Needing help/advice.
Can anyone advise if this is rat/mouse poison that I have just found in my back garden.
Back garden is secure and I have a dog so scared in case dog has eaten some of it.
It is smooth to touch with like a waxy feel to it.

Is this rat/mouse poison i found in my garden?

Just seen your comment about blood in poo. Your dog needs to go to the vet for bloods ASAP

Scianel · 02/10/2022 15:09

Get your dog to the vet now. Rat poison can be couteracted with large doses of Vitamin K but obviously the sooner the better for treatment.

And now I'm going to get on my hobby-horse and beg people please not to use this stuff. There's a huge issue with secondary poisonings, particularly of owls and their chicks.
It's also bloody cruel to the rats. If using a rat baiting station it would be a lot kinder to just catch them and bash them over the head with a brick.

custardbear · 02/10/2022 15:12

I honestly think you need to seek emergency vet advice. Good luck and what hideous neighbours to do such a thing to DDog

Have to say that I agree even though that I had to once use it (way too big issue for just traps). Poisons should imho be only for when it's not manageable by other means.

But this waa deliberate most likely, not a secondary accidental poisoning

Lindy2 · 02/10/2022 15:17

Oh that's awful.

Please get your dog to the vets now. Hopefully if he's only eaten a tiny amount he'll be big enough to not be too effected by it.

I would also be notifying the Police.

Foronenightonly01 · 02/10/2022 15:17

Given your updates I hope you’ve gone to the vets. Really hope all ok.

Unforgettablefire · 02/10/2022 15:20

Agree with pp your dog needs to be taken to the vet asap.

QuitWhileAhead · 02/10/2022 15:20

Han DS are that a rat bought it into your garden and chances are your dog won't have eaten it.

QuitWhileAhead · 02/10/2022 15:21

Chances*

FortunesFavour · 02/10/2022 15:24

What a crappy thing to have happened. Hope doggo is ok.

Fitbachick · 02/10/2022 15:41

Oh hope your poor dog is going to be ok. Take a sample of the stuff with you. They may be able to analyse it. If you think someone has thrown it in can you get a camera to see if it happens again? Do you know someone who may have done this or suspect someone?

Unforgettablefire · 02/10/2022 16:16

Ihatethenewlook · 02/10/2022 15:05

That’s the exact kind of rat poison a neighbour used to deliberately poison my dog. I phoned an emergency vet who said I had a two hour window to get him in before it’s too late. It causes their insides to bleed. My dog had an injection to make him vomit and then liquid charcoal every day for a week. I was at the vets within 15 minutes of actually catching him eating it and he was fine

Was the neighbour prosecuted? I'd have wanted to rip him apart the piece of shit.

WonderingWanda · 02/10/2022 16:34

This is horrific that someone would do this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your dog is OK op x x

GrimDamnFanjo · 02/10/2022 16:42

What a disgusting thing for someone to do.

NaTTate · 02/10/2022 17:10

This is awful, what a terrible thing for someone to have done. I really hope your dog is ok OP. Do update when you have chance.

Stickytreacle · 02/10/2022 17:12

Definitely rat poison, this type of bait is supposed to be secured in a bait box, usually tied in with wire, if it isn't then the rats will carry it off to hoard it, which may be what is happening here, so it may not be anybody deliberately poisoning your dog.

Nope. Not enough evidence apparently, even though we got him on cctv putting the rat poison there again a week later. He’s also anti freezed at least 8 cats belonging to other neighbours, and killed at least 5. We were warned about him as soon as we moved in and the neighbours saw we had pets. He fucked with the wrong people when he did that to my dog though. I didn’t rip him apart piece by piece, I did ruin his life to the point he put his house up for sale and his wife divorced him though, so I’m counting it as a win 👍

Fitbachick · 02/10/2022 20:27

Just to update. Dog has been given medication so if he has eaten any of it this should counteract it vet says.
i only found the poison this afternoon so went to vets asap.
Police have been informed waiting for officer to contact me regarding this.

Why are you assuming that the bait has been put in the garden rather than brought their by a rat?

Can you post a picture of the bits of bait?

NaTTate · 02/10/2022 20:33

Good that you managed to get to the vet so quickly and really good to hear that the vet sounds positive about it. What an awful, worrying time you've had, I'd be so distraught if this happened to my dog. I hope your dog makes a very quick and full recovery.

Fitbachick · 02/10/2022 20:49

Garden is surrounded by other properties and has 6 foot high fencing all round it. So totally private.
The poison would appear to have been cut up into smaller pieces.
poison does not just appear in someones totally enclosed private garden. Especially more than one piece.

Is that a hole in the one on a picture or just a weird shadow?

LicoricePizza · 02/10/2022 20:54

Fingers crossed for your doggie 🤞 and well done for finding it!!

V concerning - unless a fox or animal carried it into your garden?

Are you urban or near anywhere that uses commercial bait boxes?

Relationship with neighbours??
