To have noticed there are a lot of threads/ comments deleted on MN

Haven’t been on mumsnet long, but have noticed lots of threads being deleted and comments too. Also seems to be some people who seem to enjoy reporting comments (some of which I don’t understand why they were offensive). Someone reported a comment about twerking on one of the threads 😂

Just seems a bit odd to me, feels a bit like censorship although I know there probably are valid reasons for deletion of threads at times. I do think sometimes conversations about difficult and controversial topics do need to be had. Although can understand legal implications of people being named ect…

I think there will always be people who report anything. It’s the mods job to decide what stays and goes

A poster told me ‘why does my opinion annoy you’ so I replied ‘it doesn’t I just disagree, why, are you getting annoyed?’ and they came back with ‘I will not put up with personal attacks. How dare you ask if I am annoyed’

I got my nth deletion for the same yesterday.
I stand by it.
@Chloefairydust probably 75% of threads are fake. You get used to spotting them.

Moderation keeps MN a generally nice place to visit.
if it were full of advertisers, personal attacks, trolls, blatant racism / disabilism it wouldn't be.

(NB I said blatant because I know views differ on whether some things are allowed to stand when they shouldn't be when an 'ism' may be occurring but it isn't obvious.)

Yeah it is getting annoying! I reported few lately because it is the same troll, easily spotted.
I thought there was a way to block people properly to make it difficult for them to return

It sounded like a very biased and inaccurate description of an exchange I saw the other day. If it's that one, it didn't happen. If it's not, maybe it did.

At any rate, if there is no personal attack in a post, it's unlikely to be deleted. Although I've seen a few posts that I thought were entirely appropriate get zapped (not mine - my deletions are usually for troll hunting, which I know we shouldn't do, but sometimes it annoys me when a crap troll thinks they're a good one).

There are a lot of people on here that report posts just because they don't like what's been said.

Why people don't just scroll on, I'll never know.

Mumsnet Unnecessarily deletes a lot of threads on here
there was a lady the other day Who mentioned that she had no money to buy clothes and shoes and because people were offering her clothes and shoes to which OP was declining Mumsnet deleted The thread to “check behind the scenes “when I checked with her a couple of days later mumsnet had not messaged her at all and deleted all of the supportive messages that she received detailing places where she could go and get help

Wild as in its really ok not be wild or (in other words) mild. There’s no obligation for anything I post to anything more than mild.

I have no clue if it’s what you saw or not. How would I know what you saw on MN the other day?

You don’t like my story about how some people like to report the smallest things or claim a personal attack when it’s clearly not. It’s ok to not like it. Not sure why you are making such a big deal of it!

i pointed out that MN didn’t delete it. Because it wasn’t a personal attack

I report the ableist ones. Particularly ones where any bad behaviour is put down to autism. It’s a regular occurrence.

but I don’t report everything. Sometimes the comments are so awful that I think it’s important they are left as evidence of the prejudice we face (especially when it’s vehemently denied by some posters)

I also hate bullies so if I think someone is bullying or being unnecessarily cruel I report too.

There is SO much censorship on this site. Most of it is fairly arbitrary. And all the most interesting threads always get deleted.

Okay I need to learn some of these rules lol so far I have learnt that you can’t call someone a troll and you can’t tell someone to get to fuck or call them a tit, however I can say they are behaving like a tit? and I can’t mention other threads in a thread?

Any other rules I should be aware of? 😁

I know right, every time I find an interesting one I come back later to check on it, and poof it’s gone 😮

Yeah I am pretty sure it’s odd behaviour to pretend I made it out to be a big event. Especially, when you aren’t sure if you even saw it.

You can mention them in passing - 'oh, there was a thread the other day where someone said that' type of reference - but you can't start analysing and discussing other threads in depth, whether deleted or not.
