To fucking cry over toast?

I've had a god awful busy long day. Started with a medical appointment, just got in now after a truly shitty shift at work.

Came home to find that I can't get in my kitchen because my dad's been and started a job I asked him to do. There's just stuff all over and short of moving it all, no change of cooking anything.

Made myself some toast with the last of the bread* and some lemon curd. Just dropped the fucking lot on the floor when I tripped over the dog.

And the fact that my neighbour is playing fucking bastard depressing classic FM 24/7 atm isn't helping my mood any either!

(*Until the morning, when the grocery delivery comes!)

I've give in and ordered pizza!

Ugh, we've all been there! I know exactly how you feel. In fact this was me yesterday. I actually shed a tear after the final thing pushed me over the edge. I got beeped by a wanker at a roundabout and that set me off into a spiral of doom, for some reason.

Tomorrow is a new day!

(And pizza solves most things)

“Throwing a paddy”?

FFS.

Speakingofdinosaurs · 11/10/2022 19:58

Put on a favourite film, have a nice cup of tea or a glass of wine, enjoy your pizza and look forward to having that necessary ‘job’ completed by your Dad!

“Throwing a paddy”?

FFS.

What's wrong with that?

buggeredmyleg · 11/10/2022 20:00

Throwing a paddy!? Really?

Absolutely unacceptable.

AFS1 · 11/10/2022 20:00

Not unreasonable to shed a tear over lost toast. Enjoy your very deserved pizza and try and get an early night. Fingers crossed things feel better tomorrow

Ginger1982 · 11/10/2022 20:01

@tillytoodles1 it's seen as offensive towards the Irish.

buggeredmyleg · 11/10/2022 20:01

X post with @DownAtTheBodyShop

It is a racist term - based on the ignorant drunk Paddy (aka Irish person) who flies off the handle.

buggeredmyleg · 11/10/2022 20:01

And @Ginger1982 who posted as I was typing

tillytoodles1 · 11/10/2022 19:59

What's wrong with that?

It's a derogatory term for an Irishman.

rosyvalentine · 11/10/2022 20:03

Here's an explanation.

To fucking cry over toast?
LilyMumsnet · 11/10/2022 20:04

Hi all

We have edited that line out of the opening post. Whilst we don't believe it was said with any bad intentions, we can understand why people find it offensive.

OP, we really hope you feel better soon.

Lots of love. Flowers

buggeredmyleg · 11/10/2022 20:04

Thank you @LilyMumsnet

GeorgiePorge · 11/10/2022 20:08

I've never clocked the origins of that phrase before and whilst it isn't a saying I use myself It never would have registered as offensive ... thats my something new learned for the day!

achangeisafoot · 11/10/2022 20:08

Ah OP that is seriously shit, I get it. Hope tomorrow is a better day

And honestly, thanks to the other posters - I had no idea that's what the term meant so I've learnt something useful

Vulpine · 11/10/2022 20:10

Pick the toast up and eat it? Or eat something else?

jetadore · 11/10/2022 20:12

Whoa, whoa, whoa now. You said some toast, can you please clarify exactly how many slices and whether you believe this constitutes a round?

NellBeau · 11/10/2022 20:14

No. It's not ok to use a racist phrase.

I'm astounded that this even needs said.

Well I've learned something new today, I nev er connected the word with offense towards the Irish.

Daisywithastory · 11/10/2022 20:32

OP hope you’re tucking into the best pizza!

I am Irish and very aware of language and history and had NO IDEA this phrase was related to Irish people, let alone that it was offensive. Tbh, I think I’ve only ever heard my English boyfriend say it - usually about our twin babies - so better warn him!

Same I had to google urban dictionary

rosyvalentine · 11/10/2022 22:44

I'm sure no offence was intended. Hope you have a better day tomorrow OP 💐
