To have noticed there are a lot of threads/ comments deleted on MN

Haven’t been on mumsnet long, but have noticed lots of threads being deleted and comments too. Also seems to be some people who seem to enjoy reporting comments (some of which I don’t understand why they were offensive). Someone reported a comment about twerking on one of the threads 😂

Just seems a bit odd to me, feels a bit like censorship although I know there probably are valid reasons for deletion of threads at times. I do think sometimes conversations about difficult and controversial topics do need to be had. Although can understand legal implications of people being named ect…

not kissing…missing. Definitely would not be kissing ‘it’ 😂😂😂

haha so did I a while back I wondered why my comment was deleted when the person I called a troll posted something so mean and nasty and their post remained ! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I delete personal attacks and suspected troll threads.

TBH I think it’s a mix as to whether MN are right or not to delete threads.

E.g. there’s a reason why troll threads should go, I’m in two minds about troll hunting though. When mn was fairly new, the most vile and destructive trolls were outed on the boards, often after they’d been reported to mn hq on several occasions. And while “I put an AirTag on a tumble drier to see where it went” is a somewhat amusing troll thread threads where people have e.g. made up the death or illness of a child or are making up serious abuse etc are emotionally very damaging so need reporting and where possible removing.

sometimes deletions are OTT though. E.g. all the threads on the Lucy Letby trial are being deleted, despite the fact the trial is public and being reported on in the media. Delete speculation by all means, but babies were murdered, and it’s every parent’s nightmare, and people will rightly want to talk about what is being widely reported in the press.

The twerking comment wasn't deleted OP, it's because someone commented 'yuck' underneath, that comment was reported.

In this case I don’t know why just individual comments aren’t deleted. To delete the whole thread feels like censorship, and these sorts of things are in the news anyway, and it’s only natural to want to discuss them (as long as it’s discussed respectfully) … there was a thread deleted recently about certain men being protected like JS. Also an important topic that we should be talking about I feel.

MNHQ will stand a certain number of individual posts being deleted but if the thread is becoming 'like a Swiss cheese' i.e. full of holes, they usually pull the whole thing. It is quite tedious reading a thread where half the posts have gone because you don't know what the remaining posts are replying to.

I really wouldn't call it a "falling out". Not much happened and I'd forgotten about it until I saw that...recollection. The event did not go as described, but it was still a non-event in total.

The thread in question was full of extremely abusive posts (from other people) that got deleted. Various posters and women in general were called cunts, sluts, bints, whores, vultures and more. That's more what sticks in my mind from it. Nice people.

I'm very sure I saw it. For the record, although I reported quite a few posts on that thread, none of them were yours.

MN doesn't want to get sued for libel. People were dropping initials and enough 'hints' that it was as if certain names were written large with arrows pointing to them.
If there is proof or enough circumstantial evidence then people need to go to the police. If you think the police are corrupt go to your MP or an investigative journalist. You can't just badmouth people on the internet based on rumours.

MN have gone silly lately with the delete button. I hate the "we've taken thread down while we look behind the scenes..." the thread never reappears!
Every remotely interesting thread I bother watching or commenting on seems to get pulled. I'm starting to wonder if I'm cursing threads by simply being invested in them!?!

The interesting ones never reappear because they are trolls most of the time. That storytelling is why they're interesting.

And yet that "house prices aren't too high and everything is fabulous" thread is still up, despite OP being on an obvious wind up and the thread doing very little except causing a lot of upset. Even sincere threads can get zapped when they go that way.
