How much do you spend on food per week?

I did a quick search and this isn’t been discussed since July I don’t think. There’s been lots of price hikes since then even. I spent 150 pound in Asda earlier and that’s for a family of 3, and I was buying all the cheap brands, no alcohol or treats, and limiting fresh fruit and veg. I did buy cleaning stuff, laundry power, etc. This seems so expensive to me. Am I being unreasonable and unrealistic in my expectation of how much it should cost to feed us in a week? Any advice on how I can further cut the bill would be appreciated.

£50 a week for one adult and one hollow legged teen boy. That includes cleaning materials, loo roll etc

JaceLancs · 01/12/2022 21:37

Average £70 a week for 2 adults but that does not include cat food or cleaning products and toiletries - as I tend to do a monthly shop at somewhere like home bargains or B and M for other stuff

pavillion1 · 01/12/2022 21:39

Family of 4 about 90-100 a week

Emmalou0607 · 01/12/2022 21:41

Food, between £50 - £70 for 2 adults a week. We shop in the local butcher and produce shop. We also are very active and eat a LOT! (This doesn't include things like cleaning products, loo roll etc, just food)

FelicityFlops · 01/12/2022 21:43

Can be anything from €6.82 to €198 depending on what I am buying.
I do really get nostalgic about the time where DM400 lasted a whole month and included meals out.

whirlyhead · 01/12/2022 21:46

2 of us and several fussy pets. About £200 a week mostly from sainsbury’s. That does include my partners martini habit.

Smartiepants79 · 01/12/2022 21:48

Shop mainly in Lidl. 4 of us.
About. £100.

Fairislefandango · 01/12/2022 21:49

About £130 family of four. I do my main shop in Aldi and buy a couple of extra bits from Booths next door. If I did my main weekly shop in any of the other supermarkets I'd be spending a lot more!

FiveMins · 01/12/2022 21:50

About £130 for 2 adults and 3 massive gannets aka teens.

QueenBeex · 01/12/2022 21:52

About £70 for 2 people a week.

PepsiMaxAholic · 01/12/2022 21:54

Varies between £100-£120 a week. This is for a family of 4 (sometimes 5 when DSS is here).

It has gone up significantly though. Used to get away with £80-90

IncessantNameChanger · 01/12/2022 21:54

About £80-90 per week for 6 but I don't get any cleaning stuff or anything I can buy in bulk in Costco. I think I spend about £230 every ten weeks in Costco. We don't get anything branded except rea, coffee and hot chocolate. Even the washing liquid is Costco own. As we bulk buy in Costco I can also have to occasional weeks where if needed I only need to spend £30 a week on essentials.

As we have 4 kids I only buy snacks as needed because the more I buy, the more they eat. 6 packs of chips will last three days but 12 would be gone in 2

@xogossipgirlxo

they both have their own pros but Gousto is our preferred because we just seem to enjoy the choice of recipes a little bit more.
We’ve had some really delicious meals that have been fun to make and that our toddler has really enjoyed… always a pleasant surprise 😂
I’ve got a link for 65% off of first box and 25% off of first two months (you can cancel
after first box if you just want one really cheap one) I’ll stick it below if anyone wants it.

How much would you say it works out per meal? And how many people does a recipe feed?

butterfliedtwo · 01/12/2022 22:05

Usually 25-30 a week including cleaning products and other household products for one adult. Meat is rare.

biscuitbadger · 01/12/2022 22:09

Family of 4, around £100-£120 per week, mainly Aldi, with Sburys for the bits they don't have.

lobsterkiller · 01/12/2022 22:14

I've been on strike, live on my own and last week I spent £17. I have stuff in the freezer and tins already. The £17 was on milk essentials.

coronafiona · 01/12/2022 22:15

£150 aldi family of 5.
£15 high school lunches
£15 ish primary lunches
£20-30 top ups, treats and gcse food tech requests.
Bloody loads Confused

Noonesperfect · 01/12/2022 22:15

Between Lidl & Tesco about £150 - £200 a week. Four of us 1 dog and cat

BHRK · 01/12/2022 22:16

£200-£250 a week, family of 5. Includes all cleaning stuff, two bottles of wine and a truck load of fresh fruit and veg. Haven’t needed to cut down but could (obviously)

MrsJBaptiste · 01/12/2022 22:22

We spend £120 per week (Asda) for 3 of us, the 4th is now at Uni.

Then probably another £40 for weekend snacks and booze and a takeaway every other weekend £40.

Shit... that's quite a lot when I see it written down 😬

StarManDan · 01/12/2022 22:24

xogossipgirlxo · 02/10/2022 23:40

Which one do you like better?

Another vote here for gousto, can't stand the smell of the chicken from hello fresh

Justthisonce12 · 01/12/2022 22:26

DS and I about £120 a week, we live well and probably buy food a family wouldn’t, he has steak a couple of times a week for example.

DollyDoofer · 01/12/2022 22:28

I usually spend around £40 for two of us, including treats for the GC.

Today I spent £85!!!! No treats, no alcohol, no “nice” foods, no nappies or other pricy toddler products. Just basics! Scary times 😣

SleepyAnkylosaurus · 01/12/2022 22:28

I spend £35 a week. For two adults and a hollow teen. Not including pet food and toiletries.

We eat a lot of waste food (Olio, community fridge, etc.), not much meat and no fussy eating.

BrightBlueFlamingo · 01/12/2022 22:28

Aldi, around £70 for everything, 2 adults and 1 cat.
