!

In all seriousness, it comes down to what makes you feel confident, not what other people think because they honestly won't notice.

I'm 3 stone overweight and I was never a gym bunny but I wear leggings and a slightly loose top or vest. Just got some brightly patterned ones. I don't think anyone looks.
In Pilates class a few people wear those wider leg yoga pants or jogger pants.
these or

There’s lots of women in my yoga class that are overweight. Most wear leggings and a longer tshirt. Personally I like wearing leggings, a vest top with a looser tshirt over the top.

I'm wearing jogging bottoms and a giant football-style top to the gym at the moment. Everyone else I see is in proper sportswear or lycra type leggings but I don't care about anyone else. These clothes are the only ones that fit me and at least I'm showing up to exercise. Wear whatever you are comfortable in and join the yoga, it doesn't matter about anyone else.

Size 18 here.

these tops are flattering, buy in your usual size, they're not baggy but they fit loose so don't cling.

I wear a very tight fitting long line vest under the t shirt here I wear a size 12, covers my bum, stays put when inverted.

My Amazon high waisted leggings are better than my sweaty betty ones and less than a quarter of the price. Mine are no longer availalbe but look for ones which go a couple of inches above belly button in a "knit' rather than shiny fabric. I prefer ones with a marbled/camo print. They stay up and the waistband doesn't roll.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in as long as you can freely move in it.

Most people won't even notice what you're wearing. If someone judges you for what you're wearing, it speaks volume about them as a person and doesn't reflect on you.

I do yoga type classes and I wear anything from shorts and a sports bra, to baggy jogging bottoms with a t shirt. I'm not overweight, but I do have a saggy mum tum. My sagginess is on my lower tummy, so I prefer high waisted as I can keep my tummy tucked in.

I'm a 14/16.

I wear leggings (floppier bottoms can get in the way a bit).

But there is no chance I would wear any kind of crop top!

I tend to wear longline gym t-shirts, so they stay in place but they are not ultra revealing. Have had mine a couple of years so won't still be on websites.

Black hides a multitude of sins.

I get gym tops from HM and ASOS. ASOS do a curve range and can always size up if you want it looser on tummy. For leggings get high waisted ones with a thick waist band but you’d also be fine in cycling or gym shorts regardless of size. I also wear HM cycling shorts and gym shorts. Some of their gym shorts have a draw string which is great in stopping them sliding down but also helpful if you need to tuck your top in without it falling back out.

If, once you are back in the swing of things at the gym it turns out that you actually feel a bit dam righteous there are some fine high waist leggings and tops if you scroll down this page a bit www.zaiaharts.com/shop?page=3
You can always wear a loose swingy vest over the top for a bit

What's wrong with leggings and a cotton men's/boxy loose fitting t-shirt? Wide leg or elasticated ankle cuff jersey pants are great for yoga too. I weightlift and wear a tshirt and leggings. Sometimes I wear a vest top underneath a loose, off the shoulder type gym top so I can have the bar in contact with my shoulders

You need to chill on the self hatred - you're not worth less or ugly because you're a different weight now. That's life! Exercise and yoga brings great benefits for your mind and body, focus on adding it as part of your life for those reasons. Read up on body neutrality, you will get nowhere losing weight if something as simple as what to wear to a yoga class is making you spiral! I say this kindly, as someone who has yoyod in weight - from diets, pregnancies and medication. You can't let it affect how you feel about yourself.

Also, do try weightlifting!! Especially if you are a former gym bunny. Cardio is hell and you get really visible, motivating results with lifting and you feel so strong! Nothing crazy, just kettle bells or squats, arm stuff with dumbbells.

I'm much bigger than you. I wear black leggings.

Top wise is more difficult as you need something that ideally doesn't move during inversions e.g downward dog.

I've been looking for something like this (with a bottom band to hold baggy top in place). At the moment I just wear a long t-shirt from decathlon of all places.

bambooclothing.co.uk/shop/short-sleeve-bamboo-flow-top-sage/

I have a nice running top from lululemon that I like for the gym but it's not good for pilates at all. And I have a couple of racerback vests (again lululemon) that I wear for spin (it's dark!) but wouldn't wear at the moment in the well lit pilates studio. They are quite fitted so stay in place during inversions but I'm embarrassed by my flabby arms. Maybe when they tone up they'll make an appearance!

High waisted Leggings, vest (tight one if that's the first thing I grab from the drawer) and sports bra underneath. Between the high waist and the low band, there's precious little to expose if the top rides up. Same as what I wear I'm the gym or running, really. Sometimes capris, often ridiculous colours, but they move with me, which is the most important thing.

In a yoga class, the thing others are most likely to see most of is your arse, anyway.

Can anyone post any ideas of clothes to wear (from websites etc) all I’ve seen in the pictures in the online classes is tight leggings and tight vest tops…on all sizes, which is great as they actually all look good…I just don’t!

Just wear yoga pants and top, honestly no one cares, I know you will feel self conscious, but only for the first few sessions..... good luck OP!

I would look at the Sweaty Betty Gary joggers because I find yoga really awkward if I have trousers flapping around my ankles. I don’t wear fitted vest tops (or any vest top, really) because I don’t feel confident enough, but in a pair of trousers like that you could easily tuck in a light, loose shirt.

Honestly nobody will be looking at what you're wearing or judging you for your size. You really don't want to wear anything too baggy for yoga though, I did once and in downward dog my top fell up over my face and exposed my tummy I'm sure nobody cared but I was so conscious of my post baby skin on my tummy I just couldn't relax so I think you need a top you can at least tuck in.

Well done for getting back to the gym though. I've been there, it's hard but you'll feel so good for it!!

I'm fat and do yoga and gym classes. For gym I wear plain black lycra leggings with a fitted sports tee and then a long racer back vest over the top. For yoga, same on top but cuffed drawstring sweatpants or yoga pants.

The fitted tee means I show no belly when doing mat work and the long vest means I'm not showing my belly or bum while working out.
