My 3 year old bit into a conker

He definitely didn’t swallow any, he spat it out straight away, I’ve checked and there’s no bits missing. So nothing was ingested.

Is this an A&E job? This child is going to give me premature grey hairs!

no

Wantalolly · 11/10/2022 16:26

You what?

Strawberrymint · 11/10/2022 16:29

I thought they were poisonous. I remember hearing that in the past.

OP posts:
FizzyFucker · 11/10/2022 16:31

A very quick Google tells me they are mildly toxic and may cause stomach upset if many are eaten so you can stand down.

Skinnermarink · 11/10/2022 16:31

A&E job?

No, it’s a go home and make a cup of tea and laugh it off job.

Strawberrymint · 11/10/2022 17:02

Thanks maybe I’m just getting unnecessarily worried.

My son once picked up a conker and a worm. I said put it down now, it needs to go home. He gently put the conker under a tree and popped the worm in his mouth .

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 11/10/2022 17:16

You said yourself nothing was ingested so why would you spend hours in a&e for that? He'll be fine

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 11/10/2022 17:17

They taste a bit bitter. I don’t suppose he’ll do it again.

CustardySergeant · 11/10/2022 17:19

You said
"He definitely didn’t swallow any, he spat it out straight away, I’ve checked and there’s no bits missing. So nothing was ingested"

so why on earth would A&E be necessary? You're making no sense.

CustardySergeant · 11/10/2022 17:19

I'm baffled that some people have voted that YANBU!

UnderCoverFieldAgent · 11/10/2022 17:22

That title made me laugh 😂 If it makes you feel any better, I once came down to a remote with only one battery in it and DS was waving said remote around happily. He was too young to say whether he’d eaten the other battery or not so I spent 30 mins searching everywhere before finding the battery tucked behind a cushion. Dr Google informed me that he should be fine if he only licked it and 15 years later he’s still going strong 💪 🤷‍♀️

Sprogonthetyne · 11/10/2022 17:25

When you were a child, did you maybe have a habit of eating things you could and your parents went overboard trying to convince you not to?

Think it through, if conkers were so toxic that a tiny amount been in contact with the lips but not eaten could cause harm, would they be allowed to grow everywhere? Would children be encouraged to collect and play with them?

Herejustforthisone · 11/10/2022 17:33

I’m pretty sure my toddler are dog poo and an acorn the other day. He seems fine.

Herejustforthisone · 11/10/2022 17:33

Ate*

Strawberrymint · 11/10/2022 17:41

I just read a scary article which says it can cause paralysis. Hopefully that’s if it’s actually swallowed/eaten.

OP posts:
Talkingtocamels · 11/10/2022 17:42

Definitely not. I’d turn you away at the door….but as I’m a senior dr you’d probably wait 4 hours to be seen by a junior who would come and ask me….and then you’d get sent away.

Comedycook · 11/10/2022 17:46

I don't think it's a silly question op...it's the sort of thing I'd worry about too!

Royalbloo · 11/10/2022 17:48

Mine snorted Olbas oil. Which is toxic.

I'd urge any parent to lock it away.

🤣🥰

ODPintheNHS · 11/10/2022 17:49

@Talkingtocamels

I love you 🤣 So true (I do bank ED at the front door so I know you are right! 😁)

OP, if he didn’t ingest any of it, he will be fine!

Lbnc2021 · 11/10/2022 17:49

If toddlers were paralysed because they bit into a conker and spat it out the country would have thousands of paralysed toddlers 🤨

PinkButtercups · 11/10/2022 17:50

Some people are actually so rude.

Clearly the OP is worried and hence why she asked here first. Just keep an eye out for stomach upset and if you notice your DS seems off.

Don't let idiots on here make you feel silly for asking a question.

Pixiedust1234 · 11/10/2022 18:00

As soon as I saw your title I burst out laughing. Welcome to the wonderful but strange world of parenthood. If they were truly poisonous schools wouldn't have them growing within the school grounds for a start and since he didn't ingestany you are fine.

However you should be thinking of calling 111, not A&E, as your first port of call.

FFS no wonder our emergency rooms are filled to the brim!
