AIBU?

To think I shouldn't eat the randomly delivered McDonalds

A Deliveroo driver dropped off a McDonalds takeaway on my front doorstep and vanished before I knew a thing about it. It's not mine. I've knocked next door in case it was theirs and rang both phone numbers on the receipt without answer. Someone else paid for it and I feel conflicted about digging in. AIBU?

I think I might regret eating all that meat 🙁

Obviously you call deliveroo to tell them. It’s happened to me before where they included extra stuff in my order and i told them and they let me keep it

I'd eat and claim no knowledge

Lol. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a thread about a random takeaway showing up at someone’s door…

The op says she's tried the numbers on the receipt. No answer.

Would you really eat something that's just been left on your doorstep?

Wouldn't eat McDonalds anyway so maybe I'm not looking at this the way others might but just can't imagine eating something that appears on my doorstep.

You and I have very different standards.
I'd feel like Christmas if this happened! It won't, because we can't get Deliveroo here.

That’s not the same as deliveroo.

@RIPQueen I don't understand that comment

You're saying the receipt numbers weren't Deliveroo numbers? So you expect OP
to go searching for Deliveroo numbers? Really?

I'd eat it. My neighbour found a McDonald's I'd ordered - it was covered in cat piss. Would have rather someone ate it tbh.

Yes. The receipt number would be for the recipient or the restaurant.

i would do everything I could to let deliveroo and the restaurant know about this. What if the other person is charged and doesn’t receive the food? It’s stealing

@RIPQueen When it doesn’t turn up they will complain and get their money back. OP doesn’t need to make contact with anyone.

Am pretty sure Deliveroo is only online and app. I also went to their website to look for advice but nothing in FAQs and no phone number.

Oh give over! Do everything you could? GrinGrinGrin

If OP didn't eat it, would it still be stealing? Would they come back four hours later for it and say you "stole" it because you ate it, or if she hadn't eaten it, it would be ok?

If she left it on the doorstep, is she still obliged to do anything she could to reunite it with the intended recipient?

Choc shake, quarter pounder, triple cheeseburger, fries. Orderer dislikes pickles.

No pickles? They don’t deserve their order then tbh 😂

@HereComeTheGrannies that is a very valid point... heathens!

Ok - different standards here. I wouldn’t feel
comfortable eating it until I had spoken to someone 🤷🏻‍♀️

No. One google for “Deliveroo phone number” and there it is.

But you didn’t need to ring them and it would be pointless if you did.

You do realise that the original customer’s refund has absolutely no bearing on you, right?

@RIPQueen so what if OP just left it on her doorstep is that "stealing"?

Report
BatteryPoweredMammy · 06/10/2022 20:27

Yuck. I wouldn't even give it the dog.
I'd be pissed off about having to dispose of it though. 😤

You only don’t receive a refund if the delivery partner has put a block on your account because you’ve made too many complaints.

Yes I was worried about it @RIPQueen
That's why I tried what I could to sort it then asked wise Mumsnet for a verdict!

They'll get a refund, I've been given refunds twice when food hasn't turned up even though it was down as delivered
